@@ArizonaPoet No, you don't get "perks" when your company is a start up and is solidly in the red. He's a billionaire, he wants to fly in his private plane, he should be paying that out of his own pocket until they actually make money or fly commercial like anyone else does. Walmart is one of the largest and most profitable publicly traded companies and doesn't even pay for the pens that corporate officers use in meetings. Very informative video - thanks Paul. Also, congratulations on facilitating the deal between Canoo and Northside! It makes me hopeful that Canoo can focus on delivering its vehicles. Were you able to glean any insights from Canoo as to how they plan to deliver to the UK while you helped faciliate the deal? They are low on cash and don't have a manufacturing line set up at their factory (they are hand-building vehicles). Surely, no UK company would want to work with a company they believe will be unable to deliver/survive. Thanks!

Great idea but they're freaking back investors money. Like Elon Musk work is magic. I wish he'd come out with something like this. A van/ also pickup. I like the pickup. I'll get one of each
two things that are simultaneously great, and troubling. The forward visibility is great - I would just worry about road debris penetrating the passenger cabin. I would prefer a flat screen connected to a forward looking camera, with a reinforced metal front "shield" instead (especially on American roads and roads in the developing world were a stray piece of rebar on the road can make for a very bad day). Also, the drive-by-wire looks like it may induce a video game effect which may take some getting used to - not sure if the steering has any artificially induced feedback to make it feel more connected to the wheels despite DBW. I do love that these vehicles were designed with the second and third owners in mind when it comes to maintenance.
I found that the steering was excellent once I got used to the very short lock to lock. It is very "instant in its response" I did not feel like it was disconnected from the road - quite the opposite!
@@electricvanman Thanks for your evaluation. I hope they find the right partner to finish what they started and go into mass production. I think eventually, every new vehicle will have DBW steering. Many vehicles have had DBW brakes for some time and customers don't even realize. I'm just curious what it feels like when you hit an irregularity in the road while in the middle of a hard corner - normally this gets translated back to the driver via the steering wheel. I was just curious if you noticed any artificial feedback during your test. The Korean's (KIA) in particular are tearing the EV van/small truck picture out of the same book but I would rather buy a product produced in the US if it's competitive. I have a commercial Canoo truck pre-order (which I don't expect to see become available for years - if ever :D)
Nice idea Looks great Good for round town BUT..... 200 hundred ish miles 3 to 4 hours on the road will leave you stranded just when you need to get home This vehicle could be perfect if it was a hybrid. Needs more real world thought 🤔
Yes, I agree. Cuz I got distance to travel and all things hybrid or option of just gas or gas electric I'll be okay with that. Not just electric. I'm not a office worker 9:00 to 5:00 job lol
The average daily mileage here in the UK of a working van is around 80 miles. But somewhere between 100 and 150 miles Will be suffice for at least half of the market. The charging speed is quite high also which means a quick boost of 50 or 75 miles would be perfectly possible in less than 15 minutes.
As stated Round town. With traffic as it is. A 400 mile range would make it a more feasible alternative. Winter driving with heating on would also make things difficult. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but I am a professional van driver, a trip from Leicester to Exeter would be a 2 day trip, not a single day, as of present. Even a trip to London would add hours of charge time to the journey. Thus, a hybrid would work. This vehicle needs more real-world thought. Maybe it should be a Recreational Vehicle. Thanks for the reply Sir 🫡
Great explanation for the older and more conservative crowd that may have been reluctant. 👍🏻 you don’t sound like the usual car industry expert. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you ! I really appreciate the comment. I am simply someone that has been in the industry helping fleets use vans well and now have focused on electric 👍
The concern I would bring up is that with it being that configurable would be parts availability. In the real world, things happen and things get broken and down time is money. As stated it's a concern; I haven't heard it being brought up so I'm mentioning it.
Good questions both. Reality is mid 25 for full UK deployment (or thereabouts) and pricing will come as they understand the changes required for the UK market 👍
Ofcourse that Front Green house demands some attention some nice pots with plants, small Brushes, some may prefer crotchet.. a shelve.. so much room for activities
When are they actually going to bring this to market... Been wanting to buy one, but I'll end up likely doing an Edison drive on an older van bc I can't wait any longer :-/
Stateside my understanding is they are meeting orders from Walmart and USPS and similarly in the UK they will be targeting larger fleet/workhorse orders
Been watching the company for years now. My wife holds stock. If they would put this thing out to the public it would sell like crazy... I think anyway. But it always seems to be another 24-36 months out for sales to the public.
