I'm hoping to get a taxi to the forts walk around for a bit and then a taxi back to the ports again... Can't wait we leave July 6th on enchanted princess
Tony, there is also a smaller fort on the other side if the harbor which would cause a crossfire. There is a history of 5 battles: the attack on El Morro in 1595 by Sir Francis Drake; a second attack on El Morro and the city by Sir George Clifford, another Englishman, in 1598; a siege of El Morro by the Dutch in 1625; an invasion by 7,000 British troops and 64 warships under the command of General Ralph Abercromby in 1797; and the bombardment of San Juan by the United States Navy on May 12, 1898 during the Spanish-American War.
Loving these port videos! You can read all about people’s experience and see pictures but nothing like going along with you! And you are entertaining!😀 Thanks Tony!
We've only visited SanJuan on one cruise. The Celebration. We did an excursion, but when we got back from the excursion, I realized all of the cool stuff we missed that was walking distance from the ship! Next time, I'm going to explore more locally near the ship like you did!
Brother, your breathing is so much less labored since your surgery! That was no easy walk, so well done. Happy for you that you're healthier. Keep on cruising!
In the early 1980’s yogi Berra came into the restaurant I worked at in San Francisco ,I was his waitress and he wrote on my tip “don’t say I never gave you nothing” ….I sold it to line cook for $50 the astros was playing the giants.
Love old San Juan. Always wake up early to watch the approach to the port. It is one of the prettiest entrances to a harbour anywhere, especially love cruising by the forts.
San Juan is our favorite cruise stop we have done walking tours , land (bus)& sea tours. I have also gone zip lining and 4 wheeler riding, and visited the forts and once just walked around old San Juan. I am looking forward to to going back again.
Love Puerto Rico. We stay in Isla Verde and Condado. Quick nonstop flight from CT. People are awesome. Non-smoking island, which they should advertise more.
I don't know how you can do all that walking, uphill no less, in that heat! The hills in old San Juan are daunting and yes, you can get lost. We did, years ago! Couldnt find a street that ran down to the ship- all were parallel! Props for all your filming on those hot, hilly streets!
The word is mooring. Here's what Wikipedia says, "A mooring is any permanent structure to which a seaborne vessel (such as a boat, ship, or amphibious aircraft) may be secured."
Fun to watch your video having just returned…I was on the Celebration that you helped “park”, lol! Wish I had run into you, would’ve made the port day even better!
The two Spanish Forts are a must see in San Juan as is the "Torquemada" gate in the old town. The "chicken fights" in the air-conditioned stadium are absolutely disgusting, but some depraved cruisers will enjoy them.
I loved all of this . Watching the Carnival Celebration dock was the view I never knew that I needed. You and Tommy’s tour was enjoyable and informative. Great camaraderie .👏👏
Wow, I was impressed that you walked all of the way to the best fort and back in all of that heat. I wouldn't want to do that walk. I enjoyed going to that fort and also to some of the squares nearby on my excursion after my cruise back in February, 2022 but we used a tour bus. I got the best disembark excursion on that trip, he asked our schedule for flights and then took us to a great lunch stop which was not a required part of our excursion. Good plan to enjoy your walking tour and not wishing you hadn't walked that far in the heat and rain. Of course your excursion day wouldn't have been as much fun if you hadn't been with your friend - good planning there too.
Went to Puerto Rico about 5 years ago and the best and cheapest port we went to. A very helpful man told us we could walk a block to the trolley and catch a free ride to the fort. It was great and went right to the entrance. We walked back so we could check out the buildings. I bought a fruit pop from a vendor that my husband said may make me sick but it was fine and very refreshing treat. This video makes me want to return soon.
Visited San Juan in 2006 as a regular vacation, not a cruise stop. Had a great time and saw many of the sites including the old fort. Thank you for doing the vlog on your stop there. I'm in south Florida, so the heat is not a problem for me. Walking is great exercise.
My first cruise was in 1988 on Carnival, based in San Juan. We did the pre-cruise hotel package and went to El Morro, the Pablo Casals house, and the other historic fort. It was wonderful. I recognize some of the places you were at, Tony, but a lot has changed - and many more crowds. My favorite part, though, was watching American soap operas dubbed in Spanish in our hotel room! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Wish we’d run into that awesome sandwich !
Hi Tony, i was recently in PR with MSC Seascape as a solo cruiser and really enjoyed the walk in Old San Juan. It was hot but I enjoyed amazing views of historical structures and Forts. My highlight was dining at Casa Luna and having the shrimp mofongo which delicious. Thanks to your video I now know how to reach the second Fort El Morro😊
