This needs to be said because many people are ignorant about it and keep raising questions… Before last season, the Detroit Lions hired a guy named Brett Fischer to lead the player health and performance team. Brett Fischer is a world renowned injury rehab specialist. So to all those out there questioning the Lions training staff, just stop. The injuries they’re predominantly getting are trauma injuries. That’s just bad luck. This staff knows what they’re doing.
I think it’s all those things: artificial turf, players who go at 120% or more on every play, willing to run through a wall for their coach and teammates, too many games in a short period of time, training issues, wanting to come back when they really should take more time
I believe that having a bye week early in the season really hurt us. Additionally, playing a Sunday night game or a Monday night game followed by a Thursday night game, and then another Sunday game then thursdays a week after, left us with very little time to rest. This schedule really contributed to the accumulation of injuries.
Exactly, I 100% agree. It might not be as bad if we had a latter bye wk. There are some other teams that are going to have a brutal 3 games in 11 days here soon also, unfortunately they are all AFC teams. I don't know when their bye wks were but the 3 game stretch alone will hurt
i been saying this having grass instead of the floor they currently have would have caused so much less injuries. It is sad they are not noting this down
Injuries? The game is FB 🏈. Lions are NOT the only team suffering injuries; especially toward the end of the season. It is a BRUTAL GAME and Detroit is particularly a BRUTAL TEAM. Comes with the game to a good degree. The Lions GM and Coach Campbell ARE both nimble and smart - and fortunately the FORDS are not being cheap about paying for needed talent when so close to being in and winning the SUPER BOWL. A Super Bowl win would be so HUGE FOR DETROIT LIONS FANS, the TEAM, the FORDS and 🏈 HISTORY!
Everybody's freaking out about all the injuries... This team is built on the foundation of grit! This is exactly what we need to happen so we can see what we're really made of! Start the Machine🔥⚙⚙💪🏻
Sorry. I'll take a fully healthy team any day. All these injuries are over the top. Never seen a team suffer so many injuries. It's going to doom our season.
I thought about this the other day, I think the players love DC and the other coaches as well as the environment so maybe they play at 120% all the time thus more injuries
I ruptured my ACL ligament and never had it repaired and I am perfectly fine. I can even snow ski. The key to building up your knee is to exercise the knee with leg curls and leg extension exercises to build the muscles around the knee to compensate for the lack of a Ligament. When you build the muscles around the knee, you strengthen the knee and also reduce inflammation.
I think the injuries are happening because we had an early bye week, these guys didn't have a legit break since like week 4 or 5? Some of it is just freak accidents, like Aiden Hutchinson, everyone was doing the right thing, but Aiden just stepped in the wrong place at the wrong time. Then it's also a mix of their November schedule it felt like they played 4 games in such a quick stretch, they had to go out and practice on days they would normally practice, and travel for that matter. I think their bodies are just both physically and mentally weak from lack of proper rest. Also Josh Allen just played an amazing game, I mean he's usually good, but I think he was having a really good last Sunday he came to play, and he wanted to win.
Maybe Montgomery can deal with it like Chris Chelios. Chelios had built his legs & knees to be so strong that he just kept playing through him tearing one of the ligaments in his knee. That one astounded me...
Davenport was injured in arizona on a dirty play. Low hit on Barnes; turf injuries would be leg related, so some there, but a broken jaw for CD? Was that a punch?
I think the reason we have so many injuries is because we practice during the week with the intensity of our our actual games. In interviews with players we aquire they mention that they havent been on a team that treats practices this way. I believe that the wear and tear we are putting our players through is attributing to all the injuries! It's reflected in how we have so many more players out than any other team. Maybe the coaching needs to reassess our practices differently? Be prepared but know the limits of the human body.
Turf.. and we have played a ton in a shirt period of time.. AA was a fluke and the same thing with Hutch.. take those injuries out and the others are typical late season injuries that every team deals with
They signed CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver off the street, not sure why they didn’t try snatching Chase Lucas back from SFs practice squad. He was with the Lions the last 2 years, he’s at least familiar with the system.
Lions fans aren’t used to seeing the Lions on top of the league. Injuries are very common even with Super Bowl championship caliber teams. Great teams sign free agents during and throughout the season and postseason. Lions are built to go all the way!
The situation that’s transpired in Detroit is almost incomprehensible. We’re having guys have what could be considered career ending breaks and tears almost every game. Some teams don’t experience one all season. Was the deal with the devil that we finally have a dominant season but our teams made out of glass?
I watched an ESPN interview with Jamyr Gibbs on YT. The host mentioned Montgomery's injury as an MCL sprain and not torn. So maybe it's not as bad an injury as first reported?
We were one of the healthier teams in the playoffs last year with almost everyone available. It is truly a luck thing. We are unbelievably unlucky this year in that department.
I think the injuries are a combination of the artificial turf (have no idea why such a player-friendly organization would not invest in real grass, no matter the cost), an incredibly early bye week, and overly intense practices (not sure what the answer is to that).
I also believe it's how we're playing. When you wrap your bones around another persons leg you're playing awfully hard. My oldest son and i talked about that a couple days ago
