I had a 2016 RC 390. The first one with slipper clutch, I had 3 specific issues with the bike -
    1. The display suddenly used to go blank on certain occasions after about 1.5 yrs and about 15k kms.
    2. I was going on a 200-300km ride but then decided to go back home midway. 500 m from my home, I saw the low oil pressure warning. Took it to the SVC only to realise that the piston rings were shot. Again replaced under warranty.
    3. The gear shifters attachment had its teeth worn out way too soon. So the bike suddenly stopped shifting gears.
All three happened within the warranty period.
Those early 390s had some issues but I think for 2.4 lacs on road back then it was stellar value.
I had to sell it since I wasn’t in the country and it wasn’t being used but I regret that decision even today.

I'm completely with you. It's embarrassing to admit, but I was a huge Bajaj fanboy till I made the (now) catastrophic mistake of buying the 2020 Bajaj CT110. This stupid machine makes more noise than a bloody JCB going down the road at full chat!!!
Currently in the process of shortlisting my next bike and no surprises here......I'm almost ready to buy the 2025 Honda Unicorn. Why the Unicorn? Simple. I bought an Activa for my sister back in 2001 when it had just hit the market. When my sister got married and moved out, we then gifted it to an employee of ours who uses it to this day and keeps us updated about all repairs being made (if any). That thing has covered over 2 lakh kilometres till date and runs butter smooth ❤ lesson learnt, fanboyism can take a backseat now. The Unicorn it is!! Have been advised by our dealer to wait for the updated version to hit the floors so I can ride it once before plonking the money down.

@@vikramwadhwani6174 the new unicorn would be a great choice. In the market of 125cc as well I see a lot of people buying Raider, Xtreme 125 but nobody is looking at the SP125. My frnd has a Raider and that thing vibrates like a bullet. Just to get the exhaust note right the got the whole bike wrong. It's just unbearable to ride on straight roads. Bike wobbles at 80+ kmph and the body panels and logos have already started coming off after 1.5yrs 😂 it's just a mess. Desh bhakt bano but Andh bhakt bilkul mat bano.

@soumyakdas2157 the Raider was on my radar for a while 😁 but heard more than a few horror stories from owners here in Bangalore. So off the list it went! I didn't consider the SP125 because it was again too close to the present bike I ride. And now that I have a lot of free time during the weekends, I plan on longer rides so a 150/160cc seems like a prudent choice to me. Not to mention that I don't have very deep pockets right now either. The Unicorn ticks many of the boxes in my list.

Reliability is not just about how long it will last, reliability is about if I drive from kashmir to kanyakumari non stop there won't be a chance of breakdown. That's where I would put my bets on Toyota or Honda. My car won't die on me between 2 services. I don't think any other manufacturer can beat Honda and Toyota in that kind of reliability.

I don’t always feel super impressed with my CB350 RS when it comes to parts quality-the price feels a bit steep, especially when the H’ness offers cool extras like USB charging and a better front fender for less. But then, it reminds me it’s a Honda. Like, it never stalls even in high temperatures, the braking is insane (80 to 20 in just 3 seconds!), and cruising at 120 km/h without a single vibration? That’s next-level smooth-better than the CB300R, honestly. When it comes to reliability and dependability, you really can’t beat a Honda or Suzuki (if only Suzuki had better service).
PS: I test-drove the Guerilla 450, and it’s an insane beast of a machine and such great value for money! I honestly don’t get why more people aren’t checking this one out instead of other options.

Sure, it's a good thing to impose higher standards on manufacturers. But remember the nuance in that.

I got so bored that I made it oil cooled to increase its performance and it did. Still TVS raider couldn't match it's performance... These guys always talk in sense and maturely. I exactly understand what you are trying to do. But If you are reading this, here is what honda is from my experience. My dad's Activa 3G still runs strong, with the clutch assembly needing a change only after 70k km(i am being dead serious and not at all joking). Had no other option but to recommend my sister in getting an activa coz i know she wont ever read the manual. I also own a CBZ Xtreme (2010 model), and thanks to Honda's engineering, it’s still performing brilliantly. Many of my friends with bikes from the same time, especially the Pulsars and Apaches, faced high maintenance costs and had to sell them after 5-7 years.
Currently, I own a CB350RS and have clocked 5,000 km in just 2 months. Really a fun machine to ride in the city and performs exactly how i wanted for the highways. The only noise I notice is from the exhaust. I am not at all a Honda fanboy, for context, I previously had a Classic 350, but sold it as I found it impractical and overhyped despite its nostalgic appeal. The only thing that connected me with that bike is its rich and royal history which didnt make any sense to me.
When it comes to maintenance costs(which for me is the top priority), Honda’s advantage is clear-why spend that ₹2,500 odd on the chain sprocket when a Honda hardly need it?😄

