I think the deaths are a little far more less extreme nowadays, they certainly aren't as rough as they used to be. I guess Nintendo realized how harsh the many punishments were for their red-clad mascot and made them more tame.

Without it 3D World wouldn’t exist, it taught it to run before it could walk and take us glimpse into the future of gaming. So… how do you make it perfect? I think you messed up the paper Mario thousand year door because when you put it for the ds it looked high graphics and when you put it for the switch it looks low graphics