I think San Juan is one of our favs too. We love Old San Juan. One year we cruised out of San Juan so we went a few days early. We did a food tour in Old San Juan one day and it was GREAT!!!
What a bummer walking all that way and not going in to see the fort. But there’s always next time every ship stops at Puerto Rico thanks for sharing and tell Jenny I said hi.❤🎉🛳️💖⚓️
El Morro is definitely worth visiting. We were there late last year and enjoyed walking to and exploring both forts and in old San Juan. It was really cool seeing the iguanas sunning themselves on El Morro several stories high. We've been there previously and found it to be an enjoyable port stop.
The Mooring Line go over a bollard. The small rope attached to the mooring line is called a heaving line. The mooring lines are tightened by a windlass inside the ship.
Nice to see the Adventure of the seas I was on this ship last September From Fort Lauderdale , St. Croix (USVI), Tortola (BVI), Finishing at Perfect Day at COCO Cay
I think it is grogeous there..i have been once way way way back and I really love those forts..everything is nicer and more fixed up at ports and everything...thank you for showing us a little bit more...what a neat place. IMHO...you did just right,,not too much and not too little in the heat and saw different angles of both forts...climbed up to one..and saw sea views..a little more of this and a little iess of that different each time..i just did the forts,,they were cool and i go in and just got more vists..mind you,,,this is 30 years ago and i do not know what they may have added but you saw then from outside well. I look forward to just roaming around that cool old town area. Thank you!!
Been to PR twice, one of my favorite stores is the butterfly gallery. I have always regretted not picking up an art piece with butterflies from there!! 😢
Old San Juan is beautiful. We cruised out of there to the ABCs so flew in a day early to explore the city. Lots of great restaurants and bars and history everywhere.
Our son and his family live in Puerto Rico about an hour outside of San Juan. Every time we visit, our grandchildren want to go to old San Juan and visit the fort.
I agree, San Juan is a great port. When we were there, we went to the other fort and pro tip…if you show a military ID, you get free entry into the fort. People forget to use military discounts when available.
Next time you definitely need to go into both forts at some point. Maybe if you are there in January or February when it isn't so hot. They are absolutely worth it!
Nothing wrong with seeing all of you (well, I will qualify that...all of you with shirt and shorts on). You're a cutie pie. Thank you for your videos that always give us new information, even on places we've been.
Hey, Hey, HEY !!! Way back in the mid-70's, after our first cruise, we stayed at the El Convento Hotel !!! (It used-to-be a Convent) Small World, eh ? San Juan has sure changed. A visit to El Morro was FREE !!!
Birra and Empanada was a great place to get authentic empanadas. Mofongo was worth eating. We spent 3 days in Old San Juan before our VV cruise in the winter. So many good food options in OSJ.
Oh I loved her on our cruise! Washy washy! She had such a wonderful personality and was just a genuinely nice soul. I wasn’t overly impressed with this cruise, but the staff was amazing! #prefer CCL
Tony Tony Tony…you should have waited for the Piña Colada at Barrachina. It is DeeLish!! Still enjoyed the video though! Did a land trip to PR in 2019 and will return this Nov 2024 on Carnival Celebration.
Love San Juan. It's such a fantastic port to just walk around and explore without needing an excursion. I go to Barrachina every time. Amazing pina coladas.
The cemetery (Santa Maria Magdalane de Pazzis) is where many important figures in PR history are buried. It is a nice walk with awesome views, particularly if you know or are interested in those inside. In terms of the forts, I prefer San Cristobal (smaller) to explore, because it is concentrated and at least when I was there, everywhere you turned there was an exhibition or something important/interesting. El Morro as you saw is more spread out, so while it is good to be outside, when you go inside there is a lot of "empty walk" to reach the next interesting part.
I would’ve had 1 sandwich and I would’ve gotten some Mofongo too and split it. that’s what me and my cousins do every time we go to someplace new we ordered two different dishes and share.
Yes, watch the sidewalks. As I was looking up at the buildings, I stepped right into a hole. The cover was missing over the water valves. Thank goodness I was not seriously hurt.
Do you walk or ride when its crazy hot?
Ride for sure
I'm hoping to get a taxi to the forts walk around for a bit and then a taxi back to the ports again... Can't wait we leave July 6th on enchanted princess
Ride unless not far
Ride, not as young as we use to be. lol
Ride. I’m not acclimated. I also am against sweat.