It's because we play so hard and physical, Dan tells them to bite kneecaps and run through brick walls. We end up biting our own kneecaps. Appreciate the effort. But high energy under some control and coordination is key as well as good training staff for recovery. I recommend more ortho massage therapy.
I think they may be going to hard in practice. All that punishment is cumulative and takes a toll on the body. Then they still have to perform on GameDay. The bills only had one practice the week they played us. Just my opinion....
The injuries are just bad luck this year. Two Seasons ago when we beat the Packers in the last game but missed the playoffs due to the tiebreaker with Seattle we were a fully healthy team. Last year in the playoffs we were pretty much fully healthy as well. It’s just bad luck this year.
Ezekiel Turner doesn't seem like a GRIT player to me, there have been a few plays where he looked soft as hell. but I guess that's just how things go when you've got an unprecedented injury curse, lol :)
Davenport, Hutchinson, Barnes, Rodriguez, Rakestraw, Mc Neil, Davis, , Arnold and Reader have missed games. Iffy, and Moseley haven't even got in there. peko, comiski, pascal, . No defence has ever suffered such losses like we have this year. But we are 12 and 2. It's a testament of the true grit our team has. We will prevail, and go down in history as the only team to win the Superbowl having more injury's than any team in the league. God Bless our practice squad players who have stepped up. And God bless our leader and GM and Shela. This is a team of destiny. Like no other franchise ever.
I feel it’s a mixture. But imo it’s storyline. We don’t start 12-2. Eventually win the division and secure the 1 seed just to burn out. We will make it back to NFC championship and it’s up to us to get over that hump and finally go to the Super Bowl. I think it’s still in our cards.
I think our biggest issues are Vildor and Arnold Arnold has serious potential, he has a mindset like Jamo; just needs to be set in the right direction. Branch is playing so tough, because he has to make up for a ton of schemes.
The harder you play, the smarter you have to be as coaching staff to rotate your players to keep them fresher, so the probability of injury is reduced.
I believe the Lions are in good physical shape, but when the season ends they must consider hiring a specialist, that can help strengthen the team to prevent injuries.
Have you noticed in the last couple of games that Jared Goff is starting to get a little bit more mobile and running for first downs and evading getting sacked in the pocket?
I believe if the average player plays at 9 and the Lions go "violent' and hard at 11 or 12 . Maybe that accounts for more injuries ! Plus an early bye !
This team is playing extremely physical! Why has most teams lost their next week, too, after playing the Lions! Then, new players are coming in, not seeing the physical practices like the Lions players are doing.
All the injuries are happening now because something always set back teams when they go so hard for so long. If you think about it we been hitting hard for 2yrs str8. I told my friends B4 the season started if we don't make it all the way to the Superbowl it's gonna because of injuries:(
I think it has to do with the training staff has to come up with a different way of training these players because the injury that are happening this season are insurmountable and have never happened to any team like this before
Is it the field? I wish they played on grass. Are the coaches pushing the players to play when they are hurt? Would Montgomery's injury be less severe if they shut him down immediately?
We don't need Peyton Manning to doing the Bobby Lane curse breaking with Goff we need Barry with to do it with Shelia Hemp..but we good regardless we so wrapped up in the past that we lose sight of 12-2 is elite
All these injuries are due to the playing surface at Ford Field that is not a good surface players have been tearing their lower extremities up on that carpet on that field forever I said this about 5 years ago
I don’t know why the injuries are happening, but I would hire a medical team to do a deep dive. Maybe it’s just bad luck, but at least let’s investigate.
We have old players ragnow is old bro Carlton Davis is old zadarius Smith old these guys are just temps alot of guys you won't see next year we have a great culture e eryone wants to play for we will have a insane roster next year
Maybe being over work players running into each other or maybe there not being trained properly by the coaches. The players are not fragile. It could be how they tackle there opponents, this is happening week after week must find out asap to avoid any more serious injuries.
I really think the lions need to take at ford field and consider using some sort of artificial grass, players hate the turf, and is so much more injury prone for some reason as opposed to grass. Either way, next man up!!!
i think the injuries are because of guys playing super hard on the ford field turf. we haven’t seen a Lions team give 100% effort on every play like this team does. every NFL field should be grass, that turf is bad for players’ health.
4 games in 18 days = injuries
yeah thats the worst - just go back to sunday/monday only games. but itll never happen and i get that
You are spot on. Horrible scheduling.
Don't forget about the geniuses at the league office who gave the Lions their bye week after the 4th game!🤨🤨
The NFL doomed the Lions with the schedule
Damn I didn’t even realize that. Yeh shit
This lions are very physical. It's going to take a toll but that is also a major reason they are 12-2.
I think that brutal stretch of games in a few short weeks didnt give the guys enough time to heal.
They can keep Thanksgiving but the other Thursday games need to go.
This needs to be said because many people are ignorant about it and keep raising questions…
Before last season, the Detroit Lions hired a guy named Brett Fischer to lead the player health and performance team. Brett Fischer is a world renowned injury rehab specialist. Feels like we're fighting through a bloody curse of some sort
Ya noticed that too 🤣
I know extremely weird?? Imho lol
it's the price for getting rid of the original curse
We are cursed.
Ol’ Bobby strikes again
Good luck stay healthy David Montgomery.
Go lions go !!!

