The TESLA of Vans(?) FIRST DRIVE! The
Вставка

- This video has been done with the support of Canoo and is all taken at face value and incorporating my real lived (all be it brief) experience with both the vehicle and the people of Canoo. My impression that this is the Tesla of Vans is based on the way that Tesla changed the landscape for electric cars. My feeling this has the potential to do the same for Vans...
The feedback has been honestly given and well received. They are clear that some things have to change ahead of a UK launch. Their model allows for this and has been evidenced by the way they have won accounts in the US. Not least the United States Postal Service!
Realistically this vehicle will be available in 2025 but given the quality of the drive many people may be asking for this sooner rather than later!
Great range and charging speed as standard also with a high level of configurability which is due to their aim being to be an extension of your business!
Watch this space for more on Canoo as they build a platform from which to launch here in the UK.
Love this. Hope the company makes it. C’mon Apple, chuck some money at it!
Unfortunately a significant margin of their budget is blown on their CEO's salary. They are trying to survive by getting government contractual orders because Canoo is corrupt and mismanaged. Which is unfortunate, because the concept is solid.
Elon ditch the Cyber Spaceship and partner with Canoo!
@@JEP-Tech yes. Spent more on private planes for the ceo than the company brought in!
@@JEP-Tech ... uninformed statement. CEO Tony has invested over $400 million in this company, don't you think he's got some perks coming?
@@ArizonaPoet No, you don't get "perks" when your company is a start up and is solidly in the red. He's a billionaire, he wants to fly in his private plane, he should be paying that out of his own pocket until they actually make money or fly commercial like anyone else does. Walmart is one of the largest and most profitable publicly traded companies and doesn't even pay for the pens that corporate officers use in meetings. Companies don't make money buy paying their CEO's "perks" for not making the company any money. This shows that the company is mismanaging funds and not doing everything possible to maximize their return on investment.
I am so excited to see them in the UK. I've followed them since the start and realised that their tech would be superb for disabled drivers like me.
Watch this space! It certainly could be very suitable 👍
@electricvanman They've had a very rocky road coming to market in the USA, so I'd be a bit cautious about a Canoo purchase just yet, despite loving the products.
I sat in one at the Los Angeles Auto Show a few years ago and was suitably impressed. It has so many excellent features, including the low windows at the front that greatly improve road visibility
It really does. Not everyone is a fan in the UK but I can see some clear benefits!
Canoo rock, certainly one of the most innovative MPV / Van manufacturers in the market today. Pioneering decent range, and now in the UK. Whats not to like about this Futuristic vision of the future. Vans don't need to be boring any more...
The cab is unique. Visibility is excellent. Passenger side window is helpful for safe turning at intersections. What I need is an empty long wheel base van to create a job specific gear hauler that you can sleep in and make breakfast. Gear will include, Fully assembled bicycles, alpine climbing gear, kayaks and paddle boards. D ring tie downs inside plus roof rails and cross bars to secure a variety of loads are also essential. Looking forward to a test drive when you have the vehicle I’m looking for ; )
The Maxwell ePro is quite literally the TESLA of vans, but this is super cool too!
I'd got it in my head from somewhere that Canoo were in serious financial trouble and so had given up on the idea of ever seeing them in the UK. Seems I was wrong.
Financially they are barely surviving. But now they are at a low production for high volume orders. I think they are scrapping what they can until they hit a big contract. If that happens we'll be able to see more production of the other variations. I'm still a fan because of the concept they have going. Hope I'll be able to own that bulldog version
The Bulldog is a beast! Their strategy now is clear and they are focused on fleet, like USPS, Walmart and similar for the UK
Think Ocado delivery contract or UPS
You're not wrong, last I heard they were going bankrupt.
It makes the Cyber Trough look like something from the "Outer Limits", or "Jurassic Park", obsolete and useless. Why didn't Electric Jesus create something like this? Absolutely brilliant.
what utter bs, another anti tesla shill let loose on utube
Just what I was thinking. Now he’s threatening to cut the baby in half if he doesn’t get his 50 billion dollar payout.
My thoughts exactly, cyper joke...unfortunately this company are very close to bankruptcy..burning money like no tomorrow..bummer!!!!

