Thanks for the comment! I keep hearing people say this is the best bike for a newbie like myself. I’m glad to hear you agree. Congrats on the new bike too!
Appreciate the non-hype point of view with some useful ownership experience! Also you have a very good speaking voice! Pretty good audio considering you are riding around!
I had a 2007. I’ve had a lot of motorcycles, and this was one of my favorites. A very practical bike, a little heavy for the trails and a little light for freeway riding. but like you said, it’ll do everything but it doesn’t do everything well.
I have ridden since I was 5 years old. I’m now 58. Had everything from a Honda 50 to a Katana 600 to an Electra glide. My last bike was a 50cc Yamaha scooter. My favorite was the scooter. Low and slow is awesome!!! Speed is not everything.
Thanks for providing your point of view… means a lot to us who are just starting out. I think having a scooter would be a blast for tooling around town. Maybe one day I’ll have one
It's a great bike. It does all the things, and that's what it does really well. It'll take you anywhere, do just about anything, carry all the stuff, and not cost alot doing it.
@@JoeImburgiaThe only thing it really needs is a 6th gear and more horsepower. I hear there will be a new 700cc baja version of the klr coming out soon but maybe just rumors and click bait..
I need another motorcycle like I need another hole in my head.... Totally want a KLR of any gen in my garage. It's a do everything bike. Doesn't do anything great, or quickly...but it'll do it.
“Another” hole in your head? Are you alright man? 😂 Also, I agree. The KLR is one of the best beginner bikes for the reasons you listed. Sometimes my wandering eye likes that CRF300 Rally tho 👀
@@JoeImburgia lol well I've got the usually number of holes in my head people are born with... I just didn't need a new one. But I'd definitely take another bike in the garage! A couple of later gen 1 KLR's in my area for about $2k. Doesn't seem *too* bad.
My first bike as well at 31. Grew up riding a Kawasaki KX80, my parents rode Harley’s. I think the bike does everything I need it to. It is slower than I’d like, but I don’t do well with self-control, so this helps to keep me tame.
Don't forget about the 16 tooth sprocket upgrade to get lower rpms at highway speeds, plenty of videos on that especially since you mostly do paved roads.
Thank you! I try to keep up with all the trendy mods people do it too. Howdy, I am very much against the doohickey. I’m on the team of regular oil changes and original doohickey!
People in the FB forums say kawasaki hasn’t change it out. But people (myself included) think if it was a serious issue, Kawasaki would have addressed it. I have also heard the eagle mike replacement doohickey is garbage! That is coming from a motorcycle tech who saw one getting installed on someone’s klr. I will not be changing mine. I just do the minor maintenance adjustment when I do oil changes.
@@JoeImburgia Doohickey on my 2007 was broken when I went to check it at about 5,000 miles. Bought new, maintained well. I hear they've made some slight changes but it's still something to keep an eye on.
I saw something on this a while back. I never checked mine but I never noticed an issue… then again this is the only bike I’ve ever ridden so I might break out the torque wrench… thanks!
I’m also 26 years old and I also just got a gen 3 KLR as my first bike ! I couldn’t agree with you more about everything you said. It’s a great bike, not very fast but who cares
Exactly. I think it’s the perfect first bike. It will do everything you want it to, just not best at anything. Then in a few years if you want to get something else, just figure out what you enjoyed doing the most with the KLR and look at the category of bikes. Ride safe 👌🏼
Glad to hear you're enjoying it! I really like mine too. But sometimes wish it had more power for highway riding. Especially in Ohio where we don't have much land to play around on.
@@JoeImburgia I understand about the power, I know eventually I'll be changing the klr, I really like the suzuki vstrom 800de, best of luck to you and looking forward in watching more videos from the channel 👍🏽
Great bike, but it was a little too tall and top heavy for me at 5'9"...very intimidating. I went w a Himalayan instead, but now they have a "shorter" version. Digging the Himalayan anyway. KLR is defiantly a do-it- all bike for sure, have fun!

That concept only applies when it comes to women 😅. (Unless you want a life full of regrets). I actually own 5 bikes all purchased used, 3 street, 1 dirt and my all around go to favorite the KLR.
I bought one in 2022 and put a few thousand miles on it. I didn't ride it in 2023. I bought a new V-Strom 800DE in 2023. It's easily 10x the bike that the KLR is. It's not "cheap" if you replace it after a year.
My mom watches these videos…. I got it up to 100 going downhill on the freeway one time. I’m also not a small fella. So I think I might weigh her down.
I’m not aware of any vibration issues. However, this is my first and only motorcycle, so I have nothing to really compare it to. I’ve ridden my buddies GS310 briefly and it was smoother, but the difference wasn’t significant enough to claim there was an issue with my KLR. I will say, the GPS/accessory bar on the KLR Gen 3 vibrates like crazy. So much that it ruined the camera on my iPhone X on the Quadlock mount with the vibration dampener. I have since bought an iPhone 14 and am reluctant to use the Quadlock again. I have heard it’s safe to mount to the handlebars because there is less vibration there… still makes me worrisome though.

Nice job 😁
Thank you!
Get the windshield risers. Best mod for the price!
I’ve considered this because of the functionality of it, but I hate the look of the vertical windshield.
I've been considering a KLR or maybe a 650 versys. I wonder about the "doohickey" though, and did they address that problem?

Make sure the steering head nut is torqued right… some came out of the factory with it torqued too tight… warning sign is sluggish steering…