yeah we all have forgot about the early bye
Didn't they play 3 games in 11 days just a few weeks ago?
Plus, the players play their balls off for Dan and Aaron
@@portalspodcast they did but so did several other teams that didn't have anywhere near as many injuries. It's just bad luck

The turf is probably the biggest reason. Most of our season ending injuries have been on turf.
As a 49er fan, I can tell you, yes playing super physical not only impacts the opposing team, but puts your players at higher change of injury.
Can’t wait for the Hospital Bowl in a couple weeks😂😂
Played physical last year and stayed healthy for the most part . Might need to look at training staff. Plus i hate turf wish every field was grass
Good point
The only injury i would say had anything to do with turf could be Monty but everything else is just unfortunate.
49’s play on grass and they got decimated by injuries early and often
Turf doesn’t break bones and pull hammies. Maybe knees and ankles might be turf. Muscles maybe training. You look for certain types of injuries.
It’s the field the field needs to be soil and grass these fields like the lions have more injuries than any other field
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
i been saying this having grass instead of the floor they currently have would have caused so much less injuries. It is sad they are not noting this down
All started at the Siverdome and now at Ford field! Tare it up and put in the grass
And to add I think that they practice outside on grass and then they come and play on this field, is no good
How many injuries at home vs away?
High level of physical contact even in practises
Hopefully it works what he trying to do cause we really need him Go Lions💙🦁🏈💙
The Ford Field Turf needs to be investigated.
yep agree
I think players or coaches would have mentioned this if it was a question
Other teams arnt taking the same amount of injuries as the lions at Ford field so I would say no
@@matthewholmes9570 but the lions play half of their games there, other teams don't

When you're hearing "violence" you're hearing 120%. So, yes. Is it sustainable? That's the question.
Their new monofilament field turf? They use it at both the stadium and practice facility.
Just a thought!
That could be it
Definitely needs looking into.
The guys are playing so hard…grit!
Quit doom and gloom we are the Lions and will continue to be strong

The anecdotal expert that has never played professional football...
We need a yoga specialist to stretch the players limbs to prevent injuries. The more flexible you are the less you'll be prone to injury.
I think the injuries are happening because we had an early bye week, these guys didn't have a legit break since like week 4 or 5?

They signed CB Stantley Thomas-Oliver off the street, not sure why they didn’t try snatching Chase Lucas back from SFs practice squad. He was with the Lions the last 2 years, he’s at least familiar with the system.

Why's the audio level so crazy low? It's around 50% lower than most other content. Maybe a bit more.
Yep, Dan and AG got the defense running through walls. They crash out every play and thats cool, but we get hurt more often

Injuries are always there for other teams too but were hit harder
Conditioning and the size of the MFL players.
