The black and white theme is stunningly gorgeous. It really captures the beauty of the darkest moments of Marilyn Monroe’s life offscreen. The way everything was shot just feels like you’re not alienated. It seems as if we’re really upfront witnessing the rise and downfall of a Hollywood icon.
For someone who couldn't speak English when she first came to Hollywood and now able to do take on a fully method role, that's dedication and talent. INCERDIBLE love it keep it going Mrs. Armas
@@mgcuts She moved to the USA in 2014, when she was 26 years old, for the filming of the movie "Stone Hands". At the age of 27, she began to speak normally. Now she is 34 years old. No need to invent.
When I finished watching the movie, I was angry, confused and dissapointed. But the movie never escaped my mind and I started to think about what I saw and began to appreciate it a whole lot more. Now, it's understandable why this movie is so controversial, because it touches upon showing one of the most beloved actresses in the world in a very dark and unsettling way. You need to understand a couple of things before watching; - this is not a biopic about Marilyn Monroe, at least not in a traditional way (both Andrew Dominik and Joyce Carol Oates even said that this movie is a work of fiction mixed with some real events). It's an experimental art house movie with elements of psychological thriller and even horror. At times it reminded me on Mulholland Drive by David Lynch; like a descent into a horrible nightmare that you can't escape from. - the movie is not interested in Marilyn Monroe's public image. People still worship this perfect and glamorous image of MM, but tend to overlook how tragic her life really was. Abused by her mother and most of men in her life, in search of love and acceptance, being marked as "dumb blonde" and reduced to sexism and humilitaion by people she trust the most. Blonde is a movie about this part of her life that not a lot of people want to talk about because it doesn't go well with their perfect idea of a young beatiful women who went to Hollywood and make it big. - the movie is meant to be a giant slap in the face to the "golden age of Hollywood" in the 50s and 60s. Let's face it; this era of Hollywood is still shown in a very positive light (how many "love letters to Hollywood" we have on Oscars every year?), yet behind the closed doors horrible things happened; harassements of women, abuse, violence, alcoholism, drug addictions, sexism etc. And they way I see it; Marilyn Monroe was one of the biggest victims of film industry. But like I said; this movie is not for everyone. It's dark, brutal, depressing, weird and doesn't hold any punches. The backlash is understandable, but I admire Dominik and De Armas for taking so many risks and make a movie that is not trying to please the crowd and feed it with cheap nostalgia. And like it or not; things in this movie are happening to women all over the world every day.
@@Jessi-44 yeah but what's the point in making fictional movies based on real people and events. It's so confusing. Imagine someone's making a movie about you but most of it is bull? Yohh they did MM dirty. Hollywood already stared her in movies as a dumb blonde, and now they're showing her as one too in closed doors.
There's something chilling about how Marilyn sang "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend", specifically the lines "men grow cold as girls grow old" and "we all lose our charm in the end". It's so painfully ironic that she never grew old and never lost that charm because we never got to see her age past her mid-late thirties. Marilyn Monroe will never die or age because Norma Jean's death immortalized her.
Wow thats actually so insightful and kind of terrifying. She died immortalized as her fabrication. Shes a legend but it cost her so much, even her life. Fameis is crazy
@@Thecandyquinn Same age as Diana, Princess of Wales. Elton John may have been very insightful when he chose to adapt hos tribute to Monroe to sing at Diana's funeral.
@@VLind-uk6mb Yes. Princess Diana as well. She will always remain as "that" version of Princess Diana: young, a loving mother to two kids, a humanitarian.
@@trueblueedits4673 its literally like selling your soul in a way. Youre human self dies but your essence will live on. Yeesh i just got goosebumps. Its like some modern witchcraft. Even this film which im so excited for is just another way to make money off of Normas story
Great point. It’s almost parallel to the live by the sword die by the sword thing. Even if she didn’t want to, Marilyn certainly became extremely invested in flirtation, sex appeal, physical appearance, etc. Again, I don’t think this was her fault at all but her only way of making money. But it also seems like she got some self-worth out of feeling pretty. This is probably true for anyone who gets paid for how they look, it’s bound to rub off on your sense of worth. How sad that she couldn’t face the future of getting old and “ugly”. I love the line by Oscar Wilde, “the ugly can be beautiful. The pretty, never.”
