Hi there! If you click on the link in the description it will take you to the product page. On that page, you will find the drag ratings. The smaller sizes have 33# of rated drag. Thank you!
I bought 2 of the 6000 sharky III baitfeeders and I gotta say, I have no complaints whatsoever. They have handled up to 40lb carp, which are hard fighting freshwater fish, with no problem! Love my reels.
I have been using mine for 5 years now, on a big river, still works like it was new. It is crazy, at this price range!! The quality of a premium Shimano reel
Hey amazing video! I'm looking to buy the Sharky III baitrunner, but I am deciding if I should get the 4000 or 5000. I'm pairing it with a 7ft Uglystik GX2, that I'll be using for surf and pier fishing. Any suggestions on which one I should get?
Aloha Kapono, mahalo nui for the great review, very nice reel for the money. Question: Iʻm pākē to da max so Iʻm thinking about getting the Kastking Centron 300 9+1 ball bearings reel for $25.98. You have any experience with this reel. I think I told you before but love you guys videos because you fish one of my old stompimg grounds from 35+ years back. Used to fish, dive, and even hunt goats between Kiholo Bay and Kawaihae back in da dazes. Ever hike down to Pololū Valley and whip the surf? Good grounds at least back then. I miss the Big Island. Keep up the great work! Aloha a hui hou, Ahnko
Yea I seen lots of reviews on the kastking REELS a while back but now I'm seeing lots of update reviews where the REELS gears do not stand up they stop working for lots of the big fishing channel that fish everyday with them. they seem to last about 6 months or so. I was wondering if yours is still working for you? And if so how often do you use it? I want to buy a speed demon so bad but a little scared of the gears giving out. Great video and god bless you my friend
this reel is a good reel for the price point. the 5000 size of this reel managed to pull in a summers worth of Salmon in Alaska, even a 30lb King Salmon. My only complaint is that Okuma Ceymar is in this same price point and holds up to the challenging conditions of glacier silt or a rocky/sandy beach and salt water and fresh glacier water. My Sharky 3 needed full maintenance before the summer was over. The Okuma reel lasted 3 years before I even considered any maintenance to the reel. But the reel has not let me down when I have hooked up to any of my fish.
tapuchan200 what kind of reels do you use for their saltwater? Brand, height, medium? I’m looking for one that I can use in freshwater and occasionally in salt water. Any suggestions? Thanks!
KastKing maybe version 6000-10000 of Sharky lll and Kodiak for saltwater jigging with large handle for easy drops and retrieves. I would like to have that extra capacity for deep 150m + with braid line up to 50 lbs.
Kast King, your Bait casters could use a series with at least 50 lbs of drag, the bait casters and runners have less drag then your Sharky 3 spinning reel...??!
Good vid King Kapono! Informational commentary so good u made me pick up a Sharky 3 3000 size! just spooled it up yesterday with 20 lb kastking superpower braid. One thing I noticed though, I bot a150 yard braid spool and filled up the reel spool up to 1/8th inch from edge as you guys recommend, but still had a lot of line leftover on the braid spool, is that normal?the specs say it should take 219 yards of 20lb braid, but there is still 20 yards leftover on the braid spool which would mean the reel only took 130 yards? is this common?
You can run it a bit closer to the lip of the spool. The closer you get the more likely it seems to me that the line can get bird nested during retrieval for most reels. If the spool says 219 it should take about that much. You brought up a great point though, I have never actually measured our any of my reels and seen if the claims line up to reality.
Yeppers Sir! confirming it was 150 yards KK brand braid spool. This all started when I first spooled in 70 yards of 8 lb mono as backing (following KK's published reel capacity specs >>> 20lb/220yds for braid = 8lb/220yds for mono, so 220 capacity less the 150 braid means I need 70 yds mono). Putting in 70 yds of mono already placed me near the halfway mark of the reel so it was obvious there was no way I can put in another 150 yards. I tossed out the mono and just spooled the braid directly and still got leftover. Much mahalos!
The reel is fantastic and I highly recommend buying one of these reels. The only problem that was also covered In this video was the drag cap. When I took my drag cap off I wasn’t able to put it on correctly the first time which negated the ability for my drag system to work. After I learnt how to snap it back into place there is and was never any issues with this reel. I’ve had the reel for 3 years now using it on all kinds of salmon. This reel is a 4.5 star out of 5 for price point.
