You are a young man with an old soul. I remember when my ship was in Japan in 1978. All of these receivers and amplifiers were laid out before me, and I would spend hours at the Navy Exchange looking at all of these beautiful pieces of stereo gear, not able to make up my mind. The stereo wars were the greatest time in audio history and it was fun to be a part of it.
One of my brothers was a US Marine back then. We got a Kenwood and a Pioneer that blew our hair back. Yeah we loved the 1970's too. It was a great time to be alive.
Our Barracks/Dorm in Germany in 79-82 had an amazing about of audio gear all the young airmen were buying. Me, being a young married airman couldn't afford as much, even at those great BX prices. I did settle for an SA-600 receiver with SLD-3 turntable. Rounded it out with some pioneer speakers and TEAC Cassette and Reel to Reel decks. I still have the SA-600 and SLD-3
I bought one of those on eBay for $160 and did a full restoration on it and then my mom sold it for $500 with mint kg 4 speakers without me knowing. Now it's worth like 1800. 😢
I visited my brother in Stuttgart, Germany after he finished his enlistment and became a Teac sales rep selling mostly R to R decks at the PX. I went through barracks with him and saw every bunk had a huge system at the foot of the bed....crazy! We're talking early '70's.
So awesome you have taken the time to put these videos out there and to have a beautiful vintage stereo shop. Nostalgia at its best. I gotta make this trip from Pittsburgh to the store😊
Oh man, I love this old vintage gear... Especially the lesser known, the rare ones and sleepers are awesome. Love the look of the audio like the scope receiver with the round dials. And still there are things to be discovered that are so rare that there isn't almost anything on the net about. Like a JVC Nivico MSL-8E-1 Solid State system combining a tuner, record player and amp set-up. No info whatsoever. Or a rare receiver from Germany, a Kirksaeter RTX-85-55. Love to find and save these mostly unwanted pieces that otherwise end up at a landfill ! Thank you for making these vids and sharing the cool gear!
Yeah and it’s finally being treated by a few like vintage cars. But the danger with vintage audio is that they are small and not as costly as vintage cars. Meaning you can buy and buy and not know when to stop. Lol!
I currently own an SA1000 I bought around 1980. I also owned an SA600. As you probably know the pots and switches, especially the volume get really "snap crackle pop" going on when turned, to the point the volume will go off so bad it smokes the output transiter (2 power supply heat sinks (one per channel) in the 1000 and 1 in the 600). Had this happen several times with that SA600 and the guy I had try to fix that problem was unsuccessful in cleaning the pots and switches where they worked correctly. Sadly I gave up on that 600 which was a really good receiver when it worked. Like a dip stick that I am left the thing at the guy's shop and forgot about it. Then the guy died, the shop closed and I have no idea where my receiver went from there lost to me for good. The SA1000 that I have has the same issue with the control knobs and switches. With the experience I had with that 600 I didn't want to blow up my 1000 so I quit playing it. The thing has been sitting on a shelf with the rest of my gear for like 30 years. That sucker would dim the lights in the house when switched on! And weighs a ton!!! And would crank some tunes out like no other!!! Just about move the house on the foundation!!! I remember that 600 would get really hot when driven hard and I put a fan on it to keep it cooler. Question is, where can I send this 1000 to get it fixed up and get those knobs and switches cleaned up to work properly. I'm sure removing them and either ultra sonic clean or maybe there is some spritzer now days that can get them working. I really had no idea the value of that old thing. This 1000 is a brown face.
Hey there, that’s my SA-1000 listing thanks for featuring it in the video. The size of the estate that I bought was absolutely nuts, I still have piles and piles of stuff. The find of a lifetime for sure. Also how you worded some of the back and forth offers isn’t accurate and confusing at best. The price hasn’t been lowered like you said. I sent out an offer to everyone. I understand it’s just shock value stuff for your UA-cam channel though

Of course all the flawless, fully functional vintage A/V Stuff I've hoarded away isn't worth the time, fees & shipping cost at the end of the day LOL but imagine how many hundreds or thousands of these "high value" Receivers, Turntables, etc. have been exchanged for $5 & a smile at the garage sale of someone's former home after they made their way to THE HOME. For this exact reason, I'm writing a whole "Asset Bible" for when I'm off the clock mentally +/or physically & it becomes someone else's very lucrative problem.
