My friend just gave me all of his copics.. So grateful to him. He gave me somewhere around fifty markers for free with amazing color variation. This was very helpful!! Thank you as always!
Just a little tip with what I've experienced with alcohol markers (and no not just copics) is that they all work together because they all use alcohol inks, so if you can't afford a load of colours in one go, you can get maybe one or two copics and then bulk out your collection with cheaper brands that use similar inks, that way you can still practice and blend colours before you need to splurge out on all of the colours that copic has to offer. Hope this helps! love your work Valerie and love this piece! So cute!
I started using Copic markers recently and I'm hooked! They are definitely worth the money! Right now I only have 17 markers but that will rapidly change in the future. X3
I've been using Copics for around a year now AND YOU BLEW MY MIND TALKING ABOUT HOW THEY WERE DESIGNED WITH PRINTERS IN MIND. Life changing. About to try it out! Thank you so much for your insight! Your illustration is adorable and I love the design of her dress especially ☺️
I went to an official Copic coloring class and the teacher kept stressing to us to scan the drawings in and always color a printed version just in case you messed up.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE READ THIS COMMENT!!! IT IS SERIOUSLY SO VERY IMPORTANT!!! THERE IS A GIRL ON INSTAGRAM STEALING YOUR ART!! HER NAME IS janiearts AND I DONT THINK YOU WANT SOMEONE STEALING YOUR ART!!!!
Cool video. I saw you asked for our best tips for Copic coloring! My biggest tip for using Copics is this: Work rather quickly when laying down a single color as to prevent patchiness! If you lay a color on top of ink in that color that is already dry, the strokes will darken where they overlap. If you color a section quickly, while the ink is still fresh and not-yet-absorbed into the paper, you can avoid that!
If people are having difficulty finding Copic markers another artist quality marker is the ShinHan Touch Twin marker. Also Copic is a dye based ink so you want to scan your finished work as it will color shift over time.
It has nothing to do with Copics being everywhere...What Kristen K means means is the the your original piece of art work-that you worked so hard on and you are so proud of-will fade over time unless it is kept out of light...in other words your original piece, if kept out in the open, will slowly fade away so that the only thing left will be the paper you started with. So photocopy your piece for others to see and put the original away out of light...who knows someday the original may be worth millions!
When I started to use Copics, I wish I knew that I would also need a specific type of paper, that the color blending/shading looks a lot rougher up close than on a UA-cam video, that it's a stupid idea to buy 6 of them at full price from Micheal's, and that it won't, on its own, make me color like a pro.
Val, I have been using Copics for about 5-6 years and I'm glad you mentioned paper first. I almost exclusively use Neenah solar white 80 or 100lb. Cardstock because for me, that works the best with Copics. There are other papers that work well too, but you can't just expect a Copic to blend on any old paper, which you pointed out very well. I know people complain that Copics are so expensive, but honestly you will own your marker for life, so the investment really isn't high when you consider that fact. Many other markers are not refillable, or you can replace the nibs, etc... as you can with Copics. They are certainly and investment, but a worthwhile one. You must be very careful both printing out your work on a printer or using pens with Copics because they do not play well with many types of ink and you can ruin your marker. Be sure your pen is Copic friendly and if you print out an image make sure your printer ink is as well. If it isn't, you can always photod the image
Everyone I see works light to dark, but I find that if I work dark to light I save ink because I don't have to lay down a flat smooth color initially. Usually though, I work mid to dark to light, if that makes sense.
i Bought me 50 Copics in last 16 month and now i am totally in love with aquarell and wanna sell my copics. I never felt totally in love with markers in general ^^ Thanks for your lovely videos !
Soo cuuute! Loove heer! I have to say too that I also love the Carte family here in the comments, I am never afraid to say something and it's just warm love going on so thank you commenters reading this! ♡
I just started using Copic Markers! I never dabbled into color until recently. I do more realistic pieces with pencil. In the last 3months I’ve been teaching myself how to use color with different types of tools. Looking forward in investing in the complete set within the next 3 months or so.
In 4 days I'm getting my first set of 14 copics and some money to buy a set of 80 other alcohol based markers and I'm so excited!! Thank you so much for the tips! ♡
Onto the appropriate paper and color it that way. My old inkjet printer was NOT Copic friendly, but the one I just recently purchased is. I believe all laser printer inks are (although don't quote me on that)! I hope some of this info helps those starting out. Thanks for your wonderful videos and I am glad to hear you are offering coloring sheets each month, I will pop over to Etsy to check them out,
