great knife smooth opening bought it few months ago even though spyderco junkies think its ok because its made in China and not in usa big deal still nice spyderco fault they subbed it out talk shit to them
Hey Fred, glad to see another knife review after a whole lot of light reviews. I like the review, but on the personal level, I definitely won't by a $40 knife with 8cr13mov and a liner lock. Unless it runs on ball bearings or has some special feature, and is not manufactured with a thin liner lock.
I've had my Tenacious for a couple of years, but I almost never carry it because it takes up too much room in the pocket. The Tenacious is an okay knife, but I would recommend using your money and getting a couple of Ganzos instead.
It took me a LONG time to buy my Tenacious too, I have been a knife collector for many years and I just got mine a couple of months ago. The cheapest place to get it is at Walmart.COM, of all places, Only for American though :( I don't like the Tenacious much, it's not super comfortable like Spyderco usually does. It's bigger brother the Resilience is much more comfortable in hand so I got that too. Sanrenmu makes Spyderco's Made In China knives, that explains why it is put together so well in China, they are a GREAT factory.
Ok Fred....time to put you on the spot. hehe Tenacious, Rat 1, or Utilitac 2? What's your preference? (There isn't a wrong answer...I just wanted to see which you prefer out of the 3). Thanks for the review. I have all 3 and all are great knives. :)
Tenacious, I prefer the Spydie hole, blade shape, flat grind over the others. Rat1 would be my second choice because the handle has awesome ergonomics and I like the blade shape and full flat grind too.
Any Chinese stainless steel (single-digit number, followed by CR, then double-digit number, then finally MOv) is "allegedly" the equivalent to US 420/440 HC stainless steel. I can tell you as a knife affecionado myself that it is not at all. It's close, for the most part. So what I do is use the Chinese garbage steel to beat up on at work. As far as the AUS steel (SOG uses it a lot and I love it), AUS blows away Chinese steel. Anyway great review as always wondering if you were gonna do a review on any of the new multi tools? I just ordered the Gerber "Center-Drive" which became available today, should have it Thursday.
btw, you did a headlamp review awhile back; the light was offset n removable to b used as a hand held or stand alone light. can you tell me the brand name & model as i cant find the video? thanks again
In 2020 China is sending a manned mission to Mars, i'm sure they can make a damned good knife. It's a very good knife , i have one , very well made. Think i paid $27 at Wally World.
heebs72gb to tell you the truth, not the greatest. i stab a piece of wood and came loose. i have to tighten ones but still loose. sharpness is nice, but my opinel no.8 still the best... no joke! But for $11 is good, not awesome. is not made for hard work.
lol, yes the tenacious likes to bite, thanks for the mention, bringing back memories :)
Been carrying this knife for quite sometime now and love it.
Man I really like mine! I had a bottom liner lock on a Benchmade Styker, it was very solid and well built like this one!
Get 2 Ganzo G729s for the same price. Probably made in the same factory. No liner lock either! If you want a liner lock, get the G730. : )
The first vid I ever uploaded to UA-cam was on the Tenacious. It's fantastic. It's still my favourite EDC blade. I'm surprised you didn't have one!

the Spyderco tenacious is the entry drug for Spydercos. I bought one and now have 17 difference Spydercos. so beware.
What an awesome comment, perfect!!!
surprised to see, thought you'd already done it, but good review

I agree. It's nice but way too big.

It's a good knife but a little hard to open in my opinion and I should have been more careful with my work sharp since I kinda rounded the tip a bit.
I live in Mississippi--I carried one or the Persistence for 3 weeks @ Scout camp. It rusted in that time.
Disappointed in the steel. No more 8Cr13MoV
good also for Food prep. ohhhh yeahhhh

Hi. I'm stuck on getting either a tenacious or an Avispa. Any thoughts?
Intended for edc and backpacking.
Will appreciate your kind suggestions.
Fred's the best!

Gear Obsession How long does Coolfire 4 tc100 coils last ?? Thanks ;)
whats the diffrence between spiderco knives? they all look the same.
Killer Rated M handle material , handle shape, length , width, locking mechanism and blade steel. But I agree they all look very similar.
heebs72gb cool, i guess im not that into knives as much as i thought. thanks for enlighting me
easy to clean

I just bought one of these. if you don't mind an homage , it has a very good for the price axis lock. /m.fasttech.com/p/amp/3971901
Got one and love it too. I'm a huge fan of Ganzo knifes and I have a couple of them coming up for review :)
i order a tenacious clone for 11$ on ali express. because is made in chiner "china" anyway.
