I watched old gravity hammers beat on bedrock all day long. This beast would crack its teeth on that bedrock and turn it into gravel, easy peasy. I watched exactly the opposite with an old Delmag 15,000lb unit hitting on pilings on top of underground water tables. One blow, down 6 feet! the derrick's rocking back and forth, threatening to topple. The operator has balls or brains of custard to lift up and drop the hammer again. DOWN another 6 feet! No way near bearing. The heads consult and shut down. Next day they had a smaller gravity hammer out and a smaller crane. Much better at stability and getting to bearing without losing the rig.
In the exhaust i saw $$ sighns coming out after each combustion. This job is great. Whole jobsite clears your workspace u come in setup all the wholes are marked as long as u dont hit a old railroad line or rock or some gas line you making big big $$
As a geotechnical engineer I say there is no other sound as mighty and majestic as hard driving with an open-end diesel hammer.
I often hear this pile driver sound when I was little

What kind of purpose does this machine fulfill and what would make it a good source of income if you don't mind me asking.
Currently listening to this as I come off of night shift while they widen a bridge next to me.....
Good job.