OK, I understand, you're not smart.

smh
Didn’t realise they already have a RH drive version, brilliant and I would definitely like one especially the pickup.
They made RHD for the USPS mail delivery vehicles. It’s easy to switch because it’s steer by wire and no complicated dashboard design.
@@CyberOwners do you know where these are going to be on display in the U.K assuming they are still here, would definitely like to see them in the flesh just like I did with the Cybertruck the other weekend.
@@tonystock856they won't, canoo are destined for bankruptcy
The configurability bodes very well for campervans. The 190 looks like it might actually be big enough (unlike the SWB Buzz which really is a bit too tiddly (like this 130 size) at 3.8m3. the 4.8m3 is only slightly smaller than a SWB vivaro B (5.2) for example. The drive-by-wire and all that unconstrained space should make for some really interesting possibilities. Like what do we do with all that front-space? 'Storage' seems like a good start. 80kWh is bigger than the SWB buzz and PSA vans, but smaller than the Buz LWB. So depends on efficiency of drivetrain and aero for how that compares on real-world range. I look forward to some Bjorn tests.
Was there any mention of V2G? This is important for campers which spend a lot of time on the drive.
And of course when will it actually arrive and what sort of price?
I hope that Cannoo's attitude to configurable hardware and making things their customers actually want extends to software configuarability. How are they to deal with in terms of changing stuff (or even better letting us change stuff ourselves in order to add camping-mode functions that they probably haven't bothered with yet)?
I'm guessing we'll have to wait at least another year before this thing actually turns up?
Yes probably a year for full UK entry and then maybe a little longer before wider availability for Camper style conversions. That said when they come there is V2G capability so there should plenty of options on that front.
@@electricvanman I don't mind doing my own conversion - in fact I think I'd prefer to, but it's a massive time investment so I'm still waiting for the right base. And of course getting changes to the base to suit camper applications requires more than just one-offs. I don't know if canoo have already thought about this for the US market, so may have something in their design stash.
So you are saying that they already do V2G? Or have just promised it? That's very good news if so.

