- After K-swapping a super clean (and somewhat expensive) EK Honda Civic we got off a granny with the help of some mates from all over the world, it's off to the dyno to find out exactly how many V-TECs it has made, and whether Scotty reckon's its a good build. Will it transform our grocery getting slow hatchback into an epic performance vehicle? Let's find out!
Check out the full build on the main channel:

Always enjoy vids with Scotty. Smart and eloquent.
every time he's on a video I forget his name and assume it's Hal 😅
I love this style of video. Would love to see more extended dyno runs that don't make the main channel cut
Hood exit
A little bit of extended cut dyno action for you! Check out the build video of our mad K-Swapped Honda Civic: ua-cam.com/video/NNOM7QbqeOc/v-deo.html

Did you ever figure out what the ticking tapping noise was that Scotty heard? You could hear it in the video too
I giggled when I heard it not rolling over, and Scott's expression changed when he went for all the beans.. Marty, in utter disbelief. The rumble in those seats.. epic build..
NOICE
I don’t remember seeing them put in better valuesprings. Honestly valve springs are good for a few hp up top because the K-series used lighter seat pressure springs for economy. But they start to float before the cams start running out of flow at high rpm. (Even with stock cams)
So if they accidentally overlooked that. It was a pretty big missed opportunity.😢 and one that really would’ve helped. Otherwise it’s going to float valves when you’re going all out.
Plus with the balance shaft delete, you won’t even notice the slight economy loss from added resistance of a tiffer Springs.
Scotty's explanations make it so much easier to understand. Thanks Scotty.
It needs a bigger resonator to control that rasp. Then it would sound much better
So that's how it works. Good to know
Straight pipe m8
Seems like most civic guys like the angry wasp noise.
Scotty's knowledge and Marty's questions are like mechanical food for my soul.
i would watch a show where marty and scotty dino a different car every episode.
As an owner of a k24 swapped EG and Datsun 1600 - I can say Scotty is a man of good taste :)
My friend bought a cheap ek1 and we were throwing the k24 swap idea arounf for a few weeks. This build series dropped. Its a sign. FULL VTEC AHEAD!!! Thanks guys
That engine and that platform is a masterpice. Great work
Now put a K20A2 head on the K24!
almost 30 minutes of the Tunign Fork working his magic.
WIckedddddd
Put a fork in it, its done? :)
Scotty is the man! VTAAAAAAAKKKKKK!
Hope to see a collab video with Gears and Gasoline! Ben also has an EK with a K20 head and K24 block combo that Marty can do as well. Endless possibilities with this setup and as a honda guy I'm really excited for the next episodes!
Pretty sure Ben's EK has a full K24A2 out of a TSX instead of the KFrank K24/K20. He's running in GLTC now, which allows engine internal modifications but they have to meet specific power output dyno rules, but before GLTC he was in Track Battle (time attack) and the class he ran in didn't allow head swap or internal engine upgrades: "Factory internals are specified as pistons, compression ratio, rods, camshafts, head and block casting, bore and stroke size and head porting (example: K24 swap ok, K24 block with k20 head not allowed, etc)".
I don't recall seeing him changing from a K24A2 to a K24/K20 for GLTC and instead it looks like he's been focusing on optimizing the chassis/aero/brakes.
For the build of that Honda Civic, I remember from multiple sources that you will need a 3 inch exhaust which is the perfect spot for k20 and k24's with this build. I dont remember if it is with or without turbo. If you go with a bigger resonator, it will make the exhaust sound better
3 inch exhaust system naturally aspirated without turbo. Because of how efficient they are, people have found out that's the best diameter for breathing with naturally aspirated builds.
Scotty's confidence face at 15:25 = priceless.
When you're ready to bring back 2Sexy, I'll come and help. It's not just Honda's that get the love!
That generation hatch will always be the best looking Civic. Real sweet spot. Good looks, good front suspension. Nice and light. Such a great car
Love these little K swap Hondas, so fun to drive. My old k20/24 em1 made 167kw had no problems keeping up with cars with almost double the power. Theyre fun, reliable, cheap to run and maintain. Had my fair share of turbo cars but little hondas are so fun to drive always end up back in one. Glad to see you guys doing a k swap build ❤
Back in 2017 I raced a tuned prelude or integra (cant remember which) in my stock r34 GTR, the thing kept up with me till 80kph, at around 100kph i was only a car length ahead. I was flabbergasted.. Honda's are great cars, have mad respect for them. I hope i never come across a turbo'd one 😅
Super excited MCM !!!
I told Jackson Brothers to hit you up for a collab farming video in NSW.
