I am blown away by how far you’ve come! You are strong & comfortable in front of the camera! Well- done you!!!
I substituted the vermicelli noodles with oatmeal (or porridge oats as their know in the UK), it was the best breakfast I’ve ever had. I will never look down my nose at oatmeal ever again. Thank you Nadia!
I'm gonna try this!
Sounds good! I felt confused by the noodles but i can really picture it with oays
It's a bit strange that Nadiya never mentions the name of the dish that she is customising - this is Shemay. Also the omission of some background info on Shemay seems odd too, since it doesn't frequently get highlighted outside of the continent. Shemay isn't exactly traditionally eaten like porridge. People do have it for breakfast sometimes, often accompanied with some bread. It's also often served as dessert after meals, or as a snack to accompany your afternoon tea (or when you serve tea to any guests in your house).
spique32 Thanks for the info 😊
Bengali squad
Yeah I got confused too, this looks like payasam where I'm from.
Yes i agree some of her dishes are made out to be her own or her mums recipe when in fact its traditional bengali dish it would be good to give credit where its due and celebrate our culture and introduce to other viewers in such a manner
There are lots of different variation of vermicelli all throughout the world and even though I grew up eating vermicelli it's nowhere near close to what she was cooking.
It looks like the coconut version of Kheer / Payasam in India, which are milk based. Good variation, though!
In Bangladesh, what you're calling Payasam is known as Payesh/kheer. We infact have Firni ( which is quite similar to Payesh). But what she's making is known as Shaymai.
In South India, we do have a version of payasam with coconut milk.
Otherwise
My Bangladeshi neighbours made us this once. It was delicious :)
It’s a celebratory dish for us (my old family in the Punjab), we have it at Eid.and wedding celebrations. - using milk, cardamon, sugar, butter, shopped nuts on top, sometimes a few sultanas. It takes hours for the 4-5 pints of milk to condense down... I’ll try it your way, it looks heavenly, and I love coconut.
Same for us in Trinidad. We call it sawine.
I'm sure I would love this. I already love Chai tea. How could I go wrong with this.
Chai means tea. So it's either chai or just tea, not chai tea. 😊
The same person who said that bangladesh doesn't traditionally have desserts is now making shemay/seviyan but calling it porridge 😂😂🤦🏻♀️
Well in Pakistan we call it Sher Khurma
After toasting noodles(wheat based/hand-made),I cook it first in little bit water followed by condensed milk.I add a lot of almonds raisins, sometimes dates but less sugar .
I adore this woman. She has really matured and is SO good at presenting. Well done! Love from South Africa
This is the classic shemai, only a coconut version. Trust me original version with clarified ghee tastes hella better.
Interesting! I DO love Chai tea ☕️ might have to try this one day soon
This is a really popular dish in South Asia and there’s different variations. Tbh I would recommend you use ghee or vegetable ghee instead of coconut oil.
That looks delicious 😋
muslims call that sawine! in trinidad they make it for eid! the entire country makes it!!
The video is cool
First
So I am your fan
Looks good, why does she fake try it at the end though?
I noticed that also.
This is Pakistan's dessert .
Will it matter if I use coconut milk/water instead of cream?
We use normal milk
Coconut water wouldn't work, but canned coconut milk is just coconut cream with less fat, in my experience-- sometimes the fat even separates at the top of the can. Coconut milk in a tetra pak will probably still taste good, but will be more expensive, and the ingredients vary by brand.
Iam looking for the safron prawn Biryani and samosa pie recipes by Nadiya ...
Can't seem to find it anymore on UA-cam. Can someone help

Hi. I am a fan
Very nice looks Amazing
I'm sure tastes so good
Making feel hungry❤👏👏👏
Sounds absolutely delicious!!
Too much sweet
WE understand
In bengali it is called simai.
This one's a more sabotaged version of our shemai unfortunately 😔
Looks yum!
Amazing !
Very sweet lady
That fake mouthful at the end 😂
In almost every video she makes, she properly eats the food at the end. The people editing the video probably did a couple takes and then used a different cut for the end. I love that she has such passion for her cooking and she's not afraid to eat it!
BellaVida oh I agree totally. I just caught it and it made me laugh. Not hating!
Mmmmm. Looks yummy. I must make some. :)
This dish was even in my USSR childhood 30 years ago (but without cocnut and with whole milk and butter) . Wow, BBC, that was confusing.