@@RandomlyRich agreed but they need a firm foundation based on simple repetitive specifications in short term or they won’t be able to move to the mass market approach with it’s complexity and cost.
@@electricvanman I love the glass panel that lets you see down through the nose of the cabin. Wouldn’t mind a steering wheel that is actually a wheel though. Sometimes things are a shape for a reason.
Canoo tries too hard to be everything to everyone. They have a real opportunity to get to volume through fleet sales to already established customers, but they have to deliver thousands of vehicles this year instead of dozens.
@@electricvanman Sure, but the Walmart contract has been in place for two years now. They can't keep up this burn rate pitching new products to new markets when they can't deliver on the contracts in hand. I honestly hope they make it because I agree that their product has great potential. They just have to stop this "throw all the ideas against the wall, like spaghetti, and see what sticks" approach. @@electricvanman Having worked with high powered electric motors almost all of my adult life, I can appreciate the instantaneous torque generated by said motors. I don't need a race truck. Four wheel drive and the ability to haul a good load will work for me. Leave the SS monstrosity for others to play with.
Not normally a fan of big electric vehicles because i think less vehicles (or smaller ones) are better in the long run - it's why I'm sad XBUS went bust. However, this looks like it was made really well for the purpose they had in mind - great for tradies, a new gen of white van men, the rest of it. I'm worried that they'll sell it as a vanity pickup, though
The intention is exactly to sell it into the working world and large fleets. Making a difference for drivers that have to really use the vehicle and make the vehicle an extention of the business
Not really a review, more of a long infomercial. It looks great and has done for all the years its been coming. Lets get it here. I think it has loads of potential. Be good to understand the price v competitors. For sure it will be much cheaper to run. Not sure how practical a oblong wheel is weaving down our residential estates, negotiating mini roundabouts and 3 point turns. An easy fix for them if it's not practical though.
At this stage it has to be that! We can’t drive it out in the real world so I just pass on the info and my experience 👍 the steering is great in that you don’t have to turn it beyond one lock therefore making it much easier to navigate mini roundabouts etc
Love this concept. Though the absence of a physical connection between steering wheel and wheels is a big no go for me: can't imagine what an impact an electrical failure would have, and at some point there will be an electrical failure. Also very curious about the range when loaded.
@@electricvanman Thanks for the feedback, but I’m now very curious how this is done. I have encountered lots of issues with cars that suffered from weird electrical gremlins often caused by corroded connections, microcracks in soldering or fuses, and so on. So for me, it’s not reassuring to rely on something like that. Still a great van though.
I can’t spot the spelling mistake… anyway, I think they are very connected to the market and are listening hard to hear the needs. Certainly the way they are coming across here
Would be good if they made a version that had a tall roof so people could walk in and out with ease without crouching to get inside it make manual handling inside the vehicle much more faster and productive thats the only really downside apart from that it looks like a good product for uk roads
@electricvanman thats amazing this would be great for the uk market i can only think of ease of getting in and out the vehicle without bending as its bad for the back especially for the business use intended for these vehicles great work buy the company
That lower windscreen will be definitely a distraction while driving and see all front space by the windshield just as waste space suitable just for coats, shoes and receipts.
I thought the window was an odd audition at first. I have to say having driven it for a few hours you quickly get used to it and see the value of it. As mentioned in the video they can change that for steel or and make the space more usable.
Tesla should buy Canoo. Canoo has so much to offer for a proper functional taxi, family car or a van, it even has fly by wire! It's quirky, highly noticeable and fun, and Sandy Munroe was very impressed. Why re-invent an already, highly developed and functional wheel. I can't believe that Tesla has not acquired Canoo, it fits into the line-up perfectly with Tesla doing a "Tesla" on it.
the first video on my feed next to this one is from the wall st journal about canoo and its imminent bankruptcy if it doesnt secure more funding, it doesnt bode well for potential buyers.

