    Great presentation! Have done numerous drive upgrades and came across this when looking for freeware programs to migrate same machine. Already GPT so tried this method and was happy with the amount of time to perform! Also liked the ability to migrate to smaller drive with enough space to contain partitions.

    As always, thanks for another great video. I bought the Sabrent cloner and a bigger SSD. Now I just need to do it. I'm thinking about making a clone in MBR first, "just in case". Then change the original to GPT, change to UEFI and verify it still boots. If all is good, do the clone again in GPT. (original SSD is 120gb, new SSD is 500gb)

    • @ThisBytesForYou
      @ThisBytesForYou  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed it. As for the $80, this was just an example, if you are using a desktop, you can just install another drive, the new blank drive, to another SATA port and another SATA power connection and then clone it. On a laptop, you are a little restricted, some laptops have additional bays you can use, but very few. What are you working with and if anything, what is your budget?

    • @MichaelGreenham
      @MichaelGreenham 6 місяців тому +1

      It's an HP laptop, budget isn't the issue as much as value. A single use 80$ is more than the SSD drive itself. So I guess the whole process has to be evaluated to see if the cost is worth faster boot times. No matter what comes of that eval your videos are seriously the best I've seen on UA-cam. Thank you for taking the time

What would happen to all my programs/apps that are stored on my old HDD?, because I have read that they may not work but not sure if that's true. I will unninstall some graphics card drivers and print drivers from the HDD before putting the SSD.

    • @ThisBytesForYou

      hey bud, you are in good hands, we were all noobs at one point, we had to start some where and I haven't forgot that (I don't use noob negatively), we are a very friendly channel. With Windows, where you install the program isn't just the folder, there are hundreds of registry entries, ini entries that point to where the data is, and scattered files written through out the drive, so there is no clean way to do that. I would recommend a clean install of windows, and all the programs and such and PLEASE make sure the SSD is your boot drive, I recommend to not have any other drive installed when you install windows. Also, if this is new hardware, I highly recommend you use windows 11, its awesome. I have videos here on how to do it all, if you need them, please let me know.

    I just used this program to clone my 256mb SSD to a 2TB SSD yesterday. I meticulously followed every step in this video (I knew my PC already used GPT but I still double checked every step). The new drive would not boot when installed via SATA or USB (when I checked that option). I must have erased and restarted the process five times. Then, all of a sudden, it worked.