I love the use of aspect ratio and cinematography of this movie. It's a movie that was made last year and yet it looks exactly like a movie that could've come out in the 50s or 60s, the exact time period that this movie depicts. I miss seeing new black and white movies and I'm glad some filmmakers are still keeping this type of filmmaking alive these days
@@GeloYellow that Rebecca Hall movie starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga? Yeah I know that and I like it. And also Kenneth Branagh's Belfast used the same filmmaking technique to tell his story. Both movies came out last year anyways so yeah still wishing for more movies with this technique
Pawlikowski and Lukasz Zal kinda brought Academy ratio back in vogue over the past decade with Ida winning the Oscar and Cold War nominated for several more including cinematography. Even Cuaron tried to convince Chivo to do Roma in the aspect ratio but Chivo talked him out of it before being unable to shoot the movie. Pavel and Alfonso are close friends and Cold War and Roma are considered by them both as "sister movies". Lukasz Zal also shot the excellent latest Charlie Kaufman feature for Netflix in the same aspect ratio but in color.
You can see that the actress does a spectacular job, even in the trailer you can feel her grace, charisma and pain, the psychological approach of the script and the use of mirrors as symbolism reminds me of the black swan and the photography of conrad hall. Incredible!
Ana was amazing and completely transformed into her, gave an eerie peek into what it must’ve been like to see her in real time. Her performance transcended every expectation. The disrespect shown to Marilyn throughout the film is pretty unforgivable though and I hate that this is marketed as a biopic when it is NOT. Norma Jeane was not who Andrew Dominik insinuates she was. She was so much more.
He definitely didn’t sugar coat it, her very troubled childhood explains her melancholy and the choices she made. The movie was more of what Hollywood can do to someone that is unstable and gets into that business, especially in those days. Aside from MM, it also gave bad light of DeMagio and JFK who people probably will still admire because of their profession despite their shortfalls so doubt it will be any different for MM.
@@acer4237 I’m upset as a lifetime fan of hers, because she specifically stated she did not want to be made into a joke, and she was made into one. I understand his passion or his vision or whatever it may be that drove him to make this, but I wish he hadn’t. She suffered a lot, yes, absolutely, but he made the whole film about an abortion that isn’t even on record to have happened. She did not call Joe or Arthur or anyone else “daddy” (especially every two seconds? The purpose was lost on me) and the sex scenes were exploitative. Why he took RUMORS of an affair and turned them into grotesque POV shots of her being forced to give him a blowjob - I don’t know. Even if all of this were FACT (it isn’t) it wasn’t done respectfully or tastefully. They filmed her death scene exactly where she died, like the actual spot. That’s not cool. She suffered greatly but she wasn’t nothing but a victim. He painted her a victim and nothing else, and most of the shit he painted her a victim to she never was. She deserves a better script with better intentions imo. :/
The details of the outfits, hair, makeup…. Sooo spot on. Each scene I could recall exactly the original look of Marilyn and it’s pretty spot on. Ana is sooo beautiful.
I read a book about Marilyn when I was in my early twenties. I had so much empathy for her. I was so saddened by the idea of her not having good people around her to truly love her and make her life experience better. With this in mind, that's we should be doing with each other as much as possible. Lifting each other up and making our collective life experiences better.
This is something very normal in the show business. Many artists feel alone and used. Read the latest rant of Britney Spears against her mother. Is all the same. Many artist can’t trust the motives of people that come near of them. They think people are in love with the personification they are doing but not them.
Hollywood really used her for what they wanted, chewed and spat her out. She wanted the fame but it was a double edged sword. You’re right though- she needed the right people around her to love, support and ground her.
Marilyn didn’t know how famous she was going to be!!! And I’m still not over people handing Marilyn’s famous dress so easily 😭😭😭 she deserved better even after passing
@plantcraftie that’s not the point Marilyn said she wanted to be the only one who could wear that dress and her wishes were totally disregarded so before you start acting stupid online plz go get a life 😘🤯🥹💀
Incredible performance by Ana de Armas, she has to win an Oscar here. And even if half of what's suggested in this film is true it just adds so much sadness to the Monroe story
Whoever did the music editing for this trailer deserves a grammy. A genius use of this song - excellent execution. Best trailer Ive seen in a long time
ok but the scenes in her movies that were recreated literally look like the original ones that’s amazing and surreal actually Update : This was bad, I’m so sorry style over substance isn’t enough and this looked like a parody of Marilyn’s own suffering, foolish spectacle.
