- Going to perform a minor service on the engine in the boat , a Yanmar 3GM30F, circa 2001 'E' model
Will show the tools I use and the unusual way to remove the oil from a BOAT engine!
Good video, the other modification you might have is the electric Facet Fuel Pump. not sure if yours was originally mechanical. Nice set up!
Also, you either have leakage of antifreeze around cap and down front of engine (dried pink antifreeze) or you never cleaned it up from the change out last year.
Yes there are a few modifications to the motor. Notably the Balmar alternator and balmar AltMount pulley kit. Aftermarket PYI engine mounts, PYI shaft seal, The engine has a stock factory mechanical lift pump. the previous owner installed the electric Facet pump. the previous owner also installed new sending units for the temp and oil pressure to show the level, instead of just an idiot light. There are VDO gauges in the cockpit. I strongly recommend the electric pump. It adds a filter, helps bleed the system, and offers reliability if the engine sucks air. So huge safety feature. The electric pumps are highly debated. I like it!
Yes there is several places there is dried antifreeze from previous services, changing the fresh water pump, changed the hoses out, thermostat, etc. I should clean it. Plus taking the cap off to check the antifreeze level EVERY time I start the motor, along with checking the oil level, at EVERY start up (if I remember, that is!)
Maybe I will make a video on the modifications to the motor at some point.
Still runs great for a 2001 model year motor!
Nice service. How about the air filter?
The air filter is foam on a screen. I previously checked it. The video was getting too long, so didn't show that or check the diesel filters.
@@ohlson38 Good deal. I have the same engine and haven't checked mine yet (just bought in January). Thanks for posting.
@Zak not an expert..but have serviced this engine for 15 years..let me know if you have any questions
@@ohlson38 Thanks! I will reach out if I have questions when I service it.
