    For our final floating duck decoy test, we put decoys from DOA, Avian X, Hard Core, Tanglefree, Higdon, Greenhead Gear, Dakota, and G&H behind a truck and drug them down a dirt/gravel road. Decoys get abused season after season by hitting each other, being dropped, and thrown in/out of a boat. Paint gets scratched, scuffed, and chipped. To test the durability of the paint job on our decoys, we put them through two miles of road abuse. Some did surprisingly well, while others were beat up badly!

    These videos were great! They give good insight for when you are buying new decoys.
    As for the next series I feel that testing full body geese would a very good way to go!

    I would like to see similar tests done with full body goose decoys. Obviously not a 90 day water test but I like the drag test. Just like throwing them in the trailer after every hunt

      Yeah water won't work, but set outside on ground for a length of time will. Is 90 days too long for geese?

      @20gagshntr 8 років тому +1

      In a torture test I really don't think there is a "too long" depending how extreme you want to get. I know guides that keep their decoys out all season long

    To me it looks like these are new decoys, not the same decoys that went through the first two tests (most importantly that first test). In my opinion a new decoy is going to fair a lot better in this test than a decoy that has been out in the elements. For instance, I have some GHG Pro Grade mallards. I don't bag them as they are all texas rigged. I just pick them up by a carabiner, throw a couple dozen in a sled and haul them out. I've only used them for 4-5 hunts this year and I'm already seeing paint chips and flaws especially on the drakes. The chips are very small, but they're still there. Not really something I'd expect from a higher end decoy. I'm thinking about Avian X the next time around.

      These decoys were new. We started every test with a fresh decoy. We could have used the same decoy through the entire series of tests, but elected to start fresh each time.

      Drake Valley Outdoors Ive hunted over GHG, G&H, Dakota, and Avians, and i am now in the process of switching my whole spread over to avians. I highly recommend them for paint durability, natural postures, and overall durability of the decoy.

      The Idaho Outdoorsman Yeah, I think they have such a better look than other decoys. The softer body seems like it would be a real benefit as well. I have not used any yet, but I need to be buying some new teal for next season, so those will probably be the first getting converted over to Avians.

      Drake Valley Outdoors the thing about this is that with the GHG you get better realism and kill more ducks so what if the paint chips a little

    I would like to see how the different brands stand up to being shot or peppered when cold.

      Foam filled or regular ones?

    • @thomascastillo2636

      Both honestly I shot up a hardcore this week (first decoy I've ever shot) and I didnt do much to it. watching this make me wonder how they respond to being shot after being frozen or exposed to the cold.

    Can you test movement in little wind. Include flambeau gunning decoys

    I use GHG myself, and have noticed that head and bill are the most exposed areas of wear, naturally. So - my wish for the producers of this decoys is that they offer theire original paint in paint-up sets for maintenance. All equipment used for hunting/sports needs maintenance :-)

    • @HuntFactory
      @HuntFactory  8 років тому

      Yes it does. Buy an airbrush and try to match the color yourself.

    Just an idea for your third test instead of dragging them on a dirt road put them in an industrial drier so we can see how bad the paint chips

    • @HuntFactory
      @HuntFactory  8 років тому

      We thought about that, but don't have access to an industrial drier.

    I would like to see a "Throw & Go" test on full body geese. Stack em high in the trailer, then set em up and tear back down throw and go style. Only thing is I know how that video will play out cause I live it haha. Good stuff and those avians are tough.

    • @HuntFactory
      @HuntFactory  8 років тому

      Like the idea, just don't know about the number of times to do it and the amount of time it would take. You'd almost need one of each and just hunt with them the entire year. Then see what they look like at the end of the season.

    • @sg255010
      @sg255010 8 років тому

      Yea, your right to many variables for that test. Maybe then what the other gent mentioned, a goose full body shootem up. See how they hold up to being peppered with 3.5 BB?