I've been using the KastKing green 20 LB braid line back bay fishing catching bluefish and it's a surprisingly good quality line, for a low price.I recently bought the New Conflict II 5000 composite reel made by Penn and to my disappointment the CNC gears in those reels lost their smoothness in a short time and they buzz & vibrate through the reel on the retrieve. This Sharky is a light composite reel and resembles the Daiwa BG 4000 air rotor reel, I saw other reviews on UA-cam for the Sharky III stating the reel is water resistant, and that the gears are very smooth I can't sample the reel because it's not sold over the counter, are the gears smooth ? I'd like your opinion on how the gears feel on retrieve with this reel. So far I'm getting a good bang for the buck for KastKing braid, it casts far and I've been casting tin lures on the surf in the back bay catching big bluefish like crazy for the past week with no wind knots the line boke in a little and it feels and casts better every time I use it. I've been checking out rave reviews for this reel by other guys rating the Sharky III on UA-cam it looks like a reel that I would actually enjoy fishing with. THKS....
I'm new to saltwater fishing.. And I found so far that saltwater fishing gear is much more expensive than freshwater... do you think that this reel can be my universal reel with target on fish like catfish/carp/pike/trout on freshwater and for barracuda/amberjack/bluefish saltwater? Because KastKing definitely have the best prices on market.
The drag is unreal beefy on this thing. Hope the Penn ends up worth it though braddah sucks when you pick something up and find another replacement right after you could have nailed!
Damn son. I have had a sharky baitfeeder for 2 years now and so far the only thing thats shown wear is the paint. Fantastic reel, insanely smooth.. One can argue TO smooth. When i first got it i switch from a black max and had trouble positioning my bale for casting.. I would always go too far and since it was literally anti reverse i couldnt back it up any.. So far the biggest fish its caught is a 35 pound blue cat on freakin 20lb mono, the drag is top notch. The reel size is 30
I hear this is a good spinning reel BUT the week point on the reel is the neck of the reel. is the neck graphite? Its been told that when landing a large fish the neck gives a bit and it doesn't feel sturdy. I would assume you wouldn't want no give at all. i am looking into my first saltwater reel so i am doing a lot of looking around.
dang was looking at the okuma helios hx30s, penn conflict II, and the shimano ci4 all in the 2000-3000 range for a lightweight halalu/akule reel. All day kine whipping needs the weight savings or you feel em eventually. The sharky III same size only weighs 1 ounce more than the others plus get the sealed system. Good find. Might pick up the sharky instead cause of the super cheap price. you get referral if I use your amazon link or no matter where I buy?
The should be a medium to medium heavy if you are using it for dunking wit this reel. Honestly anything rated above 20# should be fine with proper rod use. Let the reel fight the fish and use the rod to boost only.
Shaka Fishing what do you mean dunking? Haha I take that literally lol. Thank you for the advice. So to be clear I can buy their rods that’s rated for 8-14 line wt.(lbs) and put a 20# braided line and be just fine as long as it’s rated for medium to medium heavy? Of course using this same reel. Just wanna know what kind of rod to get. I want a 6’6” for kayak fishing both lake and salt water but I am confused when the rod is rated at medium with a max line wt of 14. What does that mean for the line # I choose? And what is the max line # of the reel? Can you simplify for me please? Thank you! Xoxo
Kali M. 8-14 line weight means to withstand 8-14lbs force while fish is fighting basicly if a fish weight is 8lbs it can turn into more than its weight it while resisting .. that could almost double the weight depends on how powerful fish type u get.. so if u think fish gonna be max at 8lbs then that is the perfect line wt rod, so think of the 1st number resemble the target fish weight and if u hav to fight fish more than ur max line wt rod means u need to know how to release high tension while fightin the fish or u could play the drag on the reel if its too strong it will scream spooling
Mahalo for the support. You freshwater fish mainly? The Sharky III would have more than plenty for that application I think. Thanks for sharking your thoughts.
its missing the rubber washer under the drag tensioner that my sharky II has...so water can get into this one. Can you please measure stuff that you talk about like the main shaft instead of saying 20% bigger, would be a great help.
