Girl after my own heart Laura - can't see the sea without going for a swim that's my motto - great little vid this Juliet - well done and youve inspired me to go ride it myself - cheers
Well done guys completing the SDW. My local trail. Laura smiling all the way to the end and a swim despite having bike woes! Epic. The SDW is quite punishing as there are lots of f climbs out of valleys and the path is littered with flinty / chalky rocks and little ravines to knock you off your pace. Slippery and sketchy if it’s wet on the fast descents. All the pubs and cafes are off the hill so you have a steep climb back up. That’s probably why doing it all in one day or staying in a BnB works so you can travel as light as possible. Great views especially swooping down into Eastbourne at the end feels like flying!!
Really enjoyable to watch. Brings back recent memories on the SDW. I had a broken gear cable and thought the trip was over but, being a hub, I could still change up with the second cable and then dismount to pull the snapped cable at the hub to give me first gear at the base of climbs. Definitely a (scenic) mini-epic...Well done! 🛩"Swooping down into Eastbourne at the end fells like flying".
Hi Juliet, saw you getting off the ferry at Dittisham today. Really didn’t expect to bump into a UA-cam celebrity at such a random place ! Wish had the presence of mind to say, thanks for all your content. Love it.
I'm going to be doing similar in spring, 2 nights camping along the way. I am considering riding the whole thing in 1 day back to my van in Winchester, but will see. A couple of my friends have done the double and ridden from Winchester to Eastbourne and back to Winchester in one ride!! They were broken
Back in the 90's my brother and I packed our bikes in Canada and headed to Ireland. We rode a lot of stuff like this. No phones/GPS etc. Lots of maps bought in each area. Also, the bikes were...well from the early 90's. Fantastic adventure for us.
@@JulietElliottsChannel I will 😃. I have a suitable bike that'll take a bit of luggage and have recently started biking again. It's on for next spring/summer! Thanks for the inspiration 👍

Laura🧭; Better at cakes and pastry review, probably Juliet 🍰; The most fearless swimmer is Laura 🌊; And all the joy and the comforting smiles came from the both of you two together!! 😄😊 🌞
Good effort I tried to ride in a day on an old mountain bike with a rucksack on my back, it was damp and I crashed twice on super sloppy chalk, once into nettles, eventually ran out of daylight around 55 miles in. I went to this pub ordered a large glass of red wine, and called international rescue. I was surprised how many hills there were so unfinished business but cracking scenery and I will be back, glad you both made it and you were still smiling
We did the SDW in 3 days a few years ago and it is definitely hard work. When we did it the SDW the ultra run was on, the winning time was 14 hours! Great video, recognised where you camped on the second night.
Brilliant🤩 A bit of everything I like about cycling, friends having fun. Loved the comment about Laura being as good at navigation as you Juliet😊👍 The look she gave was hilarious 🤩👌👍 Thank you for sharing🤩👍
Great video Juliet. Tried to do in one a few years back but weather was biblical!! Then did a much better over two days, stopping at Truleigh hill youth hostel (where you got the pizza!). Hopefully this year fitness pending I may try again for the one in good weather. Only just started wild camping and love it! Well done on a great vid.
Looks like you had a great time! Fun to see you riding through my local section of the SDW, and it looks like you picked a fantastic top-secret wild camping spot for night 2.
Love the content. I can't get my better half to MTB but she watched this with me and even asked me to rewind at the farm food stop. More food content please, as an enticer to get Mrs. H back on the bike.
Really like this style of bikepacking; I’d rather enjoy it than pack the miles in. Another one who’d like to see Laura’s video - I’d like to know how she got ok bivvying two nights in a row, I’ve only ever done one night and condensation has been had enough that I’d not have liked to do a second night without drying sleeping bag etc!
I walked the South downs way from Petersfield to Brighton on Trailwalker a few years ago. There is something like 9000 feet of ascent because several river valleys punctuate the line of hills. The blisters on my feet were so bad the medics were questioning my sanity at the Devils Dyke checkpoint but I did finish it. Now I get tingling feet every time something reminds me of the experience - but it is a beautiful route and well worth doing whether on bikes or on foot.
Love this! What a fun trip! When you said: “Laura and I have got quite different bike set ups to do this ride”…I half expected you to cut to you on a ladies shopper with basket and Laura on a Penny farthing..! Can you imagine…?! 😂 😂
Juliet do you rock a shock seat post on yer gravel bike? Also have some waterbottle cage locations for when you need to carry more water... you've had such wonderful weather... thanx 4 sharing🔆
Hi. This is a bit of a delicate question, but when you wild camp what exactly do you do about calls of nature? I've camped (once) at a campsite, where obviously there are facilities, I've thought about giving wild camping a go, but am not really sure what to do about this.....aside from seeking out an open pub or something with loos, which could entail a significant diversion.
Hey Jules and Laura enjoyed the video! Can i ask i see your helmet has an insect guard is it built in or can the guard be bought seperate like? Thanks x
