Robertson was unbelievable for Scotland in the June internationals. He’s been insanely consistent for years. He’s still one of the best left backs itw, but I feel he’s suffered at Liverpool since Wijnaldum, then Mane, left. That left side was unreal, and symbiotic. As good as the players coming in have been, there have been so many disruptions around him. Insanely top tier, consistent, record breaking assists defender, but everyone needs consistency around them.

If Liverpool sign Pavard and move Trent in the right 8 position, this would mean that Robertson is free to roam the left side and join every attack, while still maintaining the 3 CBs in Van Djik, Konaté and Pavard.

As a Gladbach supporter I would miss Kone a lot. The stats in itself don't do him justice. Szoboszlai sounds great. LFC need players who can shoot from range and he is one of the best in that. Also he knows the pressing systems, having played for the RB clubs. Colwill is out of reach, I think …
Assuming Kelleher stays he would also be counted as a homegrown player since he's come through the academy, so that makes the homegrown vs foreign problem a bit easier!

I think long-term it's better to get Trent into the 8 role as opposed to having him as a pivot in the Pep style since when Stones does it he can move back into that CB role when a defender is forced wide but in this system Trent can't do that so Konate is forced to play CB and RB which isn't sustainable and just leaves too much space that good teams will take advantage of. Plus Trent in the 8 in the more traditional role will let Robbo be free again instead of having to stay back in that back 3
I would like to see Liverpool play a variation of the 4231 as I think it fits their strengths and covers their weaknesses. Nunez provides the main aerial threat whilst Salah, MacAllister and Diaz look to find pockets of space. If there is a turnover, Fabinho would be able to engage aggressively knowing that there are still three defenders behind him. Someone like Manu Kone, maybe Thuram or Bajcetic could fill this role. The nearest CB could engage the attacker to win the ball back or delay them whilst the other two drop off to follow runners, block passing lanes and allow some of the attackers to drop back. It makes marking TAA very difficult as he can stay deep where the opposition may man-mark him with a 10 or an 8 but they would then have to follow him out wide which frees up space for Salah and MacAllister. I also think that where I have Pavard here is the best position for Gomez. Physically and technically (when fit), Gomez is excellent but his positioning can be iffy and he does sometimes switch off. Having two other solid defenders next to him would help to mask these weaknesses.

Very good video JJ and Tifo. I think you largely nailed our needs, and appreciate the depth you go into. If we can get Szob, Thuram/None, Pavard and Colwill in addition to Mac that'd be great, just think that's even outside FSG's budget so I think we'll only get one defender.
The thing about adding Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Thuram, or even Kone, is that all of them are more press resistant and technical than previous Liverpool midfield's were. Adding that level of technical quality, plus size and strength (Thuram, Szobo, Kone), will allow them to retain the ball and control tempo WAY more (which is what Klopp bought Thiago for, tempo control) which should reduce the gaps and distances between players because they won't be chasing as much, nor will they be relying on long diagonals for offense. The build up might be slow initially, but one all of them settle in everybody will benefit from more control, which conserves more energy, which makes heavy metal football viable again.
Agree, there's combinations of qualities they might bring which might boost Liverpool a lot and be an energetic, strong and dynamic system playing team that Klopp seems to do best working with?
But hipothetical line-ups only with technical players not that good at pressing wouldn't work. Mac Allister, Trent, Thiago are great at controlling the game, but wouldn't make a viable pressing midfield. It's one or the other. What this midfield seema to lack is an energetic pressing machine.
Hincapié just hurt his foot in the June friendlies playing with Ecuador. I think he may be back sometime in August but it might limit his ability to make a transfer this window. Also, it may take 45-50 mil at least to get Leverkusen to sell him.
Doesn't Kelleher count as homegrown too? He joined Liverpool in 2015, when he was 16, turning 17, so he's made the 3 years prior to 21. Based on current squad: Kelleher, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Henderson, Elliot, Jones, Carvalho, all qualify. While the lads under 21 don't have to be in the 25 man squad to play, they can be registered, and count towards the 8 man total. Additionally, I think Stefan Bajcetic counts his 3 years this season as well (again, U21 but can be used in the list if needed). With the loss of Ox and Milner, likely sale of Phillips, and loan of Carvalho, it would seem plausible we're more likely to bring in 2-3 senior home grown players for the quota. James Ward-Prowse would be a starting point. He offers a number of things, including leadership, energy, great distribution. And, with him and Trent, we'd have 2 of the best dead ball specialists in the game. Romeo Lavia also looks like he qualifies for home grown status next season, and would be a great understudy to Fabs. Plus, adding those two just keeps the jokes about us only buying from Soton going...
