    You are very lucky to have come across the bird at around 2:50, it’s the Phainopepla, it’s a cool desert bird. I saw it in Joshua Tree National Park. Really love the blue colors on those juvenile Scrub Jays!!

      Yes I was super happy to get the Phainopepla! I realized during the trip that mid-July was a difficult time to go birding in a foreign place as juveniles are often hard to identify, even when you are used to them. For me, I'd never seen a scrub jay let alone a juvenile so I had to wait until getting home to ID that one!

    Good work! Love your videos! If you are staying till Dec/Jan in San Diego, La Jolla is must visit, saw ton of birds last time I visited that place! And also Santee lakes!

      Oh I wish I was down there in December but I was only there for 2 weeks in July. I only went birding for the last 3 days as I was working at / attending a conference. I passed on La Jolla as Google always said it was really busy and hard to find parking. I'd love to go back to California at a different time of year- the conference I was at is an annual event that is always in SD, so I also expect to return in July!