A highly intelligent woman treated awful throughout her life, put on the highest pedestal possible, discarded like trash, used instead of helped and eventually murdered by the Mob. Norma Jean was beautifully imperfect and she didn't deserve 36 years of torture from the people supposed to love her, take care of her and treat her right. Her lifestory is heartbreaking. I sincerely hope that Norma Jean has found the perfect Peace 💕💋
This trailer leaves me with a deep sickening feeling, such a tragic figure she was. The whole thing was hauntingly beautiful, I bet the whole film’s gonna hurt even more

I live in Spain, and I remember growing up watching Ana de Armas in the spanish teen tv show "El Internado" like 15 years ago, it makes me so happy for her seeing all the work she's gotten in Hollywood, and now...getting to portray the one and only Marilyn Monroe, gosh...I feel so proud of her and how far she's come ^^
Hey! I also know her from El Internado, I loved that show, it was aired in Romania. A lot of good actors there, glad to see at least Ana de Armas making it so big!
GOSH THIS MOVIE WAS SO DISAPPOINTING. I usually hate seeing public comments trashing a movie no matter what it is - yet I just have to make a comment on this film. I’m not even a devoted fan of Marilyn by any means, so do with that what you will. Admittedly, the cinematography and much of the scene work was breathtaking and artfully executed. Really, just stunning. From the colours, to the gorgeous black & white scenes, it’s beautiful. It was special to see some of Marilyn’s famous portraits come to life in real moving scenes. And Ana de Armas was incredible in her portrayal. Her acting was great visually, including her uncanny resemblance, to her incredibly accurate mannerisms. It felt like you were actually watching Marilyn at many moments. The only small bit that shook that image was the occasional slight accent, but you can’t hold it against her - it’s easy to overlook and arguably Ana is one of the best actors for the role. You can tell she worked incredibly hard and embodied what she could of Marilyn very well. The material *however* was an absolute sheer waste of Ana’s talent. SERIOUSLY. Marilyn had a very hard life, both pre-fame and during her rise as a star. Behind the glamour, she was repeatedly taken advantage of and objectified and abused. She genuinely faced many challenges, and this is what you expect this film to dive in to from the way it is framed in teasers and trailers. This movie summarises this aspect however with no humanising truth or actual insight after all. It anchors Marilyn’s entire character primarily in bursts of sobbing, sprinkled in with sudden screaming fests, as well as high impact sex scenes ranging from threesomes, simulated blow jobs, or rape. In fact most of her scenes are literally just of her crying, or being naked. It all comes across as simply for shock value, nothing more. The added myths in the storyline are unfortunately all pointless too; it could have focused on so many real life references and experiences of hers, as enough revealed snippets of her private life exist to create such a story. Her struggles with her emotional and mental wellbeing are portrayed very unrealistically - substituted instead with huge exaggeration and almost continual manic meltdowns. They truly wrote her character as this constantly unhinged & almost depraved being, either as a sexed-up or drugged-up object quite literally passed & dragged along from man to man. Marilyn was a shiny sex symbol in the spotlight yet was also hard-working and really quite articulate and sincere in person, but none of this is expressed. Even in some real life interviews, she is vulnerable as to describe her unhappiness and emptiness in life with great self awareness & emotional intelligence. There is virtually no such implication in this film, where she is greatly dumbed down and seemingly overwhelmed with unrelenting “daddy issues” proposed as the core of her woes. You anticipate this film to make her more human. It does the very opposite. All in all, underlying this unexpectedly bizarre characterisation of Marilyn, it really is as though she is written to have zero consciousness or autonomy as a person. I found myself increasing the speed of the film just to finish it faster - something I’ve never done before even in bad films or shows! It lacks so much… no… ANY depth and intimacy for a film that claims to show a behind-the-scenes insight into the real Marilyn, Norma Jane. Instead it condescends her, and strips her of all dignity. The quality of cast and cinematography feel so disjointed from the amateur, weak script writing itself. It’s very fractured; like a weird, cheap montage with flashes of her performances amongst her never-ending, overwhelming instability. It’s a really bad prototype of a movie, that somehow, tragically made its way into a professional studio.