Great video. Looking forward to the ones of these for the promoted sides. It'd be a lot more interesting looking into what those sides (especially Sheffield United and Luton) need to do to compete and try to stay up than in looking at what 6 of the richest clubs in Europe can do to keep cancelling eachother out and still failing to beat city to the title
Yeah. It's almost easier going for top calibre players that fit a specific role needed, with the only issues being finding ones with short contracts or low release clauses. As a Bournemouth fan I've been a bit underwhelmed by Justin Kluivert's numbers but sides like that are hardly gonna get the Kingsley Coman's of this world.
@@jonarific8504 that's my point really. I do appreciate how much more work it must be to do the smaller sides, because the pool of "not at all world class but probably good enough for a bottom half prem side if they're used in the right way" is much larger, and it's harder to find players that will solve specific problems in those sides when not only is the pool of "unspectacular but good enough for this team" players so much bigger, but there's all the budgetary issues to consider to boot. It just seems like given how many FM fans are on the staff at Tifo, they would also enjoy trying to solve those problems, and so it feels a bit disappointing that they're only doing teams who would probably finish in a similar position to last season even without any signings (or in Chelsea's case basically guaranteed to be back in the top 6 even if they only off-loaded 10-15 and didn't replace any)
Arsenal have already done the hard part in going after Havertz, Rice & Timber. Once these are over the line I can’t see much more happening. Clear, good planning
@@fcpools2364 The big name/money moves? Yes! But I hope they find creative/sensible solutions to solve the biggest problem last year, which was our squad depth down the stretch at the end of the season, when ManCity went full gas and we kind of fell off a cliff.
I feel like you’re putting way too much blame on nunez, our system was not working when he wasn’t playing and firmino was starting in the first half of the season, no line up or change of players made us play like we used to, it just took confidence and a form change for us to get back I think
Pavard is bang average and it's the left side that is the main concern. Robertson is not a LCB in buildup and has been ran into the ground. Liverpool need a centre back/left back hybrid but started at left back. Hincapie is a good pick, Inacio, etc.
If they’re playing that box midfield now with “2 no.10’s” they don’t need gakpo to play the false 9 anymore so Nunez can play as an out and out striker
have not been watching a lot liverpool games but I don't think these are their sensible transfers : there is no team that can play without any player in the wings, especially attacking teams. it's too easy to defend against. For liverpool, Klopp needs definitely to bring back Salah more centrally in the right half space, because he needs his goal scoring abilities and creativity in the tight spaces. This means TAA have to take the right wing. Wich means if the team plays in 4-3-3 having a more defensive, good passer, not too slow right interior to cover TAA and distribute. That's why Handerson was so effective. Vitinha, Youssouf Fofana, De Paul, , may be Tielemans would be good options.
Immediately right away I’m going to pull you up on being “realistic” and then having Levi Colwill as someone Liverpool could sign. Chelsea have said numerous times they won’t be selling him under any circumstances. Unavailable players aren’t realistic targets.
The idea that Liverpool played most of the 21/22 season with Bobby F as a False-Nine is... well, false. From Jan 2022 onwards, when they went on that long, virtually unbeaten run that got them in contention for the Quadruple, Mane played mostly as an out-and-out Number Nine, with Diaz operating on the left.
massive Liverpool fan and a tifo fan for years but the summary of Liverpool’s tactics for the past season was miles off it. Not even a huge problem ik they’re busy but get the players and positions right. Sorry for being critical I love the channel just constructive
I think Livramento is a good option tbf. Cheaper than both Pavard and Colwill whilst also being very promising and would fill a homegrown spot. Yeah he’s had a big injury but before that he was on track to be a top fullback. Only downside is he doesn’t have any experience at CB.