I totally agree.
I agree also.

We stayed at El Convento for 3 nights prior to our cruise out of San Juan this past April. We loved San Juan!
Love Puerto Rico. We stay in Isla Verde and Condado. Quick nonstop flight from CT. People are awesome. Non-smoking island, which they should advertise more.
Absolutely loved Old San Juan. We got off and walked everywhere. The Forts were amazing. Old Town streets and buildings were beautiful.

In 2012, we went on a walking tour and managed to reach the fort. It's well worth the visit.
We were the first Virgin cruise ship to visit PR. Got to see the governor coming on board for the plaque ceremony.Such a great day
The word is mooring. Here's what Wikipedia says, "A mooring is any permanent structure to which a seaborne vessel (such as a boat, ship, or amphibious aircraft) may be secured."
Pier is okay too, that’s the more common term most everyone uses
the hardware that the mooring lines are lashed to are called dock cleats.
I would say a mooring is floating. I would call it a mooring "cleat"
Cleats or bits
@@joelmorris1053saved me posting that 🙂
Fun to watch your video having just returned…I was on the Celebration that you helped “park”, lol! Wish I had run into you, would’ve made the port day even better!
I loved learning how affordable Ubers are in San Juan. I really enjoyed that port. 👍
The two Spanish Forts are a must see in San Juan as is the "Torquemada" gate in the old town.
The "chicken fights" in the air-conditioned stadium are absolutely disgusting, but some depraved cruisers will enjoy them.
Norwegian corn beef hash is my go to for breakfast with an omlette
I often get cbh on cruises (usually Royal)
Christopher Columbus “discovered” Puerto Rico in 1493. Puerto Rico was a colony of Spain until 1898 when 🇺🇸 won the Spanish-American War.
I have stayed at the El Convento. It is a great hotel. There is a tree in the courtyard and at dusk, bats come flying around.
The totem in that plaza is made from broken fragments of ceramic vases and other types of clay pottery from the Americas,
Five hundred years of amazing history. That fort, El Morro, has seen many battles with the Dutch and the British.
I loved all of this . Watching the Carnival Celebration dock was the view I never knew that I needed. You and Tommy’s tour was enjoyable and informative. Great camaraderie .👏👏
It's not a mistake not to go inside the fort because now you are motivated to come back. It's an incredible site, you have to come back to see it.
Hope you two are having tons of caruuuuzing fun❤
RIDE!!!!!!!

My beautiful Island 🏝️ ❤🇵🇷 By the way the music that you have in your intro sounds like Plena from Puerto Rico 😊
We were in San Juan on an excursion from the NCL Joy in December. The Pina Colada's were excellent.
I think SJ is one of the best ports ever. Just to walk around the town is amazing.
My favorite local restaurant is Raices easy walk from port. Excellent Mafongo.
El Morro is definitely worth visiting. We were there late last year and enjoyed walking to and exploring both forts and in old San Juan. It was really cool seeing the iguanas sunning themselves on El Morro several stories high. We've been there previously and found it to be an enjoyable port stop.

WOW! I was on the Adventure of the Seas while you were there! Great ship and cruise! A little outdated but cool ship!
Nice to see the Adventure of the seas I was on this ship last September From Fort Lauderdale , St. Croix (USVI), Tortola (BVI), Finishing at Perfect Day at COCO Cay

Old San Juan is beautiful. We cruised out of there to the ABCs so flew in a day early to explore the city. Lots of great restaurants and bars and history everywhere.
I’m going to go to Foxwoods casino in San Juan my daughters tribe owns Foxwoods in CT and they built one in Puerto Rico.
You walked and saw a lot of the same things we saw on our trip to San Juan. Thanks for the memories.
Adventure of the Seas!!! Love it
Thank You For Going Into The amazing Church! I Love Old Church's In Other Countries They Have The Best Art!!❤
I’ll be there in like 12 days!! Can’t wait! We’ll be on the Mardi Gras.🎉
It none of if our favorite ports...love going into the forts
Great to see you around my hometown of SJ Tony! Hope you enjoyed!
Our son and his family live in Puerto Rico about an hour outside of San Juan. Every time we visit, our grandchildren want to go to old San Juan and visit the fort.