This is the best review I've read of this film by far. I completely agree with you. It is an absolute travesty for those who admire Monroe. Just sheer disappointment, except for Ana DeArmas' acting.
“Hi Daddy! Where’d you go to? *Back hand swing to M’s face* “Oh Daddy, it’s my fault I don’t know how the room got this way… I’ve been sick, I guess.” -shock factor? or men living out their own nasty fantasies on Ana?…we’ll never know. 🤢🤢🤮🤮
I like how the trailer doesn’t show the entire plot of the movie. And something about it really has that dark and haunting feel to it that it sends chills down your spine.
So I guess it's okay to have a Latino woman play a white woman? Where is the outrage about "appropriation" from the woke people? Talk about hypocrisy and double standards.
@@sameasyou1327 Since when does an actor have to be the same nationality as the person he was portraying? Jesus Christ wasn't an American, but James Patrick Caviezel Jr. played him in the Passion of Christ, Alexander the Great wasn't Irish, but Colin Farrell played him, etc.... Its called acting.
@@rayarena879 Couldn’t agree more and now people are back lashing James Franco for playing a Cuban because he’s not Latino enough. People need to understand that acting is portraying someone that you are actually not.
Awards season is starting the Golden Globes has just announced their list for Best Actress and Ana de Armas was nominated for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in Netflix's BLONDE. Good LUCK Ana!
I don't even think it's just the physical appearance, there's some moments that her mannerisms are so perfect it tricks you into thinking they look even more similar. In this trailer, the way she tilts her head and the bit with her putting her hands on her face (for a scene from Some Like it Hot, by the looks of it) is perfect. I'm impressed.
I wish they would have given her a little more time with a dialect coach, because other than Ana's beautiful accent coming through loud and clear, this portrayal is flawless. Very well cast!
Ngl I like that she has the accent. The book is a novelization of Marilyn's life, and if the movie is faithful at all, the whole point is to deconstruct the persona. Having her speak with an accent is kind of a brilliant move to reinforce the point that the Marilyn on screen that we know is a fraud
Even the best actors sometimes have their natural accents bleed through. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to try and get rid of a thick Spanish accent.
@@andreimileti Yeah! I think Ana's accent also helps reinforce that this *is* a work of fiction, even more than a straight-forward biopic is a work of fiction. We aren't watching the true facts, and having the actor not try to replicate Marilyn perfectly really works for that. Besides, she evokes the tone, which might be even more important!
This film honestly felt like someone was struggling with a teen pornography fetish while they wrote the script. How many times did they need to have Ana say “Daddy” while she struggled with daddy issues? There were scenes of her being beaten & still saying “Daddy ” in an endearing & bewildered tone. Spotlighting her submissiveness. Extremely devalued her character by using her wide innocent eyes in crude & abusive situations. Perhaps the most realistic portrayal of Hollywood & the porn industry. Where grimy men in power exploit women ruthlessly to benefit themselves until the next beauty comes along. Marilyn was merely a sad eyed puppet in the majority of this film. The cinematography, costume, makeup, set design were done beautifully. The script & plot should be put up in flames with the rest of her character’s childhood home.
@@eltocayo87 it really did. There are many movies from Quentin Tarantino that will be standing the test of time. This film will be easily forgotten. Eye candy without substance.
I agree with your point about the script bordering on porn fetish, it was gratuitous in too many scenes. One might excuse the explicit scenes if it was a case of realism in documenting true events, but this is NOT what really happened in her life, so what is the justification for the gratuitous content? I left the room for a few minutes and came back to the scene in the president's bedrroom. If you have seen the movie, you know what I'm referring to. I thought my wife had meanwhile switched over to a porn channel by mistake. Was that scene really necessary, in a movie that wasn't really an accurate account. I don't think so.
What I really like is how Ana is portraying Marilyn’s real feelings in these situations rather than how Marilyn showed them people always said it was rare to see her visibly sad especially in front of cameras because she’d turn on a switch

She died 60 years ago, and we still cannot get enough of her, she would be 96 years old. This beautiful actress Ana de Armas looks the best of any actress IMO that has tried to emulate the incomparable Marilyn Monroe.