I've had two RD7 CR-Vs with K24s, not a performance car by any stretch, both were high km workhorses that got flogged, I broke just about everything on those cars EXCEPT the engines. One of them had over 400,000 kms on it and was still pulling hard. Absolutely unbreakable engines.
I'm surprised Scotty didn't mention the StanceWorks Ferrari, that K24 is BUILT, like capable of 1000hp when it's turned right up. maybe this was filmed before the StanceWorks guys came to town for Time Attack. Absolutely phenomenal car, Scotty featured in a few of those vids, the bloody legend he is.
Speaking of Barra engines. In the 80's Ford Australia needed help with their 6 cylinder engines. They employed Honda to design their cylinder heads. The Ford Alloy Head II was designed by Honda.
Source ?
We built a hi RPM Ek KA24 destroked to 2.2 a few years back, belted out 380fwhp NA on E85. People have no clue how capable these motors really are.
Thanks for showing us the full tuning session. I could listen and learn from Scotty all day !!
Wow Scotty is such a fountain of knowledge, what a legend !
Lets appreciate the fact VTEC has been a thing since like 1989.
I have heard the knocking sounds more then just when Scotty pointed it out... Maybe Worth looing into
Hondas are awesome.
Scotty working on the Stanceworks K swapped Ferrari recently was also a good one!
Bouncing off the limiter like a real Hondaboy
Or just tuning on a dyno lol
The limiter is whatever he says it is.
2100 ish lbs with 220ish whp. That's gonna be a bit fun!
Up next: installing a CR-V drivetrain for some real-time 4WD action! Great video!
I fully enjoy watching Scotty tuning because of how he does it quite meticulously. I've tuned a lot of B-Series, and while a bit different, the end goal is the same. VTEC and iVTEC crossover is the key to making a great curve that does the trick! Great video mates!
3 inch exhaust and a 3.5 inch cold air intake and it would make more.
Thanks for posting guys. Super interesting.
Love seeing a less edited version of the tuning process. So informative!
EK for life!
ED or EG
Tbh I never liked civics when I was younger. I’ve never owned them but when these cars get taken to the next level they are insane! I think I love them now ha
Scotty is such a legend! Loved the conversation at the end.
Great result and I like the expanded tuning session from Scotty since he knows a ton about tuning. One request: for these sorts of tuning/dyno vids, could we get a PIP setup so we can see the Dyno numbers in real-time? That would be interesting
Scotty is just the best. So shill and knows ALL the stuff❤
Excellent! I think I can hear the noise Scotty was talking about, clearest example at 11:45 !
Sooo glad you boys chose to give this dyno run its own video. Scotty is the man, and its great to see his process. 🤙🏻
Brilliant video - really love the more in-depth dyno stuff. As a DIY home-tuner on my own cars (various Honda's on Hondata and an R53 Mini on Ecumaster) this was really fascinating to watch. The cam control stuff in particular, thanks for going this deep and showing it
Awesome breakdown with the Tuning Fork himself. Love it.
Chewning Fauwk!! Love Scotty!
I absolutely love the tuning videos. You guys makes everything sound so easy 😅 all you need is this engine and these parts it just bolts right and you know😅 just get this ECU you'll have it figured out and tuned by the end of the weekend😅
Bless you Tuning Fork
17:30 Scotty gives you the look after upping the moon shot to a mars shot.
That Honda civic sounds amazing With VTEC Engine it goes really fast Well Done Marty👏👏👏👏
That's all Scotty's secret sauce... His facial expression says it all. The face of a man that just gave you his top secret recipe for a bangn kebab!
Agh.. that ECU is now a priceless work of art.
Love this bonus stuff. You guys are really getting to understand what your biggest fans want to see on this channel - supercuts, disrespected stuff, extracurricular projects. Everyone's here for everything you leave on the cutting room floor cos we wanna spend more time watching you and everything you do. We'd watch an uncut trip to get kebabs if we could.
Scotty is an absolute LEGEND.
Thanks Marty and Scott for the video. It was great to see the work that goes into tuning. I guess all up with the ECU, Wiring, Cam, plus all the other stuff you would be pushing $10-12k for that build. Labour costs would be more again.
Love this video focused on the dyno!
i gained 1 horsepower from Scotty's eyebrow raise @17:31
Dunno why but I like tuning fork, good guy. We all need a friend like him
All the power runs done in Neutral according to the display!
Scotty loves a blast of the aul vtec. Great video, and excellent results, now get a big turbo on that.
Just listening to Scotty, is freaking brilliant, I watch American UA-cam channel Boosted Bozs, and they run these engines and turbo, great video Marty and Scotty
Tuning fork is a master on the keyboard !!! Honda The power of dreams !!! Welcome to the Honda club MCM !!! 😜👍🇦🇺
The best club, Honda for life.