How us that confusing? People who think they can cook usually follow a recipe to the T without any variation. True chefs are not afraid to switch it up and take risks.
I can the entire pan of noodles. I’ll substitute sugar with a little honey.
why she calling sewayein, porridge?? 😭
This is an Indian dessert..we don't have this for breakfast and yeah we also add a bit of cinnamon
People can have pizza for breakfast and pancakes for dinner so why can't someone have this whenever they want? Who are you to dictate how a dish should be made. If you are such an expert, where is your cooking show? Thanks and bye.
Lol, wow I think the only psycho here is you. Calm down before you collapse from high bp.
@@bellavida7129 aww get well soon psycho.. you need some love in your life. 😘
Shreya P lol I have all the love I need, so much so that I don’t need to call someone derogatory names to make myself feel better. Take care.
In Bangladesh we have those for dessert
She didn't even have anything on the spoon
Vegan!
She is not a vegan. Get educated.
@@bellavida7129 was referring to the dish she's making, which is in fact vegan, but thanks for the recommendation all the same - I will definitely get educated!
Omg I’m sooo sorry, I thought you were making a sarcastic comment(was already on a rant after reading some truly horrible comments on here about Nadiya who I love) super sorry again for being so rude and making an assumption!
Looks like payasm....
Yes it is payesh (the bengali pronunciation) made with coconut milk and simai (vermicelli ).
The magenta brown notablely laugh because forest early pat minus a grumpy crib. actually, numberless aquarius
Fat, sugar and carbohydrates and no vitimines. That's about as unhealthy a way to start kids off as I can imagine. Feed them a diet like that often and you're kids will end up obese and sickly.
Dr. Harmonica No one's feeding this to their kids every day, especially not for breakfast.
oabuseer I suppose it's no worse than the topically overly sugar-laden carbohydrate breakfast cereal that many parents poison their children with in the U.S. every morning.
It's not be consumed as a meal (lunch/dinner) in itself. It's to be eaten as a desert or a snack.
A destroyed vermicelli recipe 😔
I can clearly see that. What kind of a dum person adds milk tea/chai into vermicilli?
Afsara Mehrin maybe she likes it that way relax
I had labelling things for white people. Why call it chai vermicilli
Wtf, this is basically a crappy version of Shemai
Jacob Sed It's been adapted for a British audience. No need to hate
@@oabuseer Don't open your mouth if you don't have anything relevant to say! I've seen you going around and attacking people in their comment sections who are speaking up against this CoCoNut. Nadiya's a disgrace to both British cooking as well as Bangladeshi cooking and she's going around and giving the British public sooo many misinformation about Bangladeshi cuisine! And that, isn't even a proper way to cook vermicilli (shemai)! Here in Bangladesh, we NEVER ever add milk tea/chai into it and we don't eat it as a "porridge". She has clearly sabotaged what we call here, a popular dessert eaten around Eid time every year!!! Everytime this woman's mouth opens up, she keeps giving negative comments about Bangladesh and Bangladeshi cuisine. She did say horrible stuff like "Bangladeshis don't eat on chairs and tables" and "there are no desserts in Bangladeshi cuisine". And more recently... she has also said disgusting stuff about the Bangladeshi identity while opening up about how she got sexually harassed as a teenager. This woman suffers from identity disorder and sees herself as a "white" person rather than someone with color. How can you say this has been "adapted" for the British audience? She's giving the British public wrong information about Bangladeshi cuisine and misguiding them to think that this so-called "recipe" of hers is from her ancestral home but it isn't. Vermicilli (shemai) is meant to be an authentic Eid dessert we Bangladeshis are associated with, not an everyday breakfast item with such an odd ingredient like milk tea (chai).
@@afsaramehrin2993 Where on Earth have I been attacking people? How have you got so upset from me making polite comments? Are you that angry about a dessert recipe on UA-cam that you had to write a short novel about it? Please don't take life so seriously my friend, and please don't be so rude about people you do not know. Have a lovely day.
Omg how many tablespoons of sugar.. an open invitation to diabetes..
Too much sugar and carbohydrates for any one for breakfast. Very unhealthy.
Already saw another one of your comments here basically stating the same exact thing. Why feel the need to comment if you don't like it. This is a food show, not a health and diet show. Do you eat leaves and twigs? Take your judgment elsewhere.