I need one for my Pressure Washing Business and one for my mobile detailing Business. Love the different configurations.
Yeah I mean, I want one! Get on my driveway!!!
A hell of a lot of van users wont need anywhere near a ton of load carrying capability. The opening door would be a lot better to use than the sliding one too, especially if converted to a camper. Not as good in tight spaces though I agree.
I also like my vans to be fun. Most arent, but you can make changes to improve them. Why should they just be boring when you can spend every day of your working week in them. More fun vans please!
Im very interested in these. I think the modular ability in the rear is fantastic and really well thought out. Same applies to the cab area. Range is sufficient too and better than the other small electric van alternatives.. even the mediums too, apart from the buzz.
Interested in the pricing and when we're likely to be able to get our hands on one.
We will get information on prices and timing later this year. I agree that the market needs more “fun” vans as you put it. Only that they must remain practical. It great when vans come along that allow you to stand out!
“Canoo can do.” My catch phrase for it
I like it!!
I am glad you made this positive video because most of the videos I see are made negatively to bash the Canoo and stock.
Thank you! My focus is the vehicle and the difference it can make for the market if successful. I want to give people reasons to be optimistic 😇👍
two things that are simultaneously great, and troubling. The forward visibility is great - I would just worry about road debris penetrating the passenger cabin. I would prefer a flat screen connected to a forward looking camera, with a reinforced metal front "shield" instead (especially on American roads and roads in the developing world were a stray piece of rebar on the road can make for a very bad day). Also, the drive-by-wire looks like it may induce a video game effect which may take some getting used to - not sure if the steering has any artificially induced feedback to make it feel more connected to the wheels despite DBW. I do love that these vehicles were designed with the second and third owners in mind when it comes to maintenance.
I found that the steering was excellent once I got used to the very short lock to lock. It is very "instant in its response" I did not feel like it was disconnected from the road - quite the opposite!
@@electricvanman Thanks for your evaluation. I hope they find the right partner to finish what they started and go into mass production. I think eventually, every new vehicle will have DBW steering. Many vehicles have had DBW brakes for some time and customers don't even realize. I'm just curious what it feels like when you hit an irregularity in the road while in the middle of a hard corner - normally this gets translated back to the driver via the steering wheel. I was just curious if you noticed any artificial feedback during your test. The Korean's (KIA) in particular are tearing the EV van/small truck picture out of the same book but I would rather buy a product produced in the US if it's competitive. I have a commercial Canoo truck pre-order (which I don't expect to see become available for years - if ever :D)
@ivantuma
When was the last time you had "a small piece of Rebar" puncture a Radiator?
Never?
I would love to own a Canoo 190❤
This guy , what a DH !
I've invested in Canoo, still waiting and hoping its not vaporware... The "American Bulldog" pickup will the vehicle that gets my $$!
HUD tells you what gear you are in?? F or R any more??
P … what more do you need?
The concern I would bring up is that with it being that configurable would be parts availability.
In the real world, things happen and things get broken and down time is money.
As stated it's a concern; I haven't heard it being brought up so I'm mentioning it.
I think initially it wil have focus on specific fleets where there will be many of a few and that will build everything out
Been in Canoo for 3+yrs now...hope they make it to the roads! Management has been pathetic on execution...
'Canno' might be an unfortunate misspell. 'Cannot'?? Design looks great. Functional case too disconnected from market?
I can’t spot the spelling mistake… anyway, I think they are very connected to the market and are listening hard to hear the needs. Certainly the way they are coming across here
Not normally a fan of big electric vehicles because i think less vehicles (or smaller ones) are better in the long run - it's why I'm sad XBUS went bust. However, this looks like it was made really well for the purpose they had in mind - great for tradies, a new gen of white van men, the rest of it. I'm worried that they'll sell it as a vanity pickup, though
The intention is exactly to sell it into the working world and large fleets. Making a difference for drivers that have to really use the vehicle and make the vehicle an extention of the business
I like it .
Not really a review, more of a long infomercial. It looks great and has done for all the years its been coming. Lets get it here. I think it has loads of potential. Be good to understand the price v competitors. For sure it will be much cheaper to run. Not sure how practical a oblong wheel is weaving down our residential estates, negotiating mini roundabouts and 3 point turns. An easy fix for them if it's not practical though.