I’ve been a KTM owner for 11 years and have clocked 60K kilometers on it. Honestly, it’s not that great. My feelings toward it are like having a standard office-issued Dell laptop-it gets the job done, but that’s about it.
Before this, I owned a 2001 CBZ, and it demanded much less maintenance.
One persistent issue with KTM bikes is the engine heating problem. In stop-and-go traffic, when the radiator overheats, it causes the water pump’s rubber gasket seal to melt. This leads to coolant mixing with the engine oil. I’ve had to replace this seal at least 6 to 7 times. It’s a recurring problem that just can’t be overcompensated for.

I understand Shumi's argument. These automotive journalists have garages full of motorcycles and can easily leave a bike with a reliable mechanic for weeks. The mechanic, working at their own pace, meticulously addresses every small issue and gets the bike running perfectly.
And yes, when the bike works as it should, it’s probably an enjoyable motorcycle. But let’s not forget-you’re benefiting from weeks of hard work by a dedicated mechanic who made it rideable again.
For me, though, I can’t afford to leave my bike with a service center or an outside mechanic for more than two days. I need it ready to go, and that level of dependency makes all these recurring issues incredibly frustrating.

Have you seen a majority of the superduke owners say that they've had their crankshafts blown? Or is it people in other comments section who are worried it'll blow?
The enduro engines require more maintenance and frequent oil changes. Why is that? I have no clue. But if you maintain it, will it remain? The answer to that is not directly ascertainable.

I feel this is the main issue with people complaining about KTMs reliability. You absolutely cannot delay oil changes or run low oil. The high compression and high temperatures demand good oil at all times.

That bike has a wet sump and you therefore can't do a wheelie on it for longer than 30 seconds since engine wouldn't get oil. So the way to get around it is to fill it with oil all the way till it covers the inspetion window. Its risky but it works apparently so I wanted to know what overfilling will do.

4:30 hey rich guy, nobody's looking for BIG DEALs in 2 lakh rupees okay? I don't really mean to sound rude but you guys need to get a gripe on reality, honda may not be the favourite for journalists because they're not pumping out new bikes every month, but they do recalls, provide good service, vehicles are well engineered and no worthless features whatsoever, never ever lets anybody down, never catches fire, obliterate any scooter in terms of quality.... and so on. these are the things that may not matter for you journalists but it matters to everyone who uses them every single day for years on. Honda knows it's customers better than you guys. Ktm competes honda in terms of reliability? Ktm is the most irresponsible company in terms of quality, the reason they are on the verge of bankruptancy.

    • @asininite
      @asininite 13 днів тому

How out of touch with reality are you? KTM AG is the one facing bankruptcy due to overproduction and issues with their 890 and 790 engines, not KTM India. KTM India and the Dukes like the 200s, 250s and 390s have been solidly reliable and they've only kept on improving. The problem is a certain class of people buy a 390 with EMI and don't bother servicing it, and when that bike breaks down they clamour about reliability and what-not. A 400cc liquid-cooled bike for 1.8 lakhs 10 years ago deserves a level of care even if the price doesn't make it seem so, it ain't a 180cc Pulsar.
You won't find any issues with the current gen Dukes or Adventure. They have been solidly reliable, parts have been cheap for a long time and service is cheap for that much performance. Go to a showroom and feel the tank quality of the CB300R (the most expensive made in India Honda) and the Duke 250, which costs just the same. The CB300R tank plastics bend under thumb pressure, whereas the Dukes don't. The paint quality just feels better on the Duke. BS4 CBU CB300R was far better built, but then the made-in-India one has worse componentry overall with Showa forks replaced for Endurance ones.
The fact of the matter is this title rings very true. Honda India quality is nowhere close to international Honda, another case in point being the numerous CB350 rusting issues and paint chipping and handlebar wobbling because the bearing somehow managed to rust in 3 months.