This trailer makes me want to cry. That emotion and expression Ana De Armas can express with just her eyes is staggering, and knowing the outcome. It's just so monumentally sad.
Ana De Armas is spectacular in every sense. I would predict an Oscar for her, not necessarily for this movie, but in her career. But really talent like that doesn't need any recognition, it speaks by itself.
Murdered. There is a ex-mafia made man on here who talks about and what his father told him... she definitely was going to blab about mafia business... they forced an OD with an enema. It's so sad.
Absolutely disgraceful the way it portrayed Marilyn's life. Her one wish in life was to not be seen as a joke. Majority of the movie is based off of rumor. So disappointed in this movie! Would rate it zero.
Noone may ever really know what she was really going through. And truth is she herself may approve of some things here. While it may not be true, it represents a side of Monroe "that was there" and none of us know how dark it really was. But this film takes it and in my mind makes an authentic look at the fact the Norma truly was unhappy and very disturbed.
@@itsjjust_ixand that “fictional book” you’re talking about portrays Marilyn as nothing but a sick joke for people to laugh about just like this movie, please don’t make excuses for this disgusting movie..Marilyn would’ve been disgusted by it like how we are..

@eternal rain He's definitely a genius (e.g. Jesse James), but I doubt that he - himself - edited the trailer. Anyway, the trailer is trailer art perfection...
Those "Niagara" shots are totally a cinematic match to that film's color palette. Well done. That movie is a potboiler for sure, but one I never tire of watching. Norma Jean was impersonating a character called "Marilyn." I always love seeing her drop that mask somewhat when I watch her best dramatic work in films like "Bus Stop" and "The MIsfits."

Wow!!! Just watched the movie her life was hard from the very beginning. She was such a delicate flower and it's sad the way the men in her life used her up. The women who played Marilyn Monroe did a phenomenal job. It was a very emotional movie
I am so excited to see Ana de Armas getting such good roles. She’s gonna smash this out of the park! First time I saw her was watching “Knock Knock” & I thought she was ridiculously stunning as well as in incredibly talented. BUT… I hope she’s taking notes from this role because I would never want Ana to go through the downward spiral of fame & fortune that consumed Marilyn Monroe.
Marilyn Monroe worked from 1945-1962 (17 years) and Ana de Armas has been working since 2006 (16 years)... Marilyn lived to 36, and Ana is 34... so... fingers crossed I guess!
It's a surreal, poetic meditation on an inexpressibly sad, short life of mistreatment and powerlessness. The beauty of the film transcends the tragedy. Ana de Armas is brilliant.
Marilyn Monroe, Judy Garland, Princess Diana...some of the kindest, most inspiring celebrities out there led truly saddening lives, and nobody really realized until after they died.
So happy seeing the Cuban princess come from a Cuban soap star to being one of the most sort after actresses. She really does look stunning in so many ways!! Like that smile is unreal!! So mesmerising to watch!!
Really excited for this and I'm sure Andrew Dominik together with Ana and all these talented actors and actresses could have done really well. Just everyone, keep in mind that this is not a biopic, it's a book adaptation of Joyce Carol Oates' novel "Blonde".
So basically it's kinda like a Spencer and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood vibes, a fictional take on the historical person, in other words, reimagining. And if people wanted a straightforward biopic Monroe movie they can watch My Week With Marilyn intead
@@michaelklassen777 Well The novel and the movie blur the line of fact amd fiction so it hard to distinguish . Tho , i have one thing to say The novel capture Marilyn life in a more spiritual way . It was sad to see her life on a factual side but when you read Blonde , it was heart wrenching since you weren't just read a novel about Norma Jean / Marilyn Monroe , you became her spiritually see her life through her point of view . The book is kinda divisive (actually this type of "biopic" is divisive) , but personally i loved it . If you loved Spencer , you might loved Blonde .
This looks great and I'm excited to see it, but everyone should keep in mind that it is based off a FICTIONAL book. I'm scared people will go into it thinking this is an accurate depiction of her life. We can enjoy it for what it is and not treat it as factual
On the first pandemic, I spend one month connecting with Marilyn’s story and her struggles. I related a lot on the distance between her persona and who she really was. I am so pleasantly surprised to see another movie that tells her struggle as a sensitive woman of great feminine power in a men’s word.