for everyone sentimentally attaching onto robertson. we need to play a system where we have quality and the ability to create incisions from wide areas. i’d much rather have diaz receiving from isolated 1v1 situations that robertson. not saying robertson isn’t a great LV/LWB, but football is evolving. possession based systems need every single cent of superiority they can receive , and that includes dangerous wide threats. this comes with the form of high and wide wingers, as because a lot of teams sit in low blocks when pushed back, when you’re attacking them, you need to be able to create incisions into compact defenses. 8/10 times when the ball comes to robertson wide left against a low block, he’s turning back and recycling it vs diaz or a touch line lw looking to beat his man. therefore the lb needs to be a 3rd center back capable of phenomenal ball playing abilities as well as the control of tempo from the back against intense high presses. and that is not robertson at all
as a liverpool fan I'm not sure Curtis Jones is quite up for it and i REALLY hope i am wrong because he was great towards the end of this season. Need another attacking midfielder, a 6 (because fabinho plays like he's wearing work boots), a centerback (because i have no confidence in Gomez and Matip anymore), and a young right back (who is english because of the home grown rule) to challenge trent and push him. Ramsey was supposed to do that but i'm not sure he even exists.
Hendersons legs have completely gone it was painful to watch him last season so i think he will become the new milner who comes on for 20 mins to see games out
They need to offload one of their midfielders then. They'll have Thiago, Hendo, Fabinho, Bascetic, Macalister, potentially Thuram or Szoboszlai or Kone, Jones, Eliott. That's 8 or 9 midfielders for three position. I know people say you need two players for position, that's nice in theory but doesn't work in reality.
Please have a look at the amount of times VVD actually passes forward, he almost always leaves it up to the right centre back to do this. It works when Matip is playing but not as well with the other options. If he was encouraged to play forward more often or even replaced with a player that did it would help LFC not be quite as one dimensional. I have loved what VVD has done but he showed worrying signs of decline post injury. I have wondered if it was due to the reduced coverage in midfield which you covered. Thank you for the excellent analysis.
trent going into midfield, will push robbo back and means robertsons attacking play basically stops, as he has to tuck in to create a back 3. they should just keep trent at rb and robbo at lb. not every team needs inverted fullbacks
Pavard, hincappe job done trent goes into midfield. He and macallister are the two new mids. Trent, macallister, Jones, Henderson, Thiago, Elliot, Fabinho and bajcetic should surely be sufficient for 3 midfield spots and if not then go and grab another in January

It just seems like given how many FM fans are on the staff at Tifo, they would also enjoy trying to solve those problems, and so it feels a bit disappointing that they're only doing teams who would probably finish in a similar position to last season even without any signings (or in Chelsea's case basically guaranteed to be back in the top 6 even if they only off-loaded 10-15 and didn't replace any)
Last thing we need is "Thuram learning from Henderson."
😂😂
As soon as you started talking about homegrown players for the LCB position, I knew you'd say Levi Colwill. Chelsea cannot let that man go.
“Liverpool have a relatively small budget”
Also Liverpool: spend €70m on Szoboszlai 😅
60 M
@@tamzidhossain2972you understand the difference between euros and Pounds?
Klopp knows who to sign and how to turn this team around but it all comes down to FSG! They just don't back Klopp enough.
Romeo Lavia makes so much sense to me to add depth to the midfield.
You’re not having him
@@devidwobinson8747
1. Not a liverpool fan
2. Not up to you to decide that
We don't need project players when firstly we need starters and secondly he's too expensive for what he offers
they need someone experienced so Lavia and someone like Kessie would be sensible
Also he counts as a hg player in future. Good investment
Can't wait for Arsenal's video! It's such a crucial transfer window for us, to get to the next level!
Szobozslai is about to sign for Liverpool, you guys got the nail on the head.
You forgot Kelleher who is also home grown. Conor Bradley, Van den berg, Nat are also homegrown.
Thank God you did Liverpool JJ rather than Jon. You suggested good and sensible transfers that would work for my club.
Love that Fiorentina kit!