Good old days. I bought my Dual turntable at the Stereo Discounters show on Aylesbury Rd. They had a display set up with the turntable hanging upside down bouncing on springs paying a record.
i am not sure where the cutoff is for paypal to become suspicious of the transaction so i would suggest just to only pay less than $200. above a certain point paypal may decide to hold the money or block the transaction or what ever. i know as a new user until you get your bank account verified it is like $200 for the cutoff that you can charge to credit cards. another thing you could do is snipe sit refreshing the page and place the bid within the last few seconds of the auction. you could make a pioneer dealer turntable because the only differences is just it is in a plastic box with mirror and some feature labeling. there is a thing called bid shielding where the seller would have others who would bid to protect the bid amounts. i imagine there is a thing called offer shielding where there would be others offering to protect the offer amounts. it is all part of the thing called shilling. you may need to replace some of the parts in the kit because many of the capacitors may be dried out and could fail.
I was a store manager of Music & Sound in Va Beach in the 70's. We sold the SA 1000 and I had one until I moved overseas in 1983. Shame I didn't keep it.
@tihzho I was born and currently live in VB. I was wondering where this store was located and what brands u carried. Also how long did this store last?
@@allenwilliams8962 There were three Music & Sound stores The one I worked at was on the corner of Va Beach Blvd and Independence - used to be a gas station. Another store was in a shopping center on Laskin rd. behind Bojangles The main store was in Norfolk, I can't remember the address. Music & Sound sold band equipment and high end audio. Before I was at RadioShack at Pembroke mall
Sold audio (among other places) at Sam Goodys in Livingston Mall (1979/80) where I drooled over three lines/pieces; that Technics Receiver (those traveling LED power meters were so cool), the Aiwa 6900 Cassette (when that came out I bought a 6800 from the rep for less than cost) and the AR 9's
For the money that guy's asking, I'd literally get myself on the first plane to Japan, bring back a bunch of the cool stuff we never got over here, and enjoy a nice vacation while I'm at it.
@PulledPorkGarageEbay always have inflated prices anyway and paying that much for a receiver and à technics one of all brands is a bit absurd I agree with you. It's maybe for the shock value on UA-cam. Or maybe it's for collection. But rare don't always mean "good" 15k for a receiver is insane. But 15k for à technics receiver is something I can't comprehend. I'm as baffled as you are.
That's nothing, there's a Nak 1000ZXL limited listed right now for $35k. I restore old tape decks, and I just laugh at obscene prices like that. Granted Nak has never been my brand anyway, but there's no tape deck on earth I'm paying that kind of money for. That being said, if someone wants them that bad, who am I to argue? I'm just glad I got my childhood dream deck (Teac V-900X) for dirt cheap by comparison.
Lo...Every time I watch your videos, my stomach feels like there's something flipping inside. I've purged a lot of equipment on Craig's from 2015-18. I live in the DMV and sooner or later, plan to check out your store. I'm a collector and will be in contact soon, to see if you are interested in taking some things off my hand's. Shutting down one of two units I've had for 9 years. Tag at that time on Craig's was Vintage/Clearance/. Keep up the great work.
Ive heard the SX-1980 is more powerful despite the lower rating. The Pioneer is insanely conservative in its output power rating. Ive never tested it myself, but just about every thread i ever read said this was the case.
Sx1980 , I'll try again . What do all those buttons do ? I've pushed flipped and twisted all those buttons on my vintages equipment with most not making a diff.
@@LennyFlorentine As you know when you buy a used equipment they usually don't come with a manual or box even so your the expert I'm asking you to do a video on the subject please don't be an A$$
As a electronics engineer / tech with over 50 years repairing stereo equipment I would take Pioneer SX over Marantz 22-- any day. I just got done restoring an SX 950. It is burning in on it's 10 day test as I write this. The thing I refuse to do is install LED lights. I hate them.
Wow and glad so many ppl. are collecting vintage audio now and some opening vintage stores. I got the bug around 99 and so much was out there in thrift store, antique stores and flea markets, that reminds me and last time went to the flea market about 2 years ago, there was a monster Pioneer from like the early 70’s or late 60’s going for cheap but didn’t pick up. As much as I love the fact more ppl. are getting into it, things are going to dry up and make them go up in price. Imagine about 50 to 70% of these units got tossed or ended up in thrift store for the last 50 years and the ones for sale are the survivors. There should still be plenty out and about bc this interest only come back to a small group of the population , but soon it’ll be like buying vintage cars. So grab the ho end model receiver before they get super expensive.