At this stage it has to be that! We can’t drive it out in the real world so I just pass on the info and my experience 👍 the steering is great in that you don’t have to turn it beyond one lock therefore making it much easier to navigate mini roundabouts etc
How much and when is it available in the UK ?
Good questions both. Reality is mid 25 for full UK deployment (or thereabouts) and pricing will come as they understand the changes required for the UK market 👍
How much is that going to cost?
I don't like the A/C vents so high up above the visors. Seems like that would constantly give you a draft on your head.
0:36 "Taking the specifications from America and understanding what they are in English". LOL
So battery chemistry? Charge rate?
Panasonic Batteries which I believe are LFP and 150kw DC (11kw AC I think)
Love this concept. Though the absence of a physical connection between steering wheel and wheels is a big no go for me: can't imagine what an impact an electrical failure would have, and at some point there will be an electrical failure. Also very curious about the range when loaded.
There won’t be a failure. There is redundancy in the system
They have a number of contingencies to make sure that it’s never in a situation of an electrical failure.
@@electricvanman Thanks for the feedback, but I’m now very curious how this is done. I have encountered lots of issues with cars that suffered from weird electrical gremlins often caused by corroded connections, microcracks in soldering or fuses, and so on. So for me, it’s not reassuring to rely on something like that. Still a great van though.
Can u fit 8x4 sheets in it?
Is there a press release from Royal Mail about this new deal?
There is no “deal” with Royal Mail that has been done
How much
Not clear yet as there needs to be some changes for the UK market.
over sensitive steering?
I want one......or two
All this is in the future tense, with tons of if and questions marks.
Make it come to Europe (better suited to the european market IMHO) and, more importantly, start building it.
It is in the future tense as it has only just arrived. It is important to consider the possibilities so that people will give them a try!
When will it be on the market?
It will likely hit the UK market in 2025
Did Canoo pay you to release this video? You didn't say one negative thing about them, the biggest one of all being that they've only delivered something like 20 or 30 vans in total! However nice the concept is, if you had to handover your own money for one of these, would you feel at all confident that you would get it? And if you did, would the firm be around in the future to support it?
If you look at all my videos I focus on the positive. This is a great concept and having driven everything pretty much that is onthe market it is a class leading drive. If they don't deliver on the goals I will be the first to be calling them on that directly. I have the say it to their face first philosophy before going out to the big wide world as that is unhelpful I feel
@@electricvanmanyou didn’t answer the question - whether you paid by Canoo? It certainly played as a scripted Ad
The one thing I thought when you got into the US version was how much wasted space at the front! Wow.
Well when you consider the fact that this can become useable space vs the space that is entirely lost under the bonnet of many an electric Van!
@@electricvanman and yet they have so much space in front of the driver instead of in the payload bay behind.
@@SirHackaL0t. there are often safety requirements that force manufacturers to have space in front of the driver. I am not sure why in this case but it would be my guess
Sounds a bit like an advert for canoo
What can I say…. I like it!
@@electricvanman An honest reply 😉
Buy some goev stock to help them out
I need a mobile gaming and stock market center.
Front safety ???
They will have to meet all safety requirements to be passed to go in the road
The financial forecast for Canoo is dreadful. They’re on the brink of bankruptcy. As of 2023 they have only delivered 22 vehicles.
Canoo vehicles make too much sense. Seems to me just a matter of time until it catches.
🇸🇪👋👋
Looks really nice
why would i want one if it takes 7 hours to charge.
You charge it when you are not using it… while you are sleeping!
SO WHERE IS THE CANOO??? People have been banging on about this for YEARS without actually seeing a single unit on the road..... I think this is another Nikolar Company!
Are you USA or UK? If UK it will be at a ride and drive event next week. If US there are some working in NASA some in USPS and some in Walmart - how many and where I do not know.
Less things to go wrong is not something we think of steer by wire.
I know what you mean....it should be "fewer things"
Don't fly in a commercial jet, A380 or 777, they've done fly by wire for years. That's where the tek comes from.
@@ArizonaPoet that is exactly the reason why I would never trust drive by wire in a car. Because car ownership and certification standards don’t have same level of safety as we have in aviation. Simply put it works for aviation because it is a whole different level of everything, much higher, so please don’t compare this to cars. We have already EV’s burning down with unresponsive electric door levers and it just started.