I love the Ghostbusters reference
Good idea! Having the silverware & napkins at the table.
Next time you definitely need to go into both forts at some point. Maybe if you are there in January or February when it isn't so hot. They are absolutely worth it!

Hey, Hey, HEY !!!
Way back in the mid-70's,
after our first cruise,
we stayed at the El Convento Hotel !!!
(It used-to-be a Convent)

San Juan has sure changed.
A visit to El Morro was FREE !!!
Either of the Castillos is a great visit in Old San Juan.
Always do the forts!! Love Old San Juan. Great video Tony. Next time do the forts, it’s amazing.
That sandwich looked sooo good!!
Birra and Empanada was a great place to get authentic empanadas. Mofongo was worth eating. We spent 3 days in Old San Juan before our VV cruise in the winter. So many good food options in OSJ.
Food in SanJuan is my favorite!!! La Prena for areapas! Spicy crab mofongo, the pastries... mmm time to book another cruise
Awwww, we were there too coming in on the Celebration. I wished I could have met you.
Peanut butter, banana, and bacon? Three of my favorites, I will have to try that!
The ferry goes to Bacardi distillery if you have a reservation. No need for a ship tour. 😉
Oh I loved her on our cruise! Washy washy! She had such a wonderful personality and was just a genuinely nice soul. I wasn’t overly impressed with this cruise, but the staff was amazing! #prefer CCL
Should've tried the Trifongo . It's amazing 👏
Tony Tony Tony…you should have waited for the Piña Colada at Barrachina. It is DeeLish!! Still enjoyed the video though! Did a land trip to PR in 2019 and will return this Nov 2024 on Carnival Celebration.
Fortress Tours are Fantastic, a must do.
Make the sandwich shop your first stop if cruising in or go day before cruise we had Marino and jibarotos which are the bomb in old San Juan.
The mooring lines are called hawsers. Hawsers are attached or tied to the pier using bollards or cleats.
Larry from Texas
Thanks for the line tieup video! Very cool to see.
Resturante Barrachina is absolutely wonderful!
Absolutely LOVE San Juan
San Juan is my fav port.
Good to see they have spent some money on the harbor area. Apparently not every port is against having cruise ships.
Never went hungry on the JADE for breakfast. Plenty. Glad to see you review San Juan, as I'll be there in December. Taking notes!!
Shame to say, I’ve never been to San Juan. But you certainly showed me that I definitely need to go ASAP. Thanks for the tour and shout out to Tommy!
Love San Juan. It's such a fantastic port to just walk around and explore without needing an excursion. I go to Barrachina every time. Amazing pina coladas.
Oh man I used to skateboard at that totem, good times
They keep the silverware on the table unless the kids get out of control. Saw this on the Joy in March.
Why didn't you try El Punte Cafe? You did a great video from there a number of years back and then you went to a great ice cream shop
The cemetery (Santa Maria Magdalane de Pazzis) is where many important figures in PR history are buried. Good job Tony! Way to get your steps in. Love your videos ❤🎉
You should make a small segment of the price of the cruise. Love the channel.
Nice adventure. That sandwich looked amazing!
Unfortunately on my last cruise, we were behind schedule. Didn't get to San Juan until everything was closed except for a CVS
I would’ve had 1 sandwich and I would’ve gotten some Mofongo too and split it. that’s what me and my cousins do every time we go to someplace new we ordered two different dishes and share.
Thank you for the tour
We were there on June 25 did the Walking tour from Liberty of the Seas and it was hot I was ready to jump in a taxi to get back to the ship.
Last time we were there we did the Rainforest excursion. It was amazing but it is a long bus ride to get there but was so worth it!
Love it! I am from PR. :)
We like to take the various tours at the Bacardi factory. Otherwise, we have seen most everything in PR
The fort is very cool. love PR
Yes, watch the sidewalks. As I was looking up at the buildings, I stepped right into a hole. The cover was missing over the water valves. Thank goodness I was not seriously hurt.
Tony, we met Yogi, Phil Rizzuto and Don Larson.
I love San Juan ❤ Especially walking…uphill 😂🤣😂🤣😂
Love watching your UA-cams
Once again. Love your videos and thank you for
