My momma was 100% one of the "keep it together and don't let them see you cry" types. She used to get onto me all the time when I was a kid for being too dramatic. I hated it growing up but as an adult it has served me well to an extent. Too many times as a woman if you act too emotional you get brushed off, called "crazy", and not listened too. The number of times as a grown up that I had to keep my emotions buttoned down HARD just to have my voice heard and taken seriously is a lot.
My first big breakup was when I was 19. We had dated for 3 years. My momma told me I could cry 1 night then I had to straighten up. Southern mommas are built different.