Now I'm convinced Tifo and Liverpool's scouting department compare notes 😅
Just shows how great our recruitment is that we’re linked with these players
from this sensible transfer vids, we know that liverpool analyst and scout are really working right now
I would love it if u guys did an episode on Sevilla coz they have had a strange season and need stability
Dominic Szoboszlai is an absolute baller. If Liverpool get him. That would be the signing of the season
It is
Glad Liverpool triggered the release clause for Szoboszlai
This was amazingly well put together and explained - superb
I feel like you’re putting way too much blame on nunez, our system was not working when he wasn’t playing and firmino was starting in the first half of the season, no line up or change of players made us play like we used to, it just took confidence and a form change for us to get back I think
JJ must be BUZZING that they got this up before this evening!
Pavard is bang average and it's the left side that is the main concern. Robertson is not a LCB in buildup and has been ran into the ground. Liverpool need a centre back/left back hybrid but started at left back. Hincapie is a good pick, Inacio, etc.
Excited to see the new look Liverpool, MacAllister and Szobozslai are quality players. I still think cover for Fabinho is needed though
Rather spookily, that Pavard goal was 5 years ago today.
Our choice, Ibrahim Sangare
Dominik Szoboszlai is not left footed 😹. He is actually right footed
I love these type of videos. Handy for fifa career mode too 😂
Domnik Szoboszlai is going to be a great signing for Liverpool even though we did overpay a bit
That kit is an all-time classic
If they’re playing that box midfield now with “2 no.10’s” they don’t need gakpo to play the false 9 anymore so Nunez can play as an out and out striker
have not been watching a lot liverpool games but I don't think these are their sensible transfers :
there is no team that can play without any player in the wings, especially attacking teams. it's too easy to defend against.
Great vid mate
Kelleher is also an HG player, a total of 5 instead of 4.
Also, Liverpool were rubbish during the 20/21 season; they won the PL the season before...
Every mention of Thiago ends on he's always injured, which is a very sad reality.
massive Liverpool fan and a tifo fan for years but the summary of Liverpool’s tactics for the past season was miles off it.
8/10 times when the ball comes to robertson wide left against a low block, he’s turning back and recycling it vs diaz or a touch line lw looking to beat his man. therefore the lb needs to be a 3rd center back capable of phenomenal ball playing abilities as well as the control of tempo from the back against intense high presses. and that is not robertson at all
I wish we went in for N’Dicka. He is so underrated and would’ve been good as Van Dijk back up and slowly become the starter.
as a liverpool fan I'm not sure Curtis Jones is quite up for it and i REALLY hope i am wrong because he was great towards the end of this season.
Hendersons legs have completely gone it was painful to watch him last season so i think he will become the new milner who comes on for 20 mins to see games out
Liverpool scouts clearly watching what youve said about Szoboszlai 😄
Klopp should try 4-2-1-3, buy a new right back, play TAA as a deep playmaker. I mean it's worth a shot.
If only we were getting two players who wore that kit - Rui Costa and Batigol
Mate loved the detailed breakdown, but as LCB perhaps you may think of Morato from Benfica for around 30Mill Fulham is already after him.
3-4-3
Timber/Inacio at the back
Done
Yes. They will have more freedom playing with a young pressing midfield.
And just like that Liverpool trigger Szoboz release clause 😂I swear klopp is subscribed to you guys 😂😂
Szoboszlai looks like the enxt tranfer target to fall as LFC are about to trigger that release clause.
WE’VE GOT SZOBOSZLAI
15:15 love the math session 😂
Sensible Transfers for the cheapest team in England........."Levi Colwill" 😂
Pavard, hincappe job done trent goes into midfield. He and macallister are the two new mids. Trent, macallister, Jones, Henderson, Thiago, Elliot, Fabinho and bajcetic should surely be sufficient for 3 midfield spots and if not then go and grab another in January
Fabrízio just confirmed Dominik Szoboszlai Liverpool new player.
Absolutely perfect video JJ
The drawing explanation was better
I get that its all about stats but all of these players have already been linked with liverpool, it would be nice to hear something a bit out of left field to get us thinking. Unless you're saying that Liverpool have got all of heir transfer targets exactly spot on.
Thats what I thought
Very detailed analysis of Liverpool and their squad. This video is so good that Klopp is probably taking notes watching it.
Nice advice👍