Nice review I'd like KastKing to make an Ultralite version of this reel weighing 7.5 ozs or less I'd buy 2 of them 4 sure an pair them both with a Fenwick HMX Rod. I can't find any cons against this reel but a Ultralite Version would be Boss. Id like to see them put sealed bearings in this reel in the future. Ultralite version is a must tho.
Seeing a KastKing Sharky 3 in ultralight would be sick. I do not think this is the platform the company is aiming to do that with though. I think the KastKing Kodiak has a sub 2000 size reel. I expect they did not think there would be much of a market for a ultralight version which would have such a beefy drag system, idk how they would be usable together.
Hi,your review was good..I liked it..I have the Sharky 3 -3000 size and I really like using it,for the price it's great and i certainly would recommend it..Cheers
If it is the spinning rod, and you are trying for bait fishing, that would be a solid settup. If you are going with light game lures you might want a little less strong backbone.
How do you move the handle on the reel as one side seems geared and the other doesn't? The shaft of the handle doesn't seem to fit into the other side of the reel, am I missing something here?
You should try going for some big Omilu's and GT's to see how that reel handles it! Then it will really be put to the test! But solid looking reel overall
quick question, i just recently bought a sharky 3 5000 and like mentioned in this video whenever i try to get the bail to close automatically it sticks but unlike yours in the video mine never gets set back down by itself. do i have a defective unit? i have tried opening the reel and re aligning the bail spring but nothing seems to work.
That does sound defective man. They got a solid refund and service policy though, should help you out, email them here and explain your problem, feel free to refer to this video if you need. service@kastking.com
You supposed to close your bail manually, not simply close it by simply reeling it in! That's how you mess a reel up real quickly! All reels should have their bails closed manually if you want them to last!
Morning in Hawaii! lol. For the KastKing Sharky 3 4k I would go with something medium-heavy if you are going to be doing static fishing, and medium-light if you are doing more cast and retrieve.
Isn't it pontless all that drag if you need to use lower test line to have any on the reel... don't think it is good idea to have stronger drag than line.
What size sharky 3 should I get? I’m going to be inshore fishing and I’m thinking of matching it with a hurricane calico jack 7’6 medium/heavy rod. What size reel should I get???
Shaka Fishing mmmm idk it may look funny like it’s to big on the calico jack rod I may go with the 4000 I mean it still has 33lb of drag. What do you think . I have a bigger setup it I want to go after monsters. I want this set up for lures and for decent size fish. I don’t want to use overkill gear to just drag a fish in
@@ShakaFishing does it matter?i dont know man after watching ypur video i was thinking of buying this reel but dont know much abt that. I do handline fishng so i was thinking to switch to rod and reels.
Yes certainly very well but you should not have any problem and deplorable after sales service: I just lost the crank of my Sharky 5000 price 16 euros(US dollars ) but especially 120 to 150 days of delay. The after sales service does not have any in advance and does not take any from the models in stock: manufacture on demand. So to be aware before buying
Shaka Fishing i was wondering about this question so I’m hoping you can help. I’m mostly going to fish largemouth bass and catfish. Would this reel be ok, with a medium-heavy rod?
Will you be casting baits or lures? The kastking sharky iii should be solid for both. Personally, if I am using a static bait to send out I will use a more heavy action rod, and for lures a more light action to get that extra spring to make casting more easy.
Anything that starts to weigh above about 3 oz you want to step your rod up to a more heavy set, anything below that and a light action will likely feel more fun.
Is it only me or this reel has spool issues. Very heavy at bottom and line don't spool even. Line gets stuck in between the braid ready rubber and spool too. Need advise
By the way, the handle is aluminum. Probably because the same color paint as the graphite body make you think it's graphite. lol
Whoops! Good catch, mahalo.
KastKing does the 2000 and 3000 also have a drag of 39.5?
Hi there! If you click on the link in the description it will take you to the product page. On that page, you will find the drag ratings. The smaller sizes have 33# of rated drag. Thank you!
any other color besides red? flat black? silver?
For the Sharky III, Negative.
I bought 2 of the 6000 sharky III baitfeeders and I gotta say, I have no complaints whatsoever. They have handled up to 40lb carp, which are hard fighting freshwater fish, with no problem! Love my reels.