Wow and cool store you got there! When are they going to have a cable show on just vintage hi fi like they had with shows like storage wars or pawn stars? Love you’re going for vintage hi fi sign.
Yeah and buying from eBay can get addictive and when you receive and open is a great rush. I remember when I wax buying cool stuff in the mid 90’s, my gf at the time couldn’t understand why I was looking for new things all the time and buying all the time. She even told her mom and her mom said he’s a male shopaholic . Lol! Now seeing guys like you with your constant shopping for vintage audio, this was 28 years ahead. Wow, you were not even born or still very young 28 years ago.
My dad was a veteran and he had most of those receivers collecting dust so I started using it n didn't know what I had n now I feel like I should take it back out because it's a check waiting to happen 😂...R.I.HEAVEN Dad...
Greed will get you every time. 🙄 I cringe when I think of all the audio gear I lost, gave away, or sent to be recycled because there was no internet, and I just didn't know any better. Who knew! I certainly didn't.
Probably toxic, but someone should can and sell the smell these old receivers made when new and warm. I can still remember it emanating from a big new Pioneer my father brought home in the late 70's. The sweet bouquet filled the living room.
Hot take, I don’t think any of your intentions are malicious but collectors like this artificially increase scarcity and these pieces will sit in your collection for 40+ years and barely be listened to. Music is meant to be enjoyed, not hoarded. Fix, sell and move them on so someone can enjoy them daily while still preserving these pieces
Hi Jason, you may not have the most powerful receiver ever. I consider the most powerful receiver as the Sansui G33000. I may have seen the boxes in your store in a previous video. This is a two piece unit consisting of the receiver and a 300wpc separate power amp 5 inch tall, 20 inch wide 20 inch deep unit below it. This is a rare piece as it was incredibly expensive unit to purchase. If you have this unit today, $50,000 would not be unfair to ask. There was also a similar unit with 200wpc, the G22000. Most people would say the Pioneer SX1980 is a good unit. I was at a hifi repair shop that was fully recapping this unit for a customer. I was not impressed by the output section. It has 4 output transistors per channel for a 270 watt output. These are unique proprietary devices used and designed by Pioneer in their products only. This is a lot of power for four output devices to reasonably handle. Some amplifiers have up to 16 devices per channel for a 200 watt output. This piece is a nice conversation starter. There are ebay adds that owners are looking to get up to $15000 for these units not recapped. Not a good idea for a 45 year old piece of equipment. Thanks again.
You keep saying the techniques is the largest receiver don’t forget the Samsun G 3300 is a whopping 300 watts rated very conservative as well as a 2 price unit we all know how good the 9000 is have one along with 1050 pioneer and 4300 Marantz but the Samsun is just beyond these when hooked up to commercial junk pa speakers rated up to 2000 watts I can only imagine the 3300 this is not taking anything away from techniques I just think with Samsun rep it’s got to be right there
As to the last statement in the video; I know the original box jacks up the value, but boxes are entirely overrated. Good sounding audio gear, however, is nearly priceless.
There are makers of new Dynaco kits out there for way less and with better sounding driver circuits, and oh, they don't need the now extremely extinct 7199 tube.
Nostalgia .. heres my take .. its often soft sounding and lacking detail. Better buy a modern amp that sounds better and less hassle .. been there done it , but that was years ago when I got them old vintage stuff cheap.
The sad thing about these collections is that once the collector dies, there likely won’t be any survivors that will care about the equipment and rush to sell it for whatever they can quickly get. That is good news for the people that get good deals, but for those beneficiaries of the collector, they don’t get as much benefit as if they were just left the money. I think there is a point where the audiophile addiction becomes economically damaging. But, it’s people’s money . . . .
absolutely strange I'm from Canada I see these constantly on Canadian eBay and on marketplaces here in Canada the cheapest one I found was $80 of course it had a bit of problems the most expensive one I found was around $900 American so roughly $1,200 Canadian has the antenna and has the speaker protector that you are talking about and is in much better condition than the one you found however it does not come with a box for that price I can have 20 boxes printed out by a company that makes boxes I don't understand you Americans buying stuff at those prices you can buy half of that stuff in Canada so cheap that this would be your favorite shopping place for stereo equipment
Sorry for that , I do subscribe to multiple sites. I really felt that was a bit to far though. Yes Kenwood was more “affordable “ but I had heard they really made the best tuners. Was that you?
