He's really the ultimate performer. He can do it all: piano, singing, and comedy. One of the wittiest alive. Well this song is one of my favorites and so underrated. To listen to him, speak of those piano icons of New Orleans. He's right there among them! He's brilliant and he is fantastic!

You've expressed yourself so wonderfully as far as your feelings for Elton. I feel the same way!! It makes me so happy when I see someone recognize him so much - because I love him SO SO VERY MUCH, myself. Be well, stay safe, and carry on with your love for Elton!!!

This was one of the few live versions of this song I have heard and I agree that it is a fantastic song and very underrated. It wss never a single and yet I like it more than any of the singles from the album.
Elton has now retired from live performing more or less but my gripe for mostvof his live shows is that he seemed to ignore all of his great songs from the 80s and 90s. I only like a handful of his 70s songs but love most of his later material. This song is a prime example of an ignored gem as well as hits like Believe, Healing Hands, I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That, The One, Made in England, Recover Your Soul and so many others. Thankfully you can find some rare live performances on UA-cam.

I've known this song ever since the album came out in '97, but funnily enough I've only just realised how beautiful it is. I think this performance helped to hightlight the poignancy of the lyrics. Thanks for posting :)

Thank you so much for uploading, Jeydee! This is so rare! I simply love this song and this is the only video I'm aware of in which he sings it. :) Five stars! :)

Josimar Maia do you want me to write what funny things he says at the beginning of this video so that you use Google to translate it? (Is that what you mean?)

+Harmony&Me - Stacie P Only one fact of past. I've heard an interview where elton speaks somenthing funny and David Letterman completed figured to my understanding: "If I get up phone I call the police" and auditorium laughts.. And the boy here space out..

    👏👏👏
    I guess, you're okay
You seem to feel better these days
I've known you for so long
I've seen your brightness go from blue to grey
    You know that is true
You can shake your head but I can prove
I've seen things through your eyes
You think you win but in the end you lose
    And there's no second guess
    We take no second bets
Chances are we're a long way from happiness
Don't cover up the road to love
    With words that can't express
The truth implies you're high and dry
And you're a long way from happiness
    I'm one step behind
Looking out for you all the time
I'll put my faith in you
And steer you clear of love that leaves you blind
    And there's no second guess
    We take no second bets
Chances are we're a long way from happiness
Don't cover up the road to love
    With words that can't express
The truth implies you're high and dry
And you're a long way from happiness
    And there's no second guess
    We take no second bets
Chances are we're a long way from happiness
Don't cover up the road to love
    With words that can't express
The truth implies you're high and dry
And you're a long way from happy
You're a long way from happy
You're a long way from happiness