I been fishing over 50 years and all my reels I close them by hand , it is a great way to extend your reel life
Been working on doing that more lately.
It's a hard habit to break
I heard the Eagle Viliant is better. Especially the new Bold version. Thoughts?
Hey amazing video! I'm looking to buy the Sharky III baitrunner, but I am deciding if I should get the 4000 or 5000. I'm pairing it with a 7ft Uglystik GX2, that I'll be using for surf and pier fishing. Any suggestions on which one I should get?

Nicely done. Just a thought, the smaller line capacity can be negated by putting heavier line on and letting the heavy drag fight the fish :)

Mahalo! The Sharky 3 5000 should handle most any of those with some strong line and use of the drag. Get a good grip before the hit! lol

Hi, can used this with Ugly Stik GX2 4pc 6'6" medium rod? Gonna be my first set up
You did a wonderful job! Thank you. I am still; not sure weather to go with the Sharky 3 or the Kodiak?
Mahalo! I think of the Kodiak as a slightly upgraded version of the Sharky 3. They are both solid reels though.
It looks like the kodiak is discontinued and replaced by the sharky 3 gold but I haven't been able to find a sharky 3 gold at 4000 or 5000.
I'm upset that I spent $120.00 for a Penn Fierce 2 live liner with only 15lbs of drag and the Kast King has 39lbs of drag!!😨
The drag is unreal beefy on this thing. Hope the Penn ends up worth it though braddah sucks when you pick something up and find another replacement right after you could have nailed!
If it makes you feel better I highly doubt you will ever use 15lbs of drag. People have caught 50lb tarpons and black fin tunas on 10-15lb line.
I caught a 22 lb carp on 4lbs of drag. Drag like that is for breaking you off when you turn it up too much on accident
Very nice review. Hitting on important features and hands on info. Honest opinions.
Aloha... Are you using the Hammer Bomb as a weight.. and if so why over a lead weight.. hope to hear from you soon
Really thorough! Awesome work! 🤙🏾 Will definitely consider this reel now
Mahalo for the support! If you end up with the Sharky III let me know what you think of it.

I can get a Penn Fierce II 4000 for $58 from the NEX at Pearl Harbor, so exact same price. Which should I get?
I hear this is a good spinning reel BUT the week point on the reel is the neck of the reel. is the neck graphite? Its been told that when landing a large fish the neck gives a bit and it doesn't feel sturdy. All day kine whipping needs the weight savings or you feel em eventually. The sharky III same size only weighs 1 ounce more than the others plus get the sealed system. Good find. Might pick up the sharky instead cause of the super cheap price. you get referral if I use your amazon link or no matter where I buy?
+finjahs right on braddah, glad to help you decide. As long as you buy after clicking on of my links it is all good! Mahalo for asking!
which kind of rods would you pair this real with?
Which size should I get for whipping for papios but would also be good for aweoweo or menpachi?
Hey nice video, thank you! because the drag can withstand almost 40lbs, does that mean the rod needs to be rated for at least 40lbs?
The should be a medium to medium heavy if you are using it for dunking wit this reel. Honestly anything rated above 20# should be fine with proper rod use. Let the reel fight the fish and use the rod to boost only.

Nice thorough review. Good pors and cons. I haven't surf fished, yet, but the line capacity seems to me to be okay. Great value reel.
Mahalo for the support. You freshwater fish mainly? The Sharky III would have more than plenty for that application I think. Thanks for sharking your thoughts.
What size would you recommend for a 9-foot surf casting rod? And also what size braid?
What method of fishing will you use? What is the rod specs
@@ShakaFishinggonna throw some plugs and jigs. I like moving lures rather than bait
its missing the rubber washer under the drag tensioner that my sharky II has...so water can get into this one.
Can you please measure stuff that you talk about like the main shaft instead of saying 20% bigger, would be a great help.
I noticed the reel handle is on the left, can it be removed and placed on the right side or would that be something of a special order?
Hey Shaka,
I will fish in Norway some heavy lures. Up ton12,35oz/360gramm. Which reel size would you prefere.
Ty in advance.
Marc
A boat winch 😂
How do you rate this reel 6 years later?
