- Ships are required to exhibit certain navigation lights from sunset through sunrise. These important lights all have unique characteristics to let other vessels know what type of vessel you are and which direction you are facing. This information is very important for knowing how vessels should behave between each other in traffic situations or to let other vessels know your vessel is currently experiencing limitations in its ability to maneuver. This video takes a look at the navigation lights on a cargo ship as well as the control panel to operate them from the Bridge.

The advent of LED lights must have reduced maintenance hours related to running lights as well as all lights on a MV.
I have never seen a video with this information, Bryan! Your content is always a cut above the rest. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. It did cut off quite suddenly, were you done?
Captain walked in and asked who the hell has been turning the lights on and off.
Oh right! 😊 Your a great seaferer atalltyms God bless keepsafe. TAkecare! . 😊 :) 😇☺️
I was wondering the same thing 🧐
As always you provide a lot of content that most would never think of, very informative. Thanks Bryan stay safe out there! I always look forward to your next.
Hey Bryan, Antwerp local here. Nice to see your vids, giving me a good insight in life aboard. As Antwerp native I feel strongly connected with anything to do with sea life. Keep uploading please :)
thanks for posting these videos!!! My father was an officer/ Mate on these container ships and Supper Tankers when I was a kid.
As people like to say about me, "lights on, but, nobody's home. " 🤣
That would be N.U.C., Not Under Command.
Illuminating video
Interesting as always Bryan! I'm now surely bringing binoculars next time I get the overnight ferry across the North Sea!
Cool...
Very neat. Are you on the same ship all the time? “Rules of the Road” definitely a harder part of the Captains test.
Thanks for the video. How do you do in pirate waters?
Have you talked about how to tell ship orientation at night by the underway lights or did you cover it in a video I haven't caught yet?
I think remember him talking about that in a recent video! Like in the last 2-3 weeks at most, I'd say. I'll see if I can find it.
Oops, I looked through my watch history and it was on a different channel, this is the video that I watched ua-cam.com/video/ScHNieC5ymU/v-deo.html