For better blending is better to do a zigzag from light to dark. I mean if you have 5 colors in which 1 is the lightest the order for a perfect blending should be 1,2,3,2,4,3,5,4 and so on... Hope my tip helps. Good luck 🍀 and happy new years
I started with copics years ago. Used them for 1 year maybe. Then I switched to digital painting, bought a Cintiq and never looked back. You can do so much more with digital art.
Wow your coloring is awesome wish I could do that ready to throw them away but now I see it might be the paper will give it another try thank you so much for all your help
Hello random person scrolling through these lost comments. This comment will Get lost, but I'm happy you found it. I only wanted to say that you're a great person, and no one should tell you otherwise. If you are gong through tough times right now, I know you can kick them down. And if your life is great, live it while you can, with all you can, because we all have our time here. This message was handwritten and not copied, and from a real person, just like you. ❤️
That's so sweet of you to actually take the time to write such a kind comment! I'm sure I'm not the only person that smiled while reading this...! Same goes to you as well, you are clearly a kind and thoughtful person with a great choice of profile pics ;P Have a great day! ♥
Paper that I recommend and use often with Copics is recycled sugar cane paper. I’m telling you guys, it’s great. It’s nice and smooth and it doesn’t bleed very much at all. Best of all, it’s hella cheap and comes in sketchbooks. I can usually find it easily here but I don’t how common it is in America.
Grace Price That’s true. This video is more if you want a certain effect, though. There’s lots of ways to colour with Copics. For example, I start off with the light shade, then I add the dark shade, then I use a medium shade to blend them together. It’s all good.
I love Copic markers. personally, for blending and different color tones when I don't have the colors at hand, I'll use Prismacolor pencils to build on shading and adding layers to the drawing, I actually love the fact that they were really well together as a whole, both products. I also use Winsor and Newton markers. I had gotten a mixed media (cardstock) sketchbook however rn I'm using a regular sketchbook and so far the drawings look really nice with the Copics. I don't do prints and stuff since I'm broke xD but things look so nice and well done. For a beginner, I'm really happy with the outcome of my work c:
Amazing video! Also for anyone who can't afford Copic markers a good alternative is Winsor & Newton markers. They are cheeper than Copic markers and they work pretty similar to Copic.
IKR I don't have a UA-cam channel but I get so much hate at school ( -_- wow so i make a picture u couldn't make even when UR 20 and u gimme me hate when I'm 11??!?!)
Same with me😒😒what the heck,I went to blick and I asked where are the markers and she took me to crayola.I said the acahol markers and she said I'm too young and I said I'm older than 10!!!(I'm short so ya)
Also, the upfront cost is extremely expensive especially buying the actual Copic Pens. The refills cost $8 however, the refill package will refill the pen about 4-8 times.
just got my first set today......... set of 32....... i've had a few running around the house, but have not really played with them cause didn't have anything to really blend, but now that i have 32-40 total i think i can do a little bit of blending....... i'm thinking of adding 2-3 a month....... or more LOL....... slowly build up a collection........ hope i can manage to color as well as you.
Carol Berquist Chameleon markers are better, but more expensive, and also, they have a feature that other markers dont, that is the blender barrel, if you put the nib absorbing the blender ink, you can create full shades of the same color using only one marker! Thats linda cool if you ask me, but they are hella expensive
I just got my first set of Copic markers a few days ago. I got them on Amazon and it was a set of 12 Sketch Copic for $65. I thought that was a pretty good deal and I love the brush tip end! I've been holding out on buying these markers for like 15 years and kept buying other medium-good brands for my basic crafting needs, but now that I'm all adult-ish I figured I'd go for the good stuff lol. I'm REALLY glad I did and I can't believe how much nicer they are than other markers...I guess ppl really do make a big deal over them for a reason lol. I can tell already that I'll need more colors than the 12 that came in the set.
Do you have a video talking about what copic markers to get when first starting your collection? An example being if you can only get 2 of each color for blending what 2 best complement each other? Along those lines? Like what 2 pinks, blues, greens ect.? I hope that makes since lol I love your videos and all that you teach!!
you should release your coloring pages at the end of this video for the next video that way people can buy it and get it and then color along with you as they watch your video
Guys!!! I use this really cheap alternative to Copics. I use Artist Loft and they work great! They have a chisel and a brush tip and they are only $3-4 a marker!!

