Hello Blaine. I hope you see this comment. Back in the early 80's (84 or 85), me and a couple of my band mates saw Tuxedomoon perform at the Club Lingerie in Los Angeles. The show was only lightly attended, and it was obvious that you, Steve and Peter were disheartened at the turnout. This would have been just after Tuxedomoon had released all of the classic EP's and LP's recorded in England, Holland and Belgium. Regardless, having seen countless performances, in my life, that show was the greatest music performance I have ever experienced. As I mentioned, it was just the core (Brown, Reininger, Principle). Peter stood motionless smoking a cigarette, playing his bass lines with perfection, while you and Steve wove your intricate and beautiful melodies. I figure that, in your mind, if you remember that show at all, that you remember it as a disappointment based on the lack of audience. But for the few of us that were there, I just wanted to let you know, that show was seriously the greatest! Love your music always, thanks for the inspiration and best regards!
The originality and talent of this artist are beyond words. A real musician, a gifted actor (both in films and performance) and an iconic member of one of the most unique bands of our century. Belonging nowhere made him what he is. And that is irreplaceable.
Thanks for saying it so succinctly, Mr. Reininger - feeling like a stranger no matter where you are. Some days I feel I am most familiar and at home when listening to the music of Tuxedomoon!
Saw you in San Francisco in the 80's... so amazing! Half Mute was one of the first albums I bought for myself as a poor kid & I listened to it over and over. The performance art scene in SF was so cool then, a magical placetime where art really mattered and we were all doing it!
I respect you and appreciate you Mr. Reininger. I am 52 years old and starting to see from another angle on life. Now you understand more. Thanks for the spiritual food that I've gotten from you. Amazing documentary.I have this from 1988.
I used to listen to this guy's music in the 80s through factory records, factory benelux.les discs du crepescule. I still listen to the song Windy Outside because I love it. I love this guy's honesty and generosity of spirit. I enjoyed this documentary it gives me some background to the music. I love the ideas he had from the beginning. Great underground artist. A guy who went beyond the billboard at the edge of town.
I was in Palas theater in 1987, the first of the two gigs Tuxedomoon gave in one night. First gig at 19:30, second at 22:00. I will always regret i didn't remain in the theater to watch for a second time one of the best live shows i 've ever seen! Tuxedomoon was already well known in Greece since 1984 (myself i met with their music on 1985 through a cassete a friend gave me with Ship of Fools material. Thank you for all the great music Blaine, you will never be a xenos to me and many people here in Greece!
Thank you Blaine: Your candor in writing, composing music, performance with the violin, etc. have inspired me to embrace gratitude,open-mindedness, and persevere. I hope you continue to realize tranquility .
Blaine - thanks for telling your story. I've just been transported for xxx minutes. Your music just keeps enchanting. Today I received 'Blue Velvet Revisited' (wonderful CD) and Isabelle Corbisier's biography of the band, which I'll be immersing myself in. It's been a splendid TM day - decades after I first heard 'Half Mute' on FM radio in Australia and it influenced my creative life. Keep musicking!
So happy I stumbled across this! Amazingly open and honest doc. Been a fan of TM and BLG for many years now but seen very little footage, so this was a sheer joy!
Nice. I was a big fan of the '80's Tuxedomoon Ralph/Crepescule stuff. But I followed Blaine when he left, as I thought he and Steven Brown were the heart of the band. I just bought Night Air & Broken Fingers on CD (yes, I want to GIVE Blaine my appreciation in a PURCHASE). It is the first time I've had it since a tape from vinyl in '83 (sorry- both albums). I must say- I love it as much as I did then!! Blaine has an amazing voice to go with his first rate songs. He captures the feeling of a stranger abroad. I will be checking out the rest of his work. (Can't say why I fell out of following him & Tuxedomoon- stuff just happens!!). But I can't wait to play it for my friends. This doc was fun to see the man behind the music. Desire, Half-Mute and Blaine & Steven's work had a big impact on me as a young musician in the early '80s. I was lucky I found them. Would have loved to hear about working with Gareth Jones on Night Air before he was known to the musical community! Thanks Blaine!!
I had not seen this before. The bit about expat Americans and the weight that is lightened was really poignant and I can really relate after returning to the USA after eight years abroad.
Someone..Please! What is the track that starts at 39:00? Tried to google the lyrics to no avail. Soo good! Blaine, (if you are reading) you continue to inspire me greatly throughout the years, and Tuxedomoon is one of my all time fav bands. I didn't know you were from Pueblo! Im from Carbondale, Colorado and also moved to SF (although much later than you) to pursue experimental music and media. This documentary was seriously excellent! Thank you.
Hi Blaine, I love your work! One small question: what's that song playing at 39:10? Is it tuxedomoon work or something solo? I hope to see you in Zagreb again.
***** I'm confused... it's not the East i know, and its not the youtubely findable East - are there 2 Easts? :) how can i find it, this from 39:00? it's stunning! ♥
When I think of true alternative music, I think of Tuxedomoon - be it the group or its respective members each, to the present day never betraying their own artistic/creative principles. Sadly as of 2019, Monsieurs Geduldig and Principle are no longer with us. :(
I know you from a long time, tuxedomoon years, you´re a great talent, but we just need to convert ourselfs to our Lord Jesus Christ there is´s our final peace. If you can, go to Medjugorje in Bosnia, There is what we´re looking for...
Thank you Blaine for all the music over the years! I heard this totally mind-blowing song on Houston's KPFT late one night in 80 or 81. I had to call the station the next day to find the name of it. It was What Use and I became a fan from then on. I love each and every release and am always surprised and delighted to hear where your musical wings are stretching to next.