Pretty sure he meant right side of the vehicle--not the road =)
Excellent review of an excellent design. New subscriber, please keep the updates coming!
I hope it comes to the Katri Conference July 2-7 2024 at the Marriot Center in Raleigh North Carolina
I would love to own a Canoo 190❤
Good review
I'm disappointed it's only coming out for fleets. I would love the pickup version.
Cheers
two things that are simultaneously great, and troubling.
@ivantuma
When was the last time you had "a small piece of Rebar" puncture a Radiator?
Never?
Let’s see the pickup!
The van looks great!
Will grab that for a day next time it’s in the UK 👍
“Canoo can do.” My catch phrase for it
I like it!!
Great review. Interesting concepts
I like the look of the car, reminds me of a pill shape. pretty neat
If they bring the passenger vehicle to the uk and contact Motability they will have a ready market that sells more than 15% of all cars here.
Nice idea
Looks great
Good for round town
BUT.....
200 hundred ish miles 3 to 4 hours on the road will leave you stranded just when you need to get home
This vehicle could be perfect if it was a hybrid.
As stated
Round town.
These are used in the Netflix film Atlas
Great explanation for the older and more conservative crowd that may have been reluctant. 👍🏻 you don’t sound like the usual car industry expert. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you ! I really appreciate the comment. I am simply someone that has been in the industry helping fleets use vans well and now have focused on electric 👍
I am glad you made this positive video because most of the videos I see are made negatively to bash the Canoo and stock.
Thank you! My focus is the vehicle and the difference it can make for the market if successful. I want to give people reasons to be optimistic 😇👍
Bring them to NZ and AUS as well please
You are not the first to say this! I was speaking to a Kiwi only yesterday who said exactly the same!
@@electricvanman I’m in the market for a new van next year. This van would suit my business perfectly. I really don’t want to buy another diesel.
Would love to have it has a camper van.
This would be a good competition to the VW ID Buzz!
As a camera man and photographer, this would be great if it was 4wd with the spec to turn it into a day van, like the old Mitsubishi delica
I've invested in Canoo, still waiting and hoping its not vaporware... The "American Bulldog" pickup will the vehicle that gets my $$!
Interesting. Needs a frunk for access to the space . Needs better battery tech for more range.
Can see a great camper version .
Indeed and that has been a topic of conversation… could become a reality… keep an eye out 👍
Great video 4:26
Been in Canoo for 3+yrs now...hope they make it to the roads! Management has been pathetic on execution...
The concern I would bring up is that with it being that configurable would be parts availability.
In the real world, things happen and things get broken and down time is money.
As stated it's a concern; I haven't heard it being brought up so I'm mentioning it.
I think initially it wil have focus on specific fleets where there will be many of a few and that will build everything out
I'd like to see it a passenger Van. I have 2 seniors in thier 90s. I'd like to add seating that can be converted to a bed (like Aircraft Pods).
How much and when is it available in the UK ?
Good questions both. Reality is mid 25 for full UK deployment (or thereabouts) and pricing will come as they understand the changes required for the UK market 👍
Ofcourse that Front Green house demands some attention
some nice pots with plants, small Brushes, some may prefer crotchet.. a shelve..
so much room for activities
Its time to invest in Canoo
So battery chemistry? Charge rate?
Panasonic Batteries which I believe are LFP and 150kw DC (11kw AC I think)
Canoo is borderline bankrupt. Hope they can raise some cash.
They'll collect your deposit
Then run silently away
Very good point chap🫡
HUD tells you what gear you are in?? F or R any more??
P … what more do you need?
I would love a people carrier version of this for personal use.
It is a great looking people carrier both inside and out.
They are very focused on doing exactly that. Hence the deal with the United States Postal Service and with Walmart.
I want to see them prove they can build a full-on fleet for Walmart making thousands of identical vehicles, then worry about fitting other niches.