Holy crap im soo jealous
Me too
my friend has like 24 copics and she doesn't even draw or use them anymore and I really want them but I feel rude asking for them :/
I have the same problem, and she says her grandparents just buy them for her.
Neno Jaz omg that's so annoying

Megan Pickering That's a good tip, I do this as well.
Great tip! Copic beginners must see this comment :D
I started using Copic markers recently and I'm hooked! They are definitely worth the money! Right now I only have 17 markers but that will rapidly change in the future. X3
oh yes it does change... I use to have spending money... now I just have new copics... :)
XD
I have 6... LoL
+Rachel A. Hall I have no copic markers
Awe don't fret, I wanted them for years before I was able to buy them.

Wow, I didn't know that copics shift color!
Kristen K Scan?
Star Fire scan, photocopy, xerox, color copy, upload and print - those will be the only way to ensure the same color over time.
Aren't Copic Markers alcohol based though?
It has nothing to do with Copics being everywhere...What Kristen K means means is the the your original piece of art work-that you worked so hard on and you are so proud of-will fade over time unless it is kept out of light...in other words your original piece, if kept out in the open, will slowly fade away so that the only thing left will be the paper you started with. I thought would add in since nobody seems to say this, if you color regular pencil with copics you wont be able to erase I learned the hard way
When I started to use Copics, I wish I knew that I would also need a specific type of paper, that the color blending/shading looks a lot rougher up close than on a UA-cam video, that it's a stupid idea to buy 6 of them at full price from Micheal's, and that it won't, on its own, make me color like a pro.

Sure does! Each artist find the way that works best for them, that is a great thing about creating art! Thanks for sharing your way! :)
She kinda reminds me of Madoka Magica
+Lacey Riles OMG I WAS JUST THINKING THAT! Like especially the dress!
Exactly! the dress is what really made that thought stand out to me lol
Lacey Riles that was the first thing I thought of when I saw this video XD
Lacey Riles Is it the dress huh? Cuz the hair reminds me too much

I've just started with Copics so I was given 36. I actually love them. So this video was great!
I wish I had money for copics...
Can NOT agree
that's why we sell our kneecaps for them...
I wish I'm already pro at copics

when you say that there is no right or wrong way to use copics, it kinda reminded me of Bob Ross and that got me hooked omg

Right way to use copics is
Colour the way you want to
Wrong way to use copics
Colour the way others want you to
The most stupid thing ever. There are amateurs and professional.

U are soooo awesome and also ur drawings!!!
Aw thanks!