Within our group of friends we have a K20-EK and a built-B16-EF9. The K Motors are amazing and the aftermarket is great but the little B is a bit more raw in a good way and inside the light old chassis also lots of fun. Much slower though, even with nearly 200hp at the flywheel.
Man I could listen to Scotty all day non stop
Scotty is a legend
4:30 there was a knocking/clunking sound that went away, at least 5 or 6 knocks in a row..
I got my MUM'S hand-me-down 180B Triple SSS Datsun.. Burnt Orange, 5 speed manual, sunroof, Magnums.. The Old Man had to take the dual Webbers off it was too much for Mum to drive haha!
the j32a2 in my miata ia awesome love the swaps
The more detailed version is excellent great video
Tuning Fork is the man, whenever i come up with questions watching the vid i can count on them being answered in it sooner or later. He loves what he's doing and it's so contagious the dude might cause another pandemic. Sic!
Awesome video. I always like the more technical stuff, and anything with The Tuning Fork is good! I've been watching for years and still enjoy every video! Also, do you have any idea what that power is at the crank? It has to be over 100hp per liter.
always love to see sir scott from haltechnology
Thats pretty bloody impressive for an NA 2.4 motor. Admittedly its got a cam in it but it doesnt seem to be very 'aggressive' like its still making good power everywhere
And that's only lightly modified. There's a lot more you can do than that naturally aspirated.
you can use e30 e36 manual gearboxes with k-tuneds swap kit(theres an adapter in the kit)
Scotty always brings the goods
always minty fresh at haltech!!
Great stuff!
You mentioned that the camry doesn't have vtec... the 2zz-ge is a great engine to get your hands on...has variable lift and timing! Toyota calls it VVTL-I
tons of toyotas have VVTI lol, I think the difference is it's more economy focused and not power focused
@@clays.9662 they do! But only the 2zzge had VVTL-I
Awesome. Def one of the best Civic gens. AWD next? Id kill to get a built K20 in a Miata (20 can rev higher generally)
keep tuning boys.these make more stock than what yr getting
Scotty is just the Best.😘
so its ~ 240 engine horse power?
216.5 whp = ~240 hp
If I was a racing driver, I would want Tuning Fork as my lead engineer.
Dear MCM, Skid Factory, BCW, Haltech, The Build Room, Isaac, Humble Mechanic, Deboss Garage, HartleyEngines, and Roadkill Freiburger+Finnegan
Make it so!
Kindest regards,
Andrew
I have a Chrysler 300C Wagon (stock 5.7L Hemi V8) and I reckon this thing would beat it in a drag race...
That's kinda scary. I'd love to try and make it happen one day...
Awesome build and video :)
EK civic is still the best!
Honda for life! Remember people this is only lightly modified.💪
Man id love that car !!!!
Sould definitely convert to itb's for the na purity!!!
Why didn't Scotty adjust the tacho rev range on the Haltech dash? I'm pretty sure you can adjust the display to whatever rev range and redline you want.
When your tuner give you that look
🚗💥💨🔥
Welcome to 4am youtube, where you forgot that autoplay is on, now its a random Honda on a dyno video, waking you up.
Next up, formula Drift.
I get the impression that he may have been a bit conservative with the vtc angle tuning. That combo is usually good for 240-250 whp on a chassis dyno.
They might still be on pump gas
On e85 that set up should make 230-240
@@LiveHD2 it'll do the numbers I stated on premium pump gas. They could be using a dyno that reads lower than average, and may be at a high elevation. Even if that's the case, I'd still expect higher than 215whp.
k20 head would do wonders for this engine! normal 2.0 k20 runs 235-250bhp with the same mods
Is that Aussie hp or American 😂
Years later you are finally getting the right Honda power. 😂 Most have sold them who i knew.
Do a 0-100 and 1/4mile on it please. 🙏👌
I really enjoy these disrespected nose videos. Wish you did them more. Great content as always.
Big Nostrils on this beast. Look at the plate @ 19:42
Get a K20 head bro! It really helps.. easy! 230whp.. N/A change valves, springs, add ITBs and you can make close to 260Whp... and you're not boosted! 😂 So super reliable.
This one made 90Whp per liter! And you're not even revving that high your tune is super conservative.
I love nights where I cant sleep, because I can randomly fire up my subs and find these legends uploaded half an hour ago! Result!
Buy an universal o ring for the coolant cap, easy fix
An amazing video... getting the wizard to do wizardy things
All hail the TUNING FORK
Awesome