Sounds very much like an advertorial, did someone break your critical button? The oblong steering wheel looks really touchy, is it wide enough for a standard pallet, for a van you seem to sit a very long way back, what about all that useless "sandwich holder" room in front of you? Get it off the toy boy test track supervised by car company executives and put it on the street for a week with a load of post office parcels up against an ICE van. See how it really does. Advertorial.
Yes a test track and yes that is a great idea… one that is already in the pipeline but probably without a camera for testing against ICE with real customers . There are plenty of questions… space is one, the side load door another. As I said the steering takes getting used too (but is actually really good!) yes to enough space for standard pallet. Bottom line is I am a reviewer of vehicles that understands the Van market and I want to raise awareness of the vehicle so people can wade in and make it the best for the Uk market that it can be. I will emphasise though it IS a great drive and an interesting all around proposition.
Customize to your needs? No they won't. Too expensive to make. It will be a box and that will be configurable. Anything else and they will go bust. Unless you are buying 200000 of something special, of course.
They have already done this with both Walmart and USPS from what I can tell. And whilst the focus is on the larger opportunities here in the UK we are led to believe the same applies
Less talk and less gushing would have helped. This is a 5 minute video given in 15.
Thanks for the feedback

So if it's like tesla do you mean it's a piece of trash? EV is for golf carts
I think you know I certainly do not! As Tesla changed the market dynamics for cars so this could change them for Vans
Tesla sucks. Let this stand on its own.
Whilst I do not really have an opinion on whether Tesla sucks or not, I agree completely that this will stand on its own. The comparison is made for the overall effect of Tesla on the wider market for Cars. They have forced a change in the market. I believe this Van could do the same.
Why do you think Tesla suck? In my experience they are the best designed electric vehicles, and the hardware/software interaction is years ahead of everybody else

The LSV/passenger, not the delivery version. Has been compared to the Black cabs of London. In a favorable way. The back window rolls down, if you want fast food, you , from the back seat, talk to the speaker. You, from the back seat handle the money and the food. No one else.
I have sat in the passenger version also. It is a great space and that rear window feature is cool too.
The back window roll down feature of the pickup truck goes well with the Limousine concept of the LDV190 converted to a wet-bar equipped limo. Can see these become the limo standard. Base van converted inside to luxury hotel standards.
These really have their place here in France. The camper version would work too.

Just more Promotion, something we don't need. What we really need is PRODUCTION!!!!!!!!!!! GET YOUR ASSES IN GEAR!!! STOP TALKING ABOUT CANOOS, START BUILDING CANOOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Canoo tries too hard to be everything to everyone. They have a real opportunity to get to volume through fleet sales to already established customers, but they have to deliver thousands of vehicles this year instead of dozens.
They are very focused on doing exactly that. Hence the deal with the United States Postal Service and with Walmart.
@@electricvanman Sure, but the Walmart contract has been in place for two years now. They can't keep up this burn rate pitching new products to new markets when they can't deliver on the contracts in hand.
I honestly hope they make it because I agree that their product has great potential. They just have to stop this "throw all the ideas against the wall, like spaghetti, and see what sticks" approach. I want to see them prove they can build a full-on fleet for Walmart making thousands of identical vehicles, then worry about fitting other niches.
@@northernsouler it is fair to reflect on the importance of delivery! It is something top of the agenda as they come to the UK from my perspective for sure. I can’t speak to how things have gone stateside
Oh and what about the serviceability, warranty performance and replacement parts coming out of China? Anyone trained to service these vehicles in the UK? Comparative insurance quotes would be interesting? Who makes it and what is there record so far for building successful electric vehicles? Saw this vehicle in the movie Atlas and didn't think its a real production vehicle, until now. Amazing
Nice idea
Looks great
Good for round town
BUT.....
200 hundred ish miles 3 to 4 hours on the road will leave you stranded just when you need to get home
This vehicle could be perfect if it was a hybrid.
Needs more real world thought 🤔
Yes, I agree. Cuz I got distance to travel and all things hybrid or option of just gas or gas electric I'll be okay with that. Not just electric. I'm not a office worker 9:00 to 5:00 job lol
The average daily mileage here in the UK of a working van is around 80 miles. But somewhere between 100 and 150 miles Will be suffice for at least half of the market. The charging speed is quite high also which means a quick boost of 50 or 75 miles would be perfectly possible in less than 15 minutes.
As stated
Round town.
With traffic as it is. A 400 mile range would make it a more feasible alternative. Winter driving with heating on would also make things difficult. Don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but I am a professional van driver, a trip from Leicester to Exeter would be a 2 day trip, not a single day, as of present.
Even a trip to London would add hours of charge time to the journey.
Thus, a hybrid would work.
This vehicle needs more real-world thought.
Maybe it should be a Recreational Vehicle.

I'm in my trailers and have to haul my boat and it's kind of a pain in the ass to charge. But it is a badass vehicle. Now. The company is kind of shady. These look amazing for a compact campervan, as long as it has minimum 6ft long cargo section. My only worry with that low front window is stone chips and smashes. But maybe its just not actually an issue.
The glass has some protection and can also be replaced easily in the worst case. I understand the concern but I do not think it will be much of an issue
Would love to have it has a camper van.
Not going to survive market as China can make something better for half the cost.
Whilst I see many Chinese products coming to market the reality is that US and European (inc UK) are bringing in tariffs which may eliminate price advantage and frankly this is the best Van I have driven and if the whole proposition lives up to expectations there won’t be any Chinese products that will compete
