Founded in 1772 by Spanish Franciscan Junípero Serra, San Luis Obispo is one of California's oldest European-founded communities. Serra's original mission was named after the 13th-century saint and bishop Louis of Toulouse. The city, locally referred to as San Luis, SLO, or SLO Town (as its county is also referred to as SLO) is the county seat of San Luis Obispo County and is adjacent to California Polytechnic State University.

I was homeless 3 years ago in this city with children. We walked around that city all day as we waited for the hour that we where aloud to go back to the sheltor. We also spent alot of time in Morro Bay and Paso Robles for a time too. SLO county was my home for over 10 years... Seriously one of the safest places for the homeless I can think of. I grew up in LA the first part of my life and SLO is way more friendly to the unhoused and over seen pepole. Much Love. Thanks for sharing. ✌

My hometown! Lived there until I was 26 which has been about 10 years now. Been back a few times to visit but it’s changed too much. It got too big in my eyes. But will always love SLO. A lot of memories.

Moved to SLO 10 years ago and there is no where on the planet I'd rather live. If you're coming from anywhere but LA, Santa Barbara, Bay Area or Hawaii, it's damned expensive but with possible exception to Hawaii, I'd rather live here.

Venture A Highway it’s a great college town. I graduated from Cal Poly SLO in 1988 and the town and surrounding area was perfect. Great outdoor environment, clean air, cycling, hiking, beach, surfing, tide pools, small towns up and down the coast....

Don't listen to the LA haters. I lived there for 6.5 years. I know nothing about your age, income or outlook but I found LA to be one of the more interesting cities on the planet. It's just not what people think it is from seeing it on TV. LA is a HUGE, largely industrial, valley flanked by snow capped mountains to the east, rolling hills to the north/south and ocean to the west. It is one of the most extensive grid "circuit boards" you'll ever land in (and I've been to some of the largest cities in the world). Tourists hate LA because LA does not welcome them with open arms. It's not a forgiving place for those who lack grit. LAX is tremendously efficient but only for those who know how to manage it. It's a tough city to learn, understand, get around in and love -- that's precisely why I loved it. You HAVE to live there to get it. Once you start meeting the right people, LA will start revealing some of her secrets -- of which she has more than one lifetime can uncover.
LA is this very ugly chaotic quilt of concrete communities and strange strip malls all up against one another. LA has traffic problems, drug problems, homeless problems, crime problems, population density problems, you name it. It has so much light pollution that it never gets dark at night, the sky is always purple at night. The air in LA isn't great either but you'll live in a place of tempered character. People in LA know who they are. I learned more about myself in my 6+ years of LA than anywhere else. It was amazing. You will speak in freeways and streets. You'll understand all the hidden meanings in "Bojack Horseman." In a non-pandemic year, everything that means anything is coming to YOU. Every musician, every show, every major event. Little heavens, hells and 70+ year old institutions that (in a city thought to be so progressive) refuse to change for anyone.
If given the means, the best place in LA to live is by far Culver City. Reason: It is positioned perfectly and is the rare place where, even with traffic, you can get to the City, The Beach, LAX, South County and even Hollywood in under an hour. LAX and the Beach are 20 minutes tops. What little light rail transit LA has (and yes, there is a subway) hubs in Culver City. No one likes to hear it but if you want LA-lite move to OC. It's a slight more suburban, better planned LA (but you're going to spend more time bitching about LA than understanding how amazing it actually is). The Valley can be a decent choice but I say -- go for the snake pit.

I like seeing the difference in architecture and style around the country and around the North American continent. I have only personally seen a few spots like in the Caribbean and states that mostly border the Gulf of Mexico, but I seen clips from area’s in Utah and California and compare them to the regions I live at in the southern states and the building style is completely different from one another. Never been out west, but I would like to go see some of the buildings there. I never got to visit Mexico when I had the chance, but seen some photos brought back that showed the architecture of the Yucatan peninsula. I know that may sound retarded to find interesting, but I find it amazing how places that are relatively close to one another have completely different cultures and styles that they share between one another

I lived in Paso Robles from 1979 to 2018, working at the Paso Robles Daily Press, Telegram-Tribune, Atascadero News and ProForms. Now I'm stuck in Bremerton, WA, and I miss it like crazy. We used to go to SLO Town regularly to visit SLO Brew, DKs West Indies Bar, Bubblegum Alley, Linneas's Cafe, See Canyon, all kyna places like that-there. A couple-3 of those are gone now, but I wanna go back so bad...

Yeah, I remember this day. Oddly, I thought "maybe they're blocking the freeway again" because I saw the red on the 101 and heard all the horns. I think they came in from the central valley and hit a bunch of coastal towns. There are a lot of upstart-minded businesses in SLO that swing conservative but even if they're sympathetic to some of Trump's policies, I know very few who are that fanatical about him. In aggregate, those who actually reside in SLO are moderate to progressive. It might confuse some people who are pro-Trump if they came to visit based on this video. LOL

We may not have agreed with them but they had the right. Living literally just up the hill from this, we heard it, drove to the beach and by the time their convoy caught up with us, we headed home.

Trump rallies are welcome, at least they don't break windows cause destruction, scare tourist a way like the liberals do. The Democrats have created all the problems in SLO period, when our city was more conservative we never never no ever had the disgusting problems like today on what the liberals did to San Luis Obispo, the town is full of libs, try going back to 2004, 1998, 1992 or 1980 and see the town then and compare it, I did and it's not the same. The liberals ruined it completely forever

This must have been Saturday, October 31. I remember because we live very close to where the end of this video was. We heard all the horns and decided, "Okay, let's get out of town for a little bit. Only later did we realize it was this pro-Trump convoy probably originating in the Central Valley, hitting up all the more liberal/progressive coastal cities. Aside from clogging the freeway and being a small noisy nuisance, they did what they set out to do and moved further south -- to where we ended up funny enough. By that time we came home.