@@northernsouler it is fair to reflect on the importance of delivery! It is something top of the agenda as they come to the UK from my perspective for sure. I can’t speak to how things have gone stateside
Campervan ? Might be good, especially if it has two side doors to access the sleep area 🤔
I'm wondering how much it would be
Not been agreed yet as cost for the UK will vary the base price
Cool vehicle but why have they put the Union Jack upside down 😮
Wow the guys did mention that but I said (as a passionate and Patriotic Brit) that I didn’t know that you could do that and not to worry if it was wrong…. Seems I was wrong!! My bad (as the kids say)
@@electricvanman great reply 😎👍
Literally nobody but the ruddiest gammon cares
That flag will annoy a lot of people. Has it been printed backwards ?
@@jimpackard8059 no it was just put on upside down. I am 55 and this is the first I knew it could be upside down! 🙃 don’t let it spoil your enjoyment of the vehicle 🙏
I want it as a camper van…
This guy , what a DH !
I like the window!
Can u fit 8x4 sheets in it?
Use case - Nail the 8 by 4 sheet on edge challenge and you’ve got on to my list for sure
But having watched another video on the company looks like it’s got poor management and cash problems
I hope they make it. A pickup truck would work for me.
The pickup is a beast!
@@electricvanman Having worked with high powered electric motors almost all of my adult life, I can appreciate the instantaneous torque generated by said motors. I don't need a race truck. Four wheel drive and the ability to haul a good load will work for me. Leave the SS monstrosity for others to play with.
Can I fit an 8 x 4 sheet inside ? Otherwise I will stick to my Toyota hiace .
I would buy one
Fewer parts, not less parts.
I am quite sure you are correct 👍
Very nice
Not normally a fan of big electric vehicles because i think less vehicles (or smaller ones) are better in the long run - it's why I'm sad XBUS went bust. However, this looks like it was made really well for the purpose they had in mind - great for tradies, a new gen of white van men, the rest of it. I'm worried that they'll sell it as a vanity pickup, though
The intention is exactly to sell it into the working world and large fleets. Making a difference for drivers that have to really use the vehicle and make the vehicle an extention of the business
How much for the swb your testing. Thanks
We do not have UK pricing yet.
Yes, Buy these ones. Much, much better then Teslas!
Can the 190 take a pallet load?
For sure!
OK
But What about the price ?
Fair question but we will have to wait until they understand fully all the changes and development for the UK market
How much is that going to cost?
I like it .
Love it.
Love this concept. Though the absence of a physical connection between steering wheel and wheels is a big no go for me: can't imagine what an impact an electrical failure would have, and at some point there will be an electrical failure. Also very curious about the range when loaded.
There won’t be a failure. There is redundancy in the system
They have a number of contingencies to make sure that it’s never in a situation of an electrical failure.
When will it be on the market?
It will likely hit the UK market in 2025
I want one......or two
Is there a press release from Royal Mail about this new deal?
There is no “deal” with Royal Mail that has been done
'Canno' might be an unfortunate misspell. 'Cannot'?? Design looks great. Functional case too disconnected from market?
I can’t spot the spelling mistake… anyway, I think they are very connected to the market and are listening hard to hear the needs. Certainly the way they are coming across here
0:36 "Taking the specifications from America and understanding what they are in English". LOL
when is it being shipped to the UK?
It will likely hit the market properly in 2025. There will be some to view at company Car in action in June.
Would be good if they made a version that had a tall roof so people could walk in and out with ease without crouching to get inside it make manual handling inside the vehicle much more faster and productive thats the only really downside apart from that it looks like a good product for uk roads
This has been thought about. Particularly the manual handling element - the vehicle is quite adaptable 👍
@electricvanman thats amazing this would be great for the uk market i can only think of ease of getting in and out the vehicle without bending as its bad for the back especially for the business use intended for these vehicles great work buy the company
Arrival vans , took investors money and disappeared. Now stock worth .06 .
Canoo and Arrival may fit together in that Practicality of Build them in Micro Factories.
UK should check other ways of manufacturing
I don't like the A/C vents so high up above the visors. Seems like that would constantly give you a draft on your head.
But what sort of a price ?
Like it.
Cute van, but I wouldn’t wanna get into an accident in one of them. Tesla will be releasing their van in the next year or so and I’d much rather wait for Tesla quality over canoo experimentation.
The quality bar is high with this Van! Tesla should have done a Van ages ago!!
