Very early on in my dance life I had the luck of being told that there was a lot on the basics of any couple dance. Not only I was told but I could see how my masters would spend the whole social doing basics and having the best time. It seemed to me that the better they were the less they would do stuff and stick to the basics.
As someone whose eyes were still drawn to the bigger, sharper and intricate patterns I could not understand. I would ask the follows "how it could be that good?! He did nothing!🤯" and they would reply "Exactly!".
Then I could see how they would bend the basics to the music. Stop, start again, stop again, change direction, repeat the same leg going forward and back aaaaand, they would look at each other and smile.
Whenever they would do something out of the ordinary, they would just look at each other and smile. They were playing and having fun with the music and themselves.
All they need was there: the music, the basics and, most importantly, each other.
Inspired by those moments that I witnessed so many times, I share this video, filmed by one the biggest dance geeks I have ever known, Kuna Malik Hamad.
Valeska Fresquet Kohan and I dance to one of my favorite cabozouk songs of all time and just enjoy and share a moment togethter❤️.
Zouk can be so amazing and funny without complicated movements and head movements. I, personally, always love to dance Zouk foundations and try to play with them to the music. It doesn´t need too complicated. .;-) Love such beautiful videos!!!