I have both and the Pioneer is much better build and the sound is more musical. My sa 1000 was purchased for $7000 and is like new and complete and would never spend $8,000 for the box

another thing you could do is snipe sit refreshing the page and place the bid within the last few seconds of the auction.
you could make a pioneer dealer turntable because the only differences is just it is in a plastic box with mirror and some feature labeling.
there is a thing called bid shielding where the seller would have others who would bid to protect the bid amounts.
i imagine there is a thing called offer shielding where there would be others offering to protect the offer amounts.
it is all part of the thing called shilling.
you may need to replace some of the parts in the kit because many of the capacitors may be dried out and could fail.
I have Harman Kardon Citation "the Receiver", it is priceless in my eyes
Oh yeah, the original Festival
Thats a sweet piece, one of these days I'll start restoring mine. Thanks for sharing!
@@LennyFlorentine yes ! I would really like a video on this device, it is incredible but I see very few things on the web
I was a store manager of Music & Sound in Va Beach in the 70's. We sold the SA 1000 and I had one until I moved overseas in 1983. Shame I didn't keep it.
Dang!
@tihzho I was born and currently live in VB. I was wondering where this store was located and what brands u carried. Also how long did this store last?
@@allenwilliams8962 There were three Music & Sound stores
The one I worked at was on the corner of Va Beach Blvd and Independence - used to be a gas station.
Another store was in a shopping center on Laskin rd. behind Bojangles
The main store was in Norfolk, I can't remember the address.
Music & Sound sold band equipment and high end audio.
Before I was at RadioShack at Pembroke mall
@@allenwilliams8962 This was in the 70's and I left the US in 83
Sold audio (among other places) at Sam Goodys in Livingston Mall (1979/80) where I drooled over three lines/pieces; that Technics Receiver (those traveling LED power meters were so cool), the Aiwa 6900 Cassette (when that came out I bought a 6800 from the rep for less than cost) and the AR 9's
I'm pretty sure my dad had one of those and gave it away. Not just the receiver though he had the whole sound system speakers receiver and turn table.
Definitely gonna be a fun one
Quick question. My parents have a yorx m2678, can you advise on what kind of replacement record needle I need and how to replace it??
The Pioneer is a way better build, but does have it's flaws as well
@@LennyFlorentine im still out for the Marantz 4400, 2330, and someday a 2600… after that im done (so i say now)
I have a pristine SA-800. Original owner. Its truly a monster
All of these receivers are the best .
Great video. I love my ST-70!
You guys really should have gave a shout out to Matt for using his SD-1000 lol
Thanks to Matt!
Sx1980 , I'll try again . What do all those buttons do ? I've pushed flipped and twisted all those buttons on my vintages equipment with most not making a diff.
Depends on the buttons, check the manual for details
@@LennyFlorentine As you know when you buy a used equipment they usually don't come with a manual or box even so your the expert I'm asking you to do a video on the subject please don't be an A$$
Hey. Just wanted to let you know that Vintage Audio Exchange has a Technics Receiver - Model SA-1000A. Price $8,500.00.
Great as always
Thanks again!
I hate them too.
Man, I wish I could visit your store. There's certainly nothing like it in all of DFW sadly.
Be sure to come visit us at the Southwest Audio Fest in 2024!
Isn't the SA-1000 just a tie with the Sansui Gx-33000?
Super duper nice 👍👍

Wow and you collect the original boxes also. I swear this is getting like when ppl. started collecting vintage toys like 25 years ago.
Growing up, I wanted a Pioneer SX-1250 and JBL Century L100s.
Pioneer quadro 8000, good resiver?
Where did you buy that rack? Link please?
It's original
@@LennyFlorentine start making them;)
8-15 grand for a vintage receiver is insane given their performence and functionality, no idea if the capacitors even work properly either.
You have a Marantz 2010?
I got a sansui g8000 for free with a pair on Bose 601s (series 1), any idea what kind of value I’m looking at?