“Feminine power” isn’t sleeping with celebrities and politicians. Monica Lewinsky got shamed for what Marilyn did to get/stay famous . It’s no deeper than rated R hannah Montana
this trailer makes me cry...i love her so much..behind this glamorous world, her life was actually so tragic..but she was stronger than her problems *That's why everyone call her "hero" not heroine* thank you Netflix for this..it will be a great gift for merilyn's fans💐
The cinematography/editing looks AMAZING. I think, much like Spencer, this will be polarizing. Those wanting a straightforward biopic like Judy that plays it safe are going to hate it. But those looking for something more impressionistic and artistic and unique while maybe taking some liberties with the true story will love it. I absolutely can't wait, and for the record I think Spencer is one of the most harrowing horror films I've ever seen (that's not in the horror genre). And I'm assuming the scene where she goes in that man's office is going to be what gave it the NC17 rating.
I agree not only is it with Spencer but also other anti-biopic films like I’m not there, Marie Antoinette, citizen Kane, la vie en rose and the favourite films that follow real life people but execute them entirely differently than typical biopic to convey the actual depth and complexity of that real life public figures’ life and career
I’ve always loved her... her plight has always been very relatable to me...in part always this fear... of being unloved for the person you really are, because you are valued mainly because of what you look like... some people make you feel just like a pretty thing, a thing, even if they know how smart, sweet you are... they still make you feel like a thing...it’s happened to me... i’m sure to others too...
Watched by all. Seen by none. This brought me to tears because it sums up a glaring and understated problem. People are not products. Humans are not objects. Behind every fantasy is a broken soul. Behind every flashy show is a broken and abused heart. This is the problem with the hyper sexualization of culture, and especially the porn industry. I hope this movie begins to undo the terrible movement Hugh Hefner and the like started in mainstream culture. I have a dream today.
What a raw and emotional trailer! Marilyn as portrayed is a persona that succumbs to the pressures of fame, money and misfortune. I hope people understand the trajectory of hardship undergone by her and her helplessness when it comes to dealing with her body under the spotlight. Suffering for the sake of being a screen siren is not something anyone should go through
Thats what I call marvelous acting, portraying Marilyn Monroe like she really genuine was! The viewers in this case ourselves have to be convinced without a doubt that watching her story life and accepting as it was is the main reason why we go to the movies!
Except this is not a real representation of her actual life. The novel is fictionalized version of her life and the director has said it's a fantasy. Normies are going to hate this movie.
@James Young ....this trailer was presented on UA-cam 28 of july 2022.....and has nearly 5 million views ! It's just how viewers responded to the producer and Ana de Armas...
I've finished viewing it. Heart breaking what the actress was going through. The pressure from the media and her personal life. Ana De Armas should receive an Oscar for her performance.
Ana’s accent comes out a little bit and I’m usually very “demanding” when it comes to this kind of things, but honestly she’s so powerful. On an emotional level, she’s GIVING. She’s definitely gonna crush this role, and also this trailer looks great.
"Ana’s accent comes out a little bit ." A little bit? I had to look up where Marilyn Monroe was born even though I've always known her to be American. That's how much Ana's accent sounded to me She's a good actress, but If other actors and actresses can fake an American accent, she should be able to as well.
@@ChuckWasHere Well I’m Italian and I’ve had to bear shitty Italian accents from american actors my entire life, of course she doesn’t sound American as she should, but I think she sounds and looks so emotionally powerful is these clips, that she’s probably gonna be a great Marylin anyway. Many american actresses approached Marylin and they probably didn’t come close to her as Ana seems to have done in this trailer alone. Let’s give her a chance :)
@@ChuckWasHere Ana didn’t even speak English when she first started in Hollywood. So for someone who hasn’t know the language for that long I think expecting them to completely obliterate their native accent is ridiculous. She worked with a dialect coach for a year for this movie. I would have thought Marilyn Monroe would have had the same kind of accent we've heard in old movies. As an hispanic I can still hear her accent heavily.
Man… although it’s a slightly unique trauma that I’m sure her and too many others have had to go through in that industry, the fact remains that her story… when you dig to the core of it resonates with millions of people that have had to pretend to be something they are not. Many of which are/were damaged because of it. Going to be a good one I’m sure!
