“This is the Day” was commissioned for the April 29, 2011 wedding of HRH Prince William of Wales and Catherine "Kate" Middleton by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey. This moving anthem by John Rutter (b. 1945) draws on words from five psalms and has become a meaningful addition to Sunday worship as well as one of the most requested choral works at weddings. It was commissioned by the Abbey as a wedding present for the Royal couple after they said they enjoyed other pieces by Mr. Rutter. Rutter was honored in the 2007 Queen’s New Year Honours List, being awarded a CBE for services to music, and he is probably the world’s favorite living choral composer. He is best known for his Christmas carols and the melodic and rich harmonic style he brings to all his creations.
