- This is the full audiobook for “The Wind in the Willows” that accompanied the Ladybird Children's Classics book of the same name.
It was recorded directly from cassette tape with basic equipment but I have re-mastered the audio in Adobe Audition.
I used to listen to these audiobooks as a child and some are selling on ebay for over £80.00….
So I am uploading the ones I have for posterity so that others might get a chance to hear them once again.

Ohhh thankyou! I was very ill as a child and couldnt sleep. I had constant undiagnosed kidney infections and later had to have it removed. Noone believed me when i said i was ill. I couldnt sleep and every night i would relax listening to this- i just loved the music and narration. When my parents divorced and we moved the tape was lost. I was totally devastated. Thank you so much for uploading- truly special to me- thank you xxx
I had this and listened to it until it became warped and the player chewed it up! Also had the Sorcerer's Apprentice. Gave me an appreciation for classical music - so an added bonus. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Thank you for posting this. You've done a great job with the audio quality and it gives me goosebumps to hear again after 30 years. I used to listen to this to fall asleep as a kid.

I had this cassette tape and book in the late 80's. A lot of my toys and books were from the 70's passed down to me but I see this tape says 1983 so maybe my Late Mother got for me when I was a baby. If I had known it was going for £80 on Ebay! I could do with shoes and I can't afford extra large shoes and since the day I was born my Mother said I had large feet which would be a problem! We had SO many retro toys that would be very collectable and worth money but not this! I just loved lying on the sofa with my eyes closed, listening to the river on my Walkman and feeling as if the water was all around me........This was the first time I had heard Beethoven and I found it gelled welled with the action in the story; just as when I heard it played to Disney's Fantasia.
I also had Noddy and LadyBird Puss 'n' Boots and when I hear that particular classical piece that is what I think of....."When you hear this noise.....it means turn the page......."
Thank you so much. I had this tape as a child (I still have two copies, but the sound is very distorted on them) and the book (I have many copies of now). This was played on many a car journey and I know the first chapter off by heart, I’ve heard it so much. So lovely to be able to listen again. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

A blast from the past this story tape, had a few of these tapes when I was younger.
I still have this cassette, and the Gullivers travels one. In fact finding the gullivers travel one just now made me look this up. must be 35 years ago?
Andy, Do you know if the audio cassette is still available to buy? I still have the book after nearly 35 years. My first grand-child is due shortly. I would dearly love to make her/him a present of the book and cassette.

The Wind in the Willows audio cassette is long out of print; it was produced in the 1980's by Pickwick International for Ladybird. The Pickwick audio cassette tapes for the Ladybird Classics series are very rare and it seems eBay is the only source. I have been collecting them for over 10 years; some I got for a few pounds, some for a lot lot more. Unfortunately, Wind in the Willows is a very rare one, I think I paid £40 for my copy. I have seen the eBay auction you mentioned, stupid price (£80), but I have to admit, it is about the third copy I've ever seen on eBay. The thing, you can guarantee the quality of the recording.

I managed to get this cassette from ebay for arround £15.00 I think. I'll be putting them back on ebay now that I have captured the audio.