That brief shot of Ana playing Marilyn in “Some Like it Hot” is incredible- she looks nearly identical to Marilyn. I don’t mind that you can hear her accent. I think she is probably going to pull off the most accurate depiction of Marilyn we have ever seen.
Yes I was most impressed by that. I have yet to see an actress actually move her eyes and mouth like Marilyn they always slap on a bad wig and think it works but Monroe had this unique seduction to her mixed with a childlike innocence that I think Ana will really capture.

In no way shape or form is Ana a perfect fit as Marilyn was heavier. Her performance is worthy of an Oscar nomination. But, the Oscar’s should be going to a lot of the people who worked on this from the screenplay to make up.
Please remember that this film is based on a FICTITIOUS book based on Marilyn's life - not an official biography. A FICTITIOUS BOOK. So this is a FICTITIOUS film based on a FICTIOUS story. This is important to know because many people will believe that this film is true, when it is not at all.
This is exactly what a trailer should be like. Give a hint of the movies premise without showing us the entire movie. Can't wait to see it. Ana de Armas rocks
Marilyn had such a tragic life. You have to love her for being able to survive so much that wasn't survivable. She's haunting to this day there has never been another actress than can match her.
It's amazing that she survived as long as she did. Marilyn had NO reliable support system. Ppl that knew her, especially men described her as being uber needy but it was so much more than that. Her mother was institutionalized off and on when she was a child. Due to Moma Glady's frequent absences, Marilyn went thru dozens of foster homes where she was either neglected, or abused. I believe in the end, in those last several days of her life, that Marilyn was only beginning to attempt to put the fragments of her life together. She was rehired by 20th Century Fox to finish the film "Somethings Got to Give". According to her friend Jeanne Carmen or Cranne, I can't remember her last name for sure, Marilyn planned a press conference to expose some very powerful ppl and their shenanigans and she was wanting to call this press conference for the following week, but she died before this could happen. Marilyn's diary mysteriously disappeared after she died and her phones, as well as her home in Brentwood had been bugged for some time. Various sources have stated that Marilyn did not end her life no matter what most believe. Her death is considered a mob hit. So much so that Jeanne Carmen/Crane was too frightened to come forward with what she knew cuz she was threatened by mob associates to keep her mouth shut and to get out of town following her friends death. It's alleged that her housekeeper took a trip overseas afterward.. even though there was no way that she could have afforded such a thing. Marilyn had grown sick and tired of being exploited by powerful men and she had a right to be angry, but the wounded child that she basically still was, while attempting to burn so many bridges during the last full week of her life didn't realize that she would be the one to get consumed.
Ana was unbelievably good in this role. It was devastating how well she made you feel her pain. While the movie has some huge problems, Ana was not one of them. This is one of the best performances of the past decade.
Absolutely LOVE how it gives us a glimpse without showing and spoiling the entire movie! Makes me want to see it. They also did a great job of having her look the part too. Can’t wait
Marylin was an extraordinary actress. You only need to see "The Misfits", "Don't Bother to Knock", "Bus Stop" or, of course, "Some like it hot" to see how well she used to play any kind of character. I am sure Ana de Armas has gone an impressive work. Good luck!
I love all of those films. I wish she’d been able to do more dramatic work like “The Misfits”. I love all of her work, but she was so much more than the gold digger, or the dumb blonde roles that seem to have cemented her legacy to some viewers. What they’ve put together of her final unfinished film “Something’s Got To Give” looked like it would have been another great performance, and a different kind of role for Marilyn.

You need to understand a couple of things before watching;
- this is not a biopic about Marilyn Monroe, at least not in a traditional way (both Andrew Dominik and Joyce Carol Oates even said that this movie is a work of fiction mixed with some real events).
So true, she got sexual harassment when she was alive. Poor norma
You do understand (I hope) the whole film is fiction. There is very little of a "true" biography of Monroe.
You do realise that it’s a totally fictional story.
@@Jessi-44 yeah but what's the point in making fictional movies based on real people and events. It's so confusing. Imagine someone's making a movie about you but most of it is bull? There's something chilling about how Marilyn sang "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend", specifically the lines "men grow cold as girls grow old" and "we all lose our charm in the end". It's so painfully ironic that she never grew old and never lost that charm because we never got to see her age past her mid-late thirties. Marilyn Monroe will never die or age because Norma Jean's death immortalized her.