Got this reel about when you put the vid up very reliable and one of my favorite whipping reels.
the 5000 is strong enough for catfish without the shaft becoming crooked?
Nice review I'd like KastKing to make an Ultralite version of this reel weighing 7.5 ozs or less I'd buy 2 of them 4 sure an pair them both with a Fenwick HMX Rod. Just ordered a 4000 bait runner. Looking forward to trying it out.
Which is better the Sharky3 baitfeeder or This?
Hi,your review was good..I liked it..I have the Sharky 3 -3000 size and I really like using it,for the price it's great and i certainly would recommend it..Cheers
Mahalo for the comment! Still rocking this reel hard and have been quite happy still. Thing is pretty mean!
Hi maye new subscriber here. Is the sharky 5000 good for 10'6 5-9kg rod Penn prevail 2?
If it is the spinning rod, and you are trying for bait fishing, that would be a solid settup. If you are going with light game lures you might want a little less strong backbone.
Can you use this reel if you like reeling with your right hand not your left
Where did you buy that dude.It looks good.
Always manually close my bales regardless, because it wears out the tripping mechanism when you close it using the crank handle.
I'm wondering if u can put a fatter knob on it? That would be sweet. For more line I would do 30-to 40lb braid
How do you move the handle on the reel as one side seems geared and the other doesn't? The shaft of the handle doesn't seem to fit into the other side of the reel, am I missing something here?
Looks like a NICE reel man! Great video!
Mahalo nui loa! Appreciate the support a lot :D
Hello, what size do you recommend for a 6’6 feet rod?
1 year later but go with 2000
So which size would be good for saltwater and freshwater and can be light and heavy tackle?
Go with a middle model I would say 3000 or 4000 depending on how light or heavy you want to go
Shaka Fishing ok thanks
The clip where you got your lure stuck will that be a video
You should try going for some big Omilu's and GT's to see how that reel handles it! Then it will really be put to the test! But solid looking reel overall
That is the goal man! Going to try again this weekend, got to rely sample that drag ;D
Broke first use how do i return to Amazon ?? Maybe was defective
Will the 6000 be good for catfishing?
I expect so! That size should wrench them in good with the drag, should not need all that much line for letting them run.
Okay thank you for the info! Have a great day!!!
You got it braddah!
quick question, i just recently bought a sharky 3 5000 and like mentioned in this video whenever i try to get the bail to close automatically it sticks but unlike yours in the video mine never gets set back down by itself. do i have a defective unit? i have tried opening the reel and re aligning the bail spring but nothing seems to work.

You supposed to close your bail manually, not simply close it by simply reeling it in! That's how you mess a reel up real quickly! All reels should have their bails closed manually if you want them to last!
Will the bail arm hold against 39lbs of drag?
Is it still going 2 years later?
You can get the KK in a 6000 model now w/ baitrunner feature.
What’s the point of that much drag if you’re only supposed to have around 20% of your line strength?? I doubt that holds 46lb line haha
The line on it in the video is 50# braid.
Any idea where I can buy a extra Spools
Does kastking have any ultralite/panfish reels?
+GIV N GO they have the melta II which is pretty light.
Hola, hace poco compré sharki III , me gustaría saber qué número de línea de trenzada debo ponerle.
¿Qué tamaño de carrete de pesca conseguiste?
@@ShakaFishing un 4000 mil
Good afternoon
Would you please tell me which rod can be paired with the reel size 4000.?
Morning in Hawaii! lol. For the KastKing Sharky 3 4k I would go with something medium-heavy if you are going to be doing static fishing, and medium-light if you are doing more cast and retrieve.
Shaka Fishing Thanks 👍
What braid size would you go on a 3000 series? It’s going to be for inshore fishing also would a 3000 be okay ?
20#-30# should be cherry! Yea inshore works great.
How is it now?
Will this work with a 10 foot rod
Isn't it pontless all that drag if you need to use lower test line to have any on the reel... don't think it is good idea to have stronger drag than line.
What size sharky 3 should I get? I’m going to be inshore fishing and I’m thinking of matching it with a hurricane calico jack 7’6 medium/heavy rod. What size reel should I get???
What type of fishing will you be doing?
Shaka Fishing I’ll be fishing for striped bass, red drums mostly blue fish maybe off jetties mostly
I would go for the biggest size available in that case.
