Some famous cellist dude was asked, “So how long does it take to prepare a piece?” And I think his response was, “ if the concert in in 7 months, well it takes 7 months. If the concert is in 7 days, well... it takes 7 days.”
i feel sorry. her sight reading skills are average for a professional flutist. don't get impressed by something you don't know the difficulty involved to master it, that's how you give recognition to people that don't deserve it. (before any hate comes from anyone, she asked to say what did we think of this video. this was my opinion then)
@@jaune4720 Oh please - there is a massive world of difference between a professional musician in an ensemble setting cold reading a piece the day they have to play it versus knowing they have a week to work on a soloist part. Her sight reading skills aren't problematic - she's just being very methodical and cautious to avoid future issues.
@@MartyMusic777 and I agree with her method and what you say, it's exactly with patience and slowness that you need to incorporate difficulties of a piece :) I was just replying to the original comment, which I think is an exageration, because i've seen MANY great flautists sight reading and incorporating difficulties at a much quicker pace than her. and them, do really deserve a "beyond impressive" mention. but not this girl (that I really don't like, sorry for getting mad about her xD)
So many people I know don't unterstand why it's so important to practice scales. It helps to make other parts so much easier because fingers are warm and smooth. I'll take at least 30 minutes for scales an arpeggios to be prepared foe the nexxt big concert I practice.
You did a great job on showing how technique exercises are just as important as repertoire, sometimes more! Recently my private teacher has been giving lots of similar exercises to help my fingers. lol
Let's just take a moment to really appreciate all she does. She learned this in 7 days and played it beautifully plus she shared all helpful of her methods with us! Then she had to take all the time to edit it. She is really amazing!
I am a violinist and I agree with you 100%… There are less things we have in common than what we human beings don’t, like the defect of being a perfectionist, and of not ever ever being satisfied...
your fortes and pianos are so... forte and piano! i’ve always had difficulty getting really loud and really soft. do you have any tips? also, love your playing personality! blends with the music so well :’))

I am in high school right now and just watching you practice makes me want to practice my all region music so bad c: I am a trumpet so it is a little different in the pieces you play, but all in all its the same thing, practice.

Yes l enjoyed this so much and some good pointers on how to practice which l shall take on board. Trills using the metronome to get up to speed, marking the difficult passages in pencil then concentrating on them.

Lol, my brother plays piano and I play the flute, I swear any piano is nice other than his own piano. Kudos to Santi, I find it common that pianist come to rehearsal with no pencil markings on their sheet music ie. my brother!
It's never perfect, that's the wonder of practise. You can never be perfect. But you can have the luxury of time spent on something showstopping like the Mercadante. It's always good to have something to work on. Brava, btw. You really played it well.

So helpful for me. I’m playing a few really difficult pieces preparing for a concert. I’m in a local community band so not professional We only got 5 weeks for 6 pieces. Task seems impossible but I take your point about preparing through scales studies and technique as Major part of preparation. I was never sure if I should just focus solely on the pieces and forget the rest. There’s never enough time and the pieces are way above my ability. What would others focus on. Anyway your playing is spectacular absolutely wonderful in every way possible im so in awe of you and you’re so young. I’m 67 and struggling after 4 year’s learning the flute ❤ hoping it’ll get easiet
I’m not too familiar with this one.. I’ve heard the Mercadante e minor concerto a lot and I learned the entire Three Serenades for three flutes my junior year of undergrad. Speaking of pretty easy concertos, I learned the Quantz G Major Concerto last November when I played for Lorna McGhee ( I only played the first movement though) You have a pretty sound!😊❤️👏👏👏👏

I love your practice vlogs, and I’m curious, where do you go to get rehearsal and recording space with your pianist? Do you have to pay to rent a space? I’d also love to watch a video about how you deal with neighbors as a professional musician...flute especially! I know everything is tightly packed in NYC. Do you warn your new neighbors of your career or just go for it?
Yes section by section. Doing it this way it becomes cognitive. It becomes so you get much h confidence so you are not constantly thinking about it when playing. Great use of the metronome too.😅😅😅
I'm a former flute player myself and yes breathing exercises do help also I play piano and picking up trumpet but good luck on your progress (should I start a music channel?🤔)

2 years of solid practise will do it. The denser the metal, the better the sound, but more work to get a great sound on a fabulous instrument like this.
@@katieflute Yea my section, except for me, my friend, and the section leader, all don't practice and like are just not really good at all, so when we have sectionals, and we run a song, it starts with everyone, and halfway through, it's just me and my section leader sksk. Edit: And omg a baritone player, was like omg how can flute players play that HIGH?!?!?!?! And I'm like, because you play a baritone, and they PLAY A FLUTE.
I think that whenever there's a difficult part and you've practiced it for a while and still can't get it right, you should go back and practice other parts where you have issues so that you don't drive yourself crazy with the same notes again and again and with accumulated frustration. Just my opinion as a non-musician, but practice it's somewhat of a universal thing, no matter what you're practicing, isn't it? Also, the rehearsal was so funny😂😂

The trill from E to F Sharp is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. I was playing a piece at a recital and there was a trill. Of course I messed up and I like died on the stage.

How do you play the flute so well? I play piano at grade 6, I'm a begginer at violin, but flute... I have to breath every note.

I’m a high schooler and I can’t double tongue... I haven’t even attempted it💀💀💀
the hardest part about double tonguing is getting it in rhythm. it doesn’t take that long to learn how to actually do it
Double tonguing is easy on flute compared to a reed instrument. They require so much more force behind the d-K-d-K to initiate the sound.
LOL... nice camera work. Memorization works the best for me aurally. Then again I understand most learn visually.

I’m a second year player and my high E sounds awful I was wondering if it takes time to get it to sound good
It does. High e is a hard note to hit and sometimes it can sound a little out of tune or airy.

sometimes alternate fingerings are amazing! certain notes don’t sound very good on flute and it takes lots of practice to fix that.

No, it's not recommended in case of injury. Practise is all you need, about 5 hours a day.

I think that whenever there's a difficult part and you've practiced it for a while and still can't get it right, you should go back and practice other parts where you have issues so that you don't drive yourself crazy with the same notes again and again and with accumulated frustration. Just my opinion as a non-musician, but practice it's somewhat of a universal thing, no matter what you're practicing, isn't it?
Also, the rehearsal was so funny😂😂

The trill from E to F Sharp is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me. I was playing a piece at a recital and there was a trill. Of course I messed up and I like died on the stage.
