    My friend just gave me all of his copics.. So grateful to him. He gave me somewhere around fifty markers for free with amazing color variation. This was very helpful!! Thank you as always!

    Just a little tip with what I've experienced with alcohol markers (and no not just copics) is that they all work together because they all use alcohol inks, so if you can't afford a load of colours in one go, you can get maybe one or two copics and then bulk out your collection with cheaper brands that use similar inks, that way you can still practice and blend colours before you need to splurge out on all of the colours that copic has to offer. Hope this helps! love your work Valerie and love this piece! So cute!

    I started using Copic markers recently and I'm hooked! They are definitely worth the money! Right now I only have 17 markers but that will rapidly change in the future. X3

    Cool video. I saw you asked for our best tips for Copic coloring! My biggest tip for using Copics is this: Work rather quickly when laying down a single color as to prevent patchiness! If you lay a color on top of ink in that color that is already dry, the strokes will darken where they overlap. If you color a section quickly, while the ink is still fresh and not-yet-absorbed into the paper, you can avoid that!

  • @kristenk1995
    @kristenk1995 8 років тому +31

    If people are having difficulty finding Copic markers another artist quality marker is the ShinHan Touch Twin marker. Also Copic is a dye based ink so you want to scan your finished work as it will color shift over time.

      Star Fire scan, photocopy, xerox, color copy, upload and print - those will be the only way to ensure the same color over time.

      Aren't Copic Markers alcohol based though?

    • @ImaSpeck2011
      @ImaSpeck2011 7 років тому +1

      It has nothing to do with Copics being everywhere...What Kristen K means means is the the your original piece of art work-that you worked so hard on and you are so proud of-will fade over time unless it is kept out of light...in other words your original piece, if kept out in the open, will slowly fade away so that the only thing left will be the paper you started with. So photocopy your piece for others to see and put the original away out of light...who knows someday the original may be worth millions!

    I thought would add in since nobody seems to say this, if you color regular pencil with copics you wont be able to erase I learned the hard way

    When I started to use Copics, I wish I knew that I would also need a specific type of paper, that the color blending/shading looks a lot rougher up close than on a UA-cam video, that it's a stupid idea to buy 6 of them at full price from Micheal's, and that it won't, on its own, make me color like a pro.

    Val, I have been using Copics for about 5-6 years and I'm glad you mentioned paper first. I almost exclusively use Neenah solar white 80 or 100lb. Cardstock because for me, that works the best with Copics. There are other papers that work well too, but you can't just expect a Copic to blend on any old paper, which you pointed out very well. I know people complain that Copics are so expensive, but honestly you will own your marker for life, so the investment really isn't high when you consider that fact. Many other markers are not refillable, or you can replace the nibs, etc... as you can with Copics. They are certainly and investment, but a worthwhile one. You must be very careful both printing out your work on a printer or using pens with Copics because they do not play well with many types of ink and you can ruin your marker. Be sure your pen is Copic friendly and if you print out an image make sure your printer ink is as well. If it isn't, you can always photod the image

    Everyone I see works light to dark, but I find that if I work dark to light I save ink because I don't have to lay down a flat smooth color initially. Usually though, I work mid to dark to light, if that makes sense.

    For better blending is better to do a zigzag from light to dark. I mean if you have 5 colors in which 1 is the lightest the order for a perfect blending should be 1,2,3,2,4,3,5,4 and so on... Hope my tip helps. Good luck 🍀 and happy new years

    Paper that I recommend and use often with Copics is recycled sugar cane paper. I’m telling you guys, it’s great. It’s nice and smooth and it doesn’t bleed very much at all. Best of all, it’s hella cheap and comes in sketchbooks. I can usually find it easily here but I don’t how common it is in America.

      Grace Price That’s true. This video is more if you want a certain effect, though. There’s lots of ways to colour with Copics. For example, I start off with the light shade, then I add the dark shade, then I use a medium shade to blend them together. It’s all good.

  • @JessieStyles1
    @JessieStyles1 7 років тому

    I love Copic markers. personally, for blending and different color tones when I don't have the colors at hand, I'll use Prismacolor pencils to build on shading and adding layers to the drawing, I actually love the fact that they were really well together as a whole, both products. I also use Winsor and Newton markers. I had gotten a mixed media (cardstock) sketchbook however rn I'm using a regular sketchbook and so far the drawings look really nice with the Copics. I don't do prints and stuff since I'm broke xD but things look so nice and well done. For a beginner, I'm really happy with the outcome of my work c:

    • @felipebello8488
      @felipebello8488 7 років тому +2

      Carol Berquist Chameleon markers are better, but more expensive, and also, they have a feature that other markers dont, that is the blender barrel, if you put the nib absorbing the blender ink, you can create full shades of the same color using only one marker!
      Thats linda cool if you ask me, but they are hella expensive

    I just got my first set of Copic markers a few days ago. I got them on Amazon and it was a set of 12 Sketch Copic for $65. I thought that was a pretty good deal and I love the brush tip end! I've been holding out on buying these markers for like 15 years and kept buying other medium-good brands for my basic crafting needs, but now that I'm all adult-ish I figured I'd go for the good stuff lol. I'm REALLY glad I did and I can't believe how much nicer they are than other markers...I guess ppl really do make a big deal over them for a reason lol. I can tell already that I'll need more colors than the 12 that came in the set.

    Well, you're a great Coptic artist now! Please, can you do a video on how to draw a cartoon lion or tiger?

    Do you have a video talking about what copic markers to get when first starting your collection? An example being if you can only get 2 of each color for blending what 2 best complement each other? Along those lines? Like what 2 pinks,blues,greens ect.? I hope that makes since lol I love your videos and all that you teach!!

    Guys!!! I use this really cheap alternative to Copics. I use Artist Loft and they work great! They have a chisel and a brush tip and they are only $3-4 a marker!!

    I use copics like water colors by laying the colors then brushing on colorless blender!

    I find that micron fineliners work best with alcohol markers (considering I don't have copics I have touch five) but they don't smear and it's pretty good. I'm thinking with copics it wouldn't be any different. I'm thinking of getting a couple copics, but they are expensive, because touch five is only like a dollar or less. What is the best place to get copics?

    A nice alternative is Prismacolor Premier, but I use 3 different kinds: Prismacolors, Copics, & Promarkers, they're all great markers to use. ;3
