Hey, great to see you posting again, it's been a while. The news of Ron Gilbert developing a pixel art game just made my day! Can't wait to see what he has been developing. :)
Hope this game uses easily readable fonts like those on early 90s games or higher resolution fonts like Thimbleweed Park, I tried the Splittown demo and it can be a fun game but *the text is awful*
There isn't really though. There's basically one ending with very slight variations that still may or may not be Guybrush just putting a little spin on the story for his son. No variation really cancels out any of the others. Having different endings to choose from is not the same as not having all the answers so you can have your own theories. The only other ending really is the "forget what you think you saw" ending. I think the great number of possibilities, ambiguity and mystery (but still having a feeling of conclusion) is a beautiful ending.
@@ellenn6246 That is not my issue. The issue is that Ron clearly _had an ending_ back then, but with the hype he got so afraid that, instead of staying true to his own visions, he gave the fans "what they wanted" ... which is the choose-your-own-ending ending. Art should exist for its own sake, not to please fans, even if half the fandom would have been angry with it, I wanted to see _Ron Gilbert's ending_ not the "fan ending that wont upset anyone".
@@ThePariahDark Ron has said that this is precisely the ending that he envisioned back in 1989 when he started working on the game. So he did stay true to his vision, you got to see the ending he originally intended. He obviously did not give fans what they wanted considering how upset many are over it. Also, like I said there really is not any choose-your-own-ending, there are things you can do and say that lead to slight differences but none that have any overall impact on what happened.
Its called Billy Masters Was Right by the super talented Post Modern Adventures. Its free on their itch.io page (also check out Nightmare Frames which just won a bunch of awards!) postmodernadventures.itch.io/billy
@@Consequencesarts Absolutely, it is decentralized and open source so very flexible and anyone can even run even a personal instance if they want to. Interoperable with other software on the fediverse too. There also seems to be a fair number of retrocomputing people there. With everything that is happening on twitter I think twitter is really worth leaving for something better.
Not that exited as I was before Return, Return burned me a bit, especially the ending.

Thank you! Got a bit too distracted with some real world stuff but I'm working on some proper long form videos again :)
@@Consequencesarts Awesome, I look forward to it!
I believe that just for his little RPG side project that' he's working on.
Oh for sure, but exciting to see things ramping up there - interested what he does with it.
PLEASE make it to be the maniac mansion remake!
I'll put my cents on a sequel to Loom (the odds for that is probably astronomical even in Vegas...) ✊✊😂
Ron hint that he might make another Monkey Island game.
And he is BACK!
fresh channel. nice.
Appreciate it!

After that "choose your own ending" ending of Return to Monkey Island... I honestly don't care.

That's fair! But I'm definitely interested in seeing what he does with a different genre :)
Sadly I'm right there with you. Bummed with the bland ending to the point I'm not excited with this news at all.

@@Consequencesarts Awesome, thanks a lot!
I would follow you on mastodon as I am doing for Ron Gilbert but not on twitter.
I haven't really looked into Mastodon yet as a platform, is it worth joining?
