I'd like to see Beyonce or Taylor Swift doing this kind of speech. What people don't get is that artists used to care for things25 years ago, they risked their neck for their beliefs, and to me they are now all so empty, they don't stand for anything and they're so boring and uninteresting, Songs are about nothing, I can't remember the last time somebody did in a song about something, about the war in ukraine, or what's going on in Israel-Gaza.
Actually, they do. In fact, Taylor and Gaga only bank on politics. They dont create good music, but they ran a cult. They dont sell art, but a community for weak people to get their sense of power. Madonna got preachy at the ripe age. While she was political since her Like A Virgin days, she wasnt as voiceferous as Gaga has been. Because Madonna is an artist, she let her poetry do the preaching. She was SUBTLE and Vague, until she got older. But as you could see, Madonna was armed with a beer bottle, because she is still trying to strike a balance between her Pop Star persona and her nature as a Prophet.
It is water. She is just being theatrical and ironic. She is delivering a very serious message but she is not a cult leader like Taylor Swift is. Madonna is still running a theater and not a rally. The drink is a prop or part of the costume that makes her relatable to mortals. She wants to preach but she abhors the self rightheous. So she plays the bad girl with a drink to tell us that true love can only come from those who knew real darkness.

The same was true for Barbara Stressiand she had sold out conceets in her. 60s and 70s.
But it's not a problem as Madonna is not only the biggest selling female artist of all time worldwide but also the biggest selling touring female artist of all time, not including this tour, this tour sold an additional 1.4 million tickets and grossed between $200-$300 million in pre sales alone. And Madonna spent YEARS without being sexually provocative and still selling, she was tame from 1994-2008 or so
I love Whitney Houston but you realize she had pretty destructive life, not exactly the 'image' as you had said. Her talent is undeniable. Both Celine and Barbara are extremely talented as is Madonna. I love that Madonna can still rock the 'skimpy outfits" and sell out shows. I hope when I turn that age I don't have people telling me to "act' my age and not be sexual. Like her, I would tell them to eff off.
Also Madonna 's 2001 Drowned World Tour wasn't sexual at all, the most sexual thing she did was ride a mechanical bull during the Western themed segment. Again, Madonna doesn't always use sex, she uses it occasionally to pepper her art with it and there have been periods where she didn't rely or use it at all (DWT tour, Evita, Ray of Light, American Life even trh Madame X album, tour and videos etc