Amazing video! Also for anyone who can't afford Copic markers a good alternative is Winsor & Newton markers. They are cheeper than Copic markers and they work pretty similar to Copic.
I recommend using Promarker and Touch/touchtwin when beginning, if you don't want to commit to Copic
your my favourite artist ever
Nice!!!! i use copics too but i get hate since i'm so young.
I do digital art but young artist aren't really appreciated neither do young artist sell a lot unless their a prodigy😐
IKR I don't have a UA-cam channel but I get so much hate at school ( -_- wow so i make a picture u couldn't make even when UR 20 and u gimme me hate when I'm 11??!?!)
it dosn't matter how young you are as long as you practice and practice and practice you can make beautiful artwork
Same with me😒😒what the heck,I went to blick and I asked where are the markers and she took me to crayola.I said the acahol markers and she said I'm too young and I said I'm older than 10!!!(I'm short so ya)
+Ariana Khan same
Thank you so much I just got Copic markers and his helped alot
This drawing is sooo cute!😍😍😍
I only have 72 they are very good my favourites are Rv11,Rv09,R02,c3,c5,Y15,B01,B32,R08,B34
Absolutely stunning!! 💕
Very cute! If you draw more of this chibi girl, may I suggest her friends to be: a pet mouse or rat, a kitten, a puppy, or a little fish in a bowl.
WOW!! THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!
She looks kinda like strawberry shortcake :)
This drawing is soooo adorable! 💕💕
Thanks! :)
I have the blick brush markers, I highly recommend them. Great quality and they're a fraction of the price of copics.
Your voice is like Bob Ross's , it makes me happy!☺
Bristol paper, I believe is good for markers. Always buy heavyweight paper for ink and paint though, 90+ ibs paper is best for those mediums
since in my country i can't really buy copic markers i just buy whatever alcohol based markers i can find , and they work pretty well
I am on a search for a new printer and was wondering which one you use, since you mentioned it worked well with your copics. thanks
im a early bird xD OMG THIS IS KAWWI ❤.❤ 😍😍😍 im a Manga artist so this is probably 1 of my favourite drawings of urs
Thanks! I really like her too! :)
How do Copics compare with Chameleon markers/pens?
It’s like Pokémon. Once you get one ya gotta catch em all!
Art ala Carte omg I'm so going to be broke lol
Hence the term, starving artist. Lol
she colors beautifully
What kind of paper are you using?
Amazing piece!
Your art videos are SOOOOOO helpful! Idk why I haven't subbed yet! WELL, HERES YOUR SUB! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
+jndoan nguyen woohoo!!! Thanks
This is very helpful! I got my first Copic markers earlier today (yesterday now) and I want to gain a bit of an idea as to what I’m doing haha
You are a lovely artist...I just wanted to share that!
you cool I love your videos I learn a lot from them and I've learned a lot about shading it's really cool nice work
i am just started useing copics and i think the brush nib is kinda hard controling but they are so good😍
For a cheaper alternative you can use Touch markers. I use them and they are really good
Well, you're a great Coptic artist now! Please, can you do a video on how to draw a cartoon lion or tiger?
Do you have a video talking about what copic markers to get when first starting your collection? An example being if you can only get 2 of each color for blending what 2 best complement each other? Along those lines? Like what 2 pinks, blues, greens ect.? I hope that makes since lol I love your videos and all that you teach!!
I LOVE YOU SO MUCH YOU ARE MY FAVORITE ARTIST
you should release your coloring pages at the end of this video for the next video that way people can buy it and get it and then color along with you as they watch your video
Guys!!! I use this really cheap alternative to Copics. I use Artist Loft and they work great! They have a chisel and a brush tip and they are only $3-4 a marker!!
Water coloured pencils+copic= amazing
It's almost my birthday and I'm getting a pack of 24 Copic markers I'm so excited
have fun!
Aww, I want to color this cutie!
This is so satisfyinggggggg
I use copics like water colors by laying the colors then brushing on colorless blender!
I find that micron fineliners work best with alcohol markers (considering I don't have copics I have touch five) but they don't smear and it's pretty good. I'm thinking with copics it wouldn't be any different. I'm thinking of getting a couple copics, but they are expensive, because touch five is only like a dollar or less. What is the best place to get copics?
A nice alternative is Prismacolor Premier, but I use 3 different kinds: Prismacolors, Copics, & Promarkers, they're all great markers to use. ;3
Alli that's what I use. Prisma, Copics, and the Winsor & Newton brand
AWESOME JOB💞💞💞
teach me senpai!!
i love your drawings❤
I'm late in the game, but thank you so much for this video!
I got 36 for $86.77 and some other individual ones which costed up to $260.00 I honestly never thought that I would be able to use them because they were so expensive but I saved up money and its totally worth it! XD
Thank u for this info. Very helpful
thanks for the great video
Cute pic! Is it weird that I mostly just like hearing you say "copic"? Fun word! :)