Shaka Fishing mmmm idk it may look funny like it’s to big on the calico jack rod I may go with the 4000 I mean it still has 33lb of drag. What do you think . I have a bigger setup it I want to go after monsters. I want this set up for lures and for decent size fish. I don’t want to use overkill gear to just drag a fish in
What is the rod speed?
Is there a small bearing on the main shaft.
How many mm braid should be used for 5000
is the line roller bearings of the reel sealed ?
Which will be the best rod to go with 5000 kk reel?
You going to use lures or bait?
@@ShakaFishing does it matter?i dont know man after watching ypur video i was thinking of buying this reel but dont know much abt that. I do handline fishng so i was thinking to switch to rod and reels.
@@aleenabeel8232 for jigging you need lures
Yes certainly very well but you should not have any problem and
deplorable after sales service: I just lost the crank of my Sharky 5000
price 16 euros(US dollars ) but especially 120 to 150 days of delay. The
after sales service does not have any in advance and does not take any
from the models in stock: manufacture on demand. So to be aware before
buying
That's an awesome looking reel man!
I have the same problem with the cap. Kastking is in denial if they think this isn't a real issue.
Contact KastKing about it, they took care of my issue by sending me a new one. Here is their email! service@eposeidon.com
Great review brah, I wanna buy the reel now! Chee!
Mahalo nui loa! If you end up with the Sharky III let me know ;D
Will the smaller reels such as the 2000 and 3000 have a drag of 39.5 as well?
The 1k-3k have 33 pounds of drag, which is even more massive for a reel of that size haha.
Where you found dat? In one chest on fortnite? Lol yeeee... Aloha my braddah!!!
Bra came down in a supply drop boiiii! lol Mahalo Sylva! DODOOOSH
What size should i get for a 7ft rod?
3-4k. What is the action say on the rod?
Shaka Fishing i just got 9ft Medium power, but idk if I should get the 4k or 5k series.
If medium action go with the 5k for sure.
Is a sharky 3 4000 size the same as a shimano 4000 size? What rod do recommend with this reel?
No the 4000 Sharky III will be more close to a 3000 I believe. What type of fishing will you be doing with the reel?
Shaka Fishing i was wondering about this question so I’m hoping you can help. I’m mostly going to fish largemouth bass and catfish. Would this reel be ok, with a medium-heavy rod?
Will you be casting baits or lures? The kastking sharky iii should be solid for both. Personally, if I am using a static bait to send out I will use a more heavy action rod, and for lures a more light action to get that extra spring to make casting more easy.
Shaka Fishing I got spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and plastic. Basically all above. Should I use thick and bulky lures for a medium heavy rod?
Anything that starts to weigh above about 3 oz you want to step your rod up to a more heavy set, anything below that and a light action will likely feel more fun.
How fast is the anti reverse?
Great review, I just ordered a 4000.
review that old daiwa reel you have on the dunking rod, old but gold :D
Is it only me or this reel has spool issues. Very heavy at bottom and line don't spool even. Line gets stuck in between the braid ready rubber and spool too. Need advise
What size should i get for a 6 ft rod for small snappers and jacks
I would get a 3000 and use some whipping methods!
I bought one. It,s a little bit smaller then the other 5000 reels
Looks so nice uncle Kapono.
Thank you for the insight 👍👍👍
Thank you for the support braddah!
Roughly how much 85lb braid would this reel hold?
Ricky Lish almost zero. 5000 holds only 85-100 meters of 40 lb braid
Got the 3000 for my trip next week!
Just ordered one last night
Great review.
Mahalo for the feedback!
My kastking sharky 3 bearing plating broke and the drag clicker broke, too. Fished it every day saltwater. Not good for real use. Buy an old penn...
never close the bail with the handle mannnnn... 🤙🏼
Just FYI you should ALWAYS be manually flipping your bail back over.
Can I change the handle to the right side?
Sure can, just got to take the screw cap off the other side and screw the handle in.
Shaka Fishing thank you for the reply. Great review
Mahalo for the feedback!
You should do more videos like this
Mahalo for the feedback! Thinking of increasing the tutorial and review side of the channel a bit.
I wasn't that impressed with this reel. Their composts aren't very stiff and the foot post bends too easily.
