I got my EGA in May. It was just like this and every person in the company had the sniffles that day...(darn allergies) lol. But seriously it is one of the most proud moments of my life to be part of such a brotherhood. Never forget why you joined, and constantly strive to be that marine the American people expects you to be. Semper Fidelis
I remember my Eagle, Globe, and Anchor ceremony like it was yesterday. Tears of joy, accomplishment, and pride ran down my face as I held that emblem in my hand for the first time. Only difference was that I was on top of the green reaper (west coast boot camp, 10/19/2000).
Was separated from the air force a month ago for bipolar disorder Did 3 years Watching this makes me want to be a marine so bad. Sucks I know I will never be able to Much support Always loyal
The pride and the smiles that come over each of them after they receive their EGA. So moving to see these tough bastards fill, quietly, with joy. :) Thank you for your service and commitment to defend our Nation.
I was standing where they were standing about 4 months ago but I wasn't there for the same reason I wasnt the one recieving an ega it was my brother...but I can't wait to get mine in a few years...i love parris island you can just feel the history walking on those streets
April 2nd 2004 MCRD, HELL MY OLE MAN EVEN CRIED, MY KILL HAT SSGT WOODS GAVE MINE TO ME, HE USED TO BEAT MY FUCKIN ASS,COULDN'T HOLD BACK NOTHIN GETTING IT FROM HIM.
Just out of curiosity, when did they start doing these EGA ceremonies? When I graduated in Jul '85, we just had the regular grad ceremony and that was it. Nothing was handed out except our next orders.
In 1996 General Krulak introduced the crucible. The crucible is 54 hours long and simulates combat stress. Recruits are allowed limited food and sleep while engaging in multiple obstacle courses. Successful completion is the capstone to officially transition to Marine. The EGA ceremony occurs while recruits remain in combat utilities from the event after which the newly designated Marines are sent for showers and food. Drill instructors change behavior immediately upon conferring the EGA.
When was this recorded? The First Sergeant at the beginning looks like my Co 1stSgt when I was Bravo/plt 1104 Sept - Dec 2006 and my Battalion Sgt Maj on my deployment with 2/9. I also recognized someone who looks like my kill hat at 20 seconds in. This wasn't my EGA ceremony though, mine was done on the parade deck if I remember correctly.
November 10, 1775, Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, the first man signs his contract to enlist in the Continental Marines and steps outside. The second man does the same. The first walks over and says, "So, let me tell you about the old Corps."
I remember this. It was the most amazing feeling ever!
Proudest moment of my life that can never be taken from me.

It was a lot more emotional getting my EGA on top of the reaper with a view of Camp Pendleton as the sun was rising. Semper Fi

I am also curious. Nov 23, 1983 from San Diego. None of this happened.

The recruits just returned from The Crucible. The Marine Corps websites explain the event in sufficient detail.
