I love your videos. I teach human resource management at uni and always encourage my students, as future human resource professionals, to make sure they recruit people only and only based on their competencies. I really want to invite you to join my class this semester to raise awareness about the job search challenges that the disabled people face and what human resource managers can do about it, but as I am based in the UK it will be too early for you :(
I’ll definitely invite you if I taught afternoon classes.
Again thank you for sharing your experience in the best possible way.

Oh Cayla, you covered things very well. The only thing I would add is the fact that our memory should be an added sense. We have to remember everything. Such as where we put things, What we need at the store, what the blue blouse feels like etc. So, our memories are pretty sharp. Good conversation!

My shins are pretty scarred. I wear my visor at the gym to protect my head and face. I relate to everything you're saying about finding work, friends and everything else. I wish I could have seen more vids like you're making 30 years ago.

Brent Slensker yeah I think my shins definitely get it the worst. I wish I had seen videos like this 10 years ago when I was a teenager and had no one to relate to and was very embarrassed about my vision impairment. But I guess it’s never too late

The 1st thing about being blind is being on someone else's side back when I can see something that normally would take me 5 minutes to do or go to the store for now I have to wait sometime leaving weeks just to get something

New View Oklahoma is a warehouse. But there’s also offices. A lot of job opportunities for you. Line work, labor, computer stuff. Whatever really. I’ve worked there 4 years. I got RP like you. Just check it out. I know it’s probably not ideal or whatever. Probably not even gonna happen but it is an option.

  • @splintq

Congratulations on all your success! Keep charging and stay motivated. I was diagnosed with RP in 1993 but it did not stop me. I entered the U. S. Navy in 1997 and retired in 2017. I have driven this countries best submarines and led some great sailors. Now even with the struggle of unemployment I am still looking for that next great business to start myself because it is hard getting employers to realize your abilities being legally blind.

I've been considering writing a book about my experience as a blind person, I was born relatively sighted in comparison, so I have a unique perspective. What would you like to read in a book like that?

    • @jacquelinesmith-jackson2815

The perspective of my brother fucking sucks along with the perspective of everyone else in Springfield Missouri for that matter.
      😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
When I was growing up every single person was from the fucking Holocaust and almost every teacher I encountered was mean as shit. I was told over and over again I was not disabled and I was playing the disability card.............. I fucking wanted so badly to cry my fucking eyes out because I have a step brother. His name is Jacob and when he was 5 he decided to go to every place in Missouri where I grew up and he gave everyone a picture of me. He also told employers not to hire me because of all my disabilities.
Now my brother Jacob is the kind of person who doesn't respect anyone at all. He pulls pranks on people and he steals money and food from people as well.
      😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I was harassed so many fucking times in my life because of the amount of disabilities I have. Jacob admitted when he was five years old that he was gay as well. My mom grew up with deaf parents and deaf great aunts and deaf great uncles and they were ten times nicer to me than my brother was. I was harrassed in grade school because I was 1 student with disabilities out of 100 children.
      💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
      💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔
It was a school that was made for Jehovah's Witnesses. He started shaving my head a long with my step dad because they wanted all boys and my older sister her name is Kyndra. She got her head shaved as well.

I can relate to this! With my visual impairment. There’s times I wish I could drive. I wish people would not treat us “differently.” But I look at the bright side of it. I have a very unique way of living life! I feel happy for who I am and what I’m capable of doing! I’m currently a volunteer at my local hospital and I’m the only visually impaired person there! But it gives me the opportunity to educate and PROVE people wrong! Everybody is really nice to me! They treat me as any other person!

Just found out that one of my neighbors is legally blind after losing contact for a really long time. I couldn't imagine what is likely to be legally blind. Mad respect for the visually impaired 🤘🤘 also what kind of jobs can you get as a legally blind person? Or what kind of jobs might be easiest. Coming from general curiousity. I am a stage lighting programing and live sound engineering I can see how you could reallie on hearing. No pun intended but yes mad respect for the visual impaired 🤘✌️

Hi. Thank you. There are a lot of jobs that blind people can do, it just depends on their specific skills and interests. I am currently working towards becoming a therapist. I think call centers are a common job for blind people. Really anything on the phone or computer is something that a blind person could do. But if someone is good at what they do, they can usually find a way to adapt it.

    Here are my problems
    1) A cited person doesn’t trust me because I’m visually impaired.
    2) At night I always run into things.
    3) I cannot see in the dark at all.
I have a long history of disabilities like Cerebral Palsy and Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and I have shunts and I’ve had over 50 brain surgeries. I have Uveitis and at one point I had Iritis.
I also have had 3 hip surgeries. The first one I had when I was 3 years old I had hip abductor surgery. The second one I had my left hip fixed 2 weeks before my Fourteenth birthday 🎁 in 2008. The third hip surgery was a hip replacement and I had the hip replacement in 2016 because of Osteonecrosis and Osteoarthritis.
Osteonecrosis is when bone dies and breaks down.
Osteoarthritis is when the blood doesn’t flow in the hip and then the bones rub together.

You're right that being blind is not the worst thing in the world and I'm sure you are right that there are positives to it too. It's still one of the most terrifying prospects for me as a currently-sighted person though that I'm likely to be legally blind one day. It's made harder by the fact that I'm already moderately hearing impaired and the idea of losing another sense is really scary.

    • @CaylawithaC
      @CaylawithaC  5 років тому

I totally understand that it is really scary, especially to lose more than one sense. I am afraid of the possibility of losing my hearing, although I don’t believe it’s likely. So I definitely understand you being scared. I wish you the best❤️

I don't actually care for the word blind 90% of the time I use the words visually impaired or visual impairment the word blind to me personally I don't like because it makes me feel like I'm totally blind which I am not to me visual impairment is in my explanation partially impaired that's it I'm partially impaired well everyone thinks differently that's just me

    • @CaylawithaC
      @CaylawithaC  5 років тому +1

I think everyone has their own terms that they prefer. Personally, I used to refer to myself as visually impaired back when I had a little bit better vision. Now I usually use legally blind or blind since I don’t really have much useable vision left. So I definitely understand what you’re saying. I think it depends on the level of vision a person has

So I am legally blind as well. It basically means what someone who is standing 200 feet away can see, a legally blind person would have to be maybe 30 feet or 50 feet away.
I know for me I am 20/40 in the right eye and 20/60 in the left eye.
      😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
No legally blind people can't drive a car. If they go to a place like the movies were everything is dark, someone will have to help them and if they tried to read I spy books someone would have to help them.
      😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
In places like Disney World or Silver Dollar City these people need lots of help. Hospitals and doctor's offices are a couple more places where legally blind people need lots of help.

But for those of us who were born that way it's absolutely fine and we can do as much as you can. No need to pity us.

I lost 90% of my vision at 30 and I wish I'd died instead. I Pollyanna'd my way thru for about 20 yrs but it's really pure shit. I went from making about 100k a yr to 300 a month, no transit & everyone bales like rats off a ship. No agencies provided anything because I was an adult - I had 23 case workers & even with a degree (pre med with honors and 6 yrs of paralegal experience & other work) I was deemed unemployable. I was told to "marry up". I ended up marrying someone that kept me as a servant for 28 yrs completely isolated. No one even knew he was married; I was so financially hamstrung I was stuck. The other blind ppl I knew from disabled transit committed suicide, so while I'm very glad that Cayla is doing well, it's not the norm. I've been kidnapped by drivers, beaten, threatened, stalked & raped (because u can't identify them can you?). Blind may not be the worst thing that can ever happen to you but it's top 10