Restored a G-8000 is over 5k
Here's hoping you score that Tech receiver
My dad was a veteran and he had most of those receivers collecting dust so I started using it n didn't know what I had n now I feel like I should take it back out because it's a check waiting to happen 😂...R.I.HEAVEN Dad...
Greed will get you every time. 🙄 I cringe when I think of all the audio gear I lost, gave away, or sent to be recycled because there was no internet, and I just didn't know any better. Who knew! I certainly didn't.
Things always go up in value, I cringe at things I sold in the past and what they go for now, that's life haha
Thanks ❤
I have every monster receiving made every manufacturer except the Sansui G3300 but do have the G22000 and the my best is the Pioneer Sx1250 and Sx1980
Jealous! You will love our next video on that note
I have a couple of old receivers I could send if you want to try to repair them for a video.
Fred Locke stereo New Haven CT 1200.00 bought 200 then the 500 then the sa 700 didn't make it to the sa-1000 almost lol
Love to have nice jvc A-X9 amp if you come across one.
Just picked up a Harmin Kardon 90+ reciever.
Sweet!
That unicorn It's hard to capture I was wondering about the shops over in Japan I bet you that unicorn techniques 1000 is plentiful over there 🤔
Probably toxic, but someone should can and sell the smell these old receivers made when new and warm. I can still remember it emanating from a big new Pioneer my father brought home in the late 70's. The sweet bouquet filled the living room.
such overhype ! 🤩
With outrageous prices
Forgot the 2600 marantz!!
Best video 👍
Try to build your own speakers with vintage components
Thanks again.
iam search for a technics rs tr979 tape deck
I love vintage stereo systems but these astronomical prices are not worth it unless you have that kind of disposable bucks.
You realize that you could have gotten a much better scope like a Tektronix for way less that does more, including 4 channel ones.
You keep saying the techniques is the largest receiver don’t forget the Samsun G 3300 is a whopping 300 watts rated very conservative as well as a 2 price unit we all know how good the 9000 is have one along with 1050 pioneer and 4300 Marantz but the Samsun is just beyond these when hooked up to commercial junk pa speakers rated up to 2000 watts I can only imagine the 3300 this is not taking anything away from techniques I just think with Samsun rep it’s got to be right there
Where the hell you get all the money to do this??
But, it’s people’s money . . . .
Currently one posted on eBay for 8K obo, restored.
That's the one in the video with broken parts
The free interprize system it's great!!!!!!!!))))))))))
Cool
Prices for vintage gear is getting out of hand. I mean seriously, a pioneer oscilloscope sells for $7k?? Are people out of their minds?
absolutely strange I'm from Canada I see these constantly on Canadian eBay and on marketplaces here in Canada the cheapest one I found was $80 of course it had a bit of problems the most expensive one I found was around $900 American so roughly $1,200 Canadian has the antenna and has the speaker protector that you are talking about and is in much better condition than the one you found however it does not come with a box for that price I can have 20 boxes printed out by a company that makes boxes I don't understand you Americans buying stuff at those prices you can buy half of that stuff in Canada so cheap that this would be your favorite shopping place for stereo equipment
Remember I believe you said Technics and Kenwood are empty boxes!
That wasn't me
Sorry for that , I do subscribe to multiple sites.
I really felt that was a bit to far though.
Yes Kenwood was more “affordable “ but I had heard they really made the best tuners. Was that you?
$15,000 for a Technics receiver? Yikes!
Technics.
There’s no such audio brand as Techniques.
Dude’s stereos cost more than my cars … when they were new! 🤣🤣
I thought the SA-1000 was only a prototype. Huh interesting.
I paid $100.00 Cdn for my 5770.The shop recapped it B4 I bought it 15 yrs ago. 😂😅🎉
Hmm, just because an ebay seller says they have an offer of $10k, doesn't mean it's true.
I repaired audio for many years and most vintage receivers are junk.
Kenwood KR-9050
I have both and the Pioneer is much better build and the sound is more musical. My sa 1000 was purchased for $7000 and is like new and complete and would never spend $8,000 for the box
There are way too ,many GREEDY sellers on ebay. It's all over folks.
Ebay does take 20% so keep that in mind. I price everything higher on there to encourage people to shop direct
I actually do like the SD-1000 better lmfao
Yeah I'm happy with it for sure
Those Technic receivers are riddled with build issues. The Pioneers are WAY better built.