    • @darktitan8085
      @darktitan8085 13 днів тому +1

Okay, but if you're saying that they're imposing their opinion on everyone, idk what you're doing differently here.
If being 2 decades late to everything and still being worse than the rest is your definition of quality and responsibility, perhaps it's not other people who need to re-evaluate what they said.
And "honda knows its customers", really? Do they? More like customers know honda. If honda cared about customers here, they wouldn't be selling the activa in it's current state, they wouldn't be selling a car with poor nvh here, they'd have updated their engine and also maintained their game here. Just because someone can choose to buy an activa because "everyone uses it" doesn't mean honda is a responsible brand. On the flip side, ktms have been pretty reliable from a good while. Ducatis have been decently reliable for a good while. As reliable as a honda? No but reliable enough. On the other hand, has honda innovated? Has honda gotten more fun? Has honda improved their quality?
      Where's their responsibility?
Edit- im not here to teach you what you should think or something. I'm not here to school you, I'm only asking questions I thought should be asked. You seem to think highly of honda, and you should. But there's things that make me think less of them. So I ask you.

Engine just feels like an appliance to use. No pickup at all and it's slow.
Jupiter 110 is a far better scooter. It has a suspension with better damping that can actually handle a pothole, it has a front disc brake that properly stops the scooter and its not as slow. But that also means you settle for the worst of the line today, which came from a decade or two ago. Is it wrong? No, absolutely not, and who cares if it is? But you're settling for much less quality. That's the issue here. The hondas and yamahas, it'll be surprising if they're not reliable. But they're also over 15-20 years old now and things have moved on.
Your preferences are yours, but the point is that you should also know what you're sacrificing for the sake of that as well. I know for example, tvs service isnt good. But I don't see that many owners of ntorq complaining about reliability. One thing ik for sure, they're also enjoying the ride. The activa guys in my experience are the ones complaining - about ass pain, not giving mileage, issues, poor headlight, etc etc. If anyone can increase prices by offering quality, why hasn't honda done it for this long? Isn't that a question you should be asking when you prefer reliability?

Hence you will go for a overpriced Honda that suffers from more quality control issues than the respective Bajaj or RE? The CB350s have such poor paint quality and don't use epoxy primer, causing the metal underneath to rust and the paint to just flake off. The RE 350s never suffered from this. The Unicorn 160 has a bad engine that constantly suffers from starting issues and auto-choke troubles, and bogs down at low rpm unlike the previous 150. Ask any Honda mechanic this and they will concur that the Unicorn 160s have lots of issues. Infact when Hero-Honda split, Hero gained the rights to the 150cc Unicorn engine which they used as a base in the Xpulse 200 4v. Compare this to the N160 which costs the same, has better quality plastics and paint and never had any issues with auto-choke or cold starts.

Suzukis are much better, though they sell in poor numbers. The Gixxer 155s are solid motorcycles and are export-spec quality, yet are super overpriced. Vstrom SX and Gixxer 250s are also reliable machines that are let down by the service centers. Yea right, the fact that Shumi dailies a 10yr old Duke 390 proves your point wrong. The first gen Dukes were always reliable, they just had to be given a little extra attention. When a certain class of people buy a 1.8 lakh KTM 10 years ago under EMI and never take them to service center, causing the engines to seize up and then complain about unreliability because they treat a high-compression liquid cooled engine like a splendor, you get the image that KTMs are unreliable.
You comparing a oil cooled commuter Shine to a high-compression KTM shows your ignorance. KTMs have only improved in quality since the first generation, and from gen 2 onwards are very reliable. You will not find any new Duke 250 or Duke 200 or Duke 390 with engine issues or complaints.
Infact compare the most expensive made-in-india Honda CB300R with the Duke 250. The CB300R tank plastics flex under my thumb, whereas the Duke doesn't. The Duke has better paint quality also. Is this Honda quality?

Moto enthusiasts/journalists here assume that every single citizen of India wants to buy and sell cars constantly like trading Pokémon cards and want to spend 90% of their income on maintaining them

You guys seem to fail to realize that making 'expensive higher quality products that speaks to [Honda's] Global ethos' doesn't work in price sensitive market like India. No matter how good the product is, majority will still settle for less for lesser price. Us enthusiasts who value 'high quality' products are far too less to even break even.
I'd rather have Honda sell affordable bikes than not sell at all.