Wow thats actually so insightful and kind of terrifying. She died immortalized as her fabrication. Shes a legend but it cost her so much, even her life. Fameis is crazy

Luckily, because Spanish TV was too harsh on her. Jealousy perhaps?
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
This is the best review I've read of this film by far. I completely agree with you. It is an absolute travesty for those who admire Monroe. Just sheer disappointment, except for Ana DeArmas' acting.

@@CaptainExplode Maaan! I kid you not, I wrote my comment before I saw yours, lol.
All? You mean every one? Okay.
Netflix again exploits. The worst company! Glad many people stopped watching this 20mins into the movie.
I was excited to see this film. From the comments it looks like it lacks authenticity.
@@eltocayo87 it really did. There are many movies from Quentin Tarantino that will be standing the test of time. This film will be easily forgotten. Eye candy without substance.
@@graciedays So true. This was a disgusting portrayal of Marilyn Monroe's life from the director and writer.

It's true but Ana de Armas looks a lot like Marilyn both physically and in mannerisms

Well marilyn do the all shit for fame and money so its pretty normal especially hollywood in those years.. Pretty lame.
@@starlightperkins330 what age did she die?
Andrew Dominik is a madperson of a filmmaker and thank goodness for that. This is the perfect teamup of vision + casting
Can’t wait
The way she PERFECTLY encapsulates Marilyn
Marylin was an extraordinary actress. You only need to see "The Misfits", "Don't Bother to Knock", "Bus Stop" or, of course, "Some like it hot" to see how well she used to play any kind of character. I am sure Ana de Armas has gone an impressive work. Good luck!
i loved some like it hot was an amazing movie
I love all of those films. I wish she’d been able to do more dramatic work like “The Misfits”. I love all of her work, but she was so much more than the gold digger, or the dumb blonde roles that seem to have cemented her legacy to some viewers. What they’ve put together of her final unfinished film “Something’s Got To Give” looked like it would have been another great performance, and a different kind of role for Marilyn.
@@marilynsmymother711 yeah
SGTG have her played a mother , a role she never played and her first role where her character has children , something that she never could have
So I guess it's okay to have a Latino woman play a white woman? Where is the outrage about "appropriation" from the woke people? Talk about hypocrisy and double standards.
Of course, her drama roles showcased that she was a real talent. Niagra was a really good movie. She had to play a bit of her "Marilyn" role in it, but overall, she was able to branch out.
You know Ana de Armas is gonna knock this out of the park.
I don't care what people are saying about Ana's accent coming through. This looks fantastic and Ana is quite possibly the only actress in Hollywood who can look this similar to Marilyn. She's our Cuban Marilyn, can't wait to watch!
Her mom was from Coahuila, Mexico. Marilyn Monroe, can speak Spanish fluently and her home was known to be decorated with Mexican furniture and paintings of Mexican art. She never forget her roots.
our Evelyn Hugo :)))
Marilyn was WHITE and so is Ana. Both are CAUCASIAN.
@@CindyCuevas Marilyn's mother was born in Mexico but not to Mexican parents, it was just a matter of location, not ancestry - Marilyn's maternal grandparents were Otis Elmer Monroe and Della Mae Hogan from the midwest. Neither she nor her family is Latino.
@@SydneyChandler Aw no way I had no idea! ty!
My body radiates with empathy for this woman. Always has. Her story is so much more than anyone could imagine. Imagine your entire life longing for a spotlight to give you the warmth a mother never could only for it to burn right through you. I love you Marilyn 🖤
Society failed this woman terribly and til this day people still see her as a "sexual object", I hope where she is with God, she finds peace and joy to be herself 🕊
Love your comment! Love it.💗💗💗
0:56 She nailed the Niagara entrance scene - looks so much the original.😍
This is a fictionalized biopic but for sure will expound on the themes of Monroe's life.
OMG... I thought exactly the same. Utterly similar!
i was just watching Niagara yesterday and I was confused for a moment seeing the clip in this trailer and thinking is that Ana? Spot on
Yes, Ana gots both cuban and spanish blood in her. To me, i dont care where shes from but yes the fact that her great acting made Marilyn come to life, like if Marilyn was in her during the entire filming. Ana was just amazing in this movie. See you in the Oscars Ana!!!
