This is so real. As someone who was a DreamSMP fan at it's peak, I was SO obssessed, crazily obssessed. It genuinely felt like an altered state of self, it was so abnormal. And then I came out the other side of it, and gained some clarity and looked back on it and was like..... "what was that??? That was so weird! What happened??"

So glad someone said it. I had the same thing happen. I don’t know if it was because life was shitty cause of Covid or if it’s some mental health thing but the dsmp and tommyinnit specifically had a death grip on me. I’m normal about it all now, and it feels so weird to look back on. Was that normal? Do sad teenagers feel that way about interests? Or was it dangerously parasocial?

    Great video, guys!
On another note: Tommy, if you are genuinely experiencing excessive thirst, ask your doctor about getting your blood tested if he or she hasn’t already. As a type 1 diabetic, extreme thirst was one of my major symptoms before I was diagnosed. Watch out for excessive thirst, frequent urination/bed wetting, weight loss, hunger, fatigue, nausea, etc.
If your doctor already knows about your situation, you’re probably fine, but I was diagnosed at 16 a few years ago and we had dismissed symptoms until then.

The craziest part for me is hearing Phil talk about how Tommy was when he was 15/16 I was about 13 when I had started watching Tommy and his channel. I started watching mostly during the DSMP and mostly watching Tom's POV (of course also watching one who will not be named, Phil, and Techno, technos lore went CRAZY) but I remember seeing how loud he was almost not caring if people did find him annoying at first and it truly did inspire me, I was 13, anxious as hell going through a very rough time at home and watching how confident Tommy seemed inspired me to better myself and get over all the social anxiety and just the anxieties of life in general I'm glad I'm still here watching

Distancing from the fandom has been actually insane to see the jump. I remember watching Jack when he was getting 40 K and Tommy when he was getting like 100k and I also thought that that was completely normal and I was like wow twitch is like actually insane like i couldn’t comprehend how many people where watching I can’t imagine how y’all felt and I was a part of that insane side of the community like it felt like possession. It was the only thing I thought about it was really bad like I get hyper fixations regularly because I have really bad ADHD but that was incomparable. but like he mentioned, its actually so chill, i feel like the chat is also a massive part of the stream, even if phil is focusing on a build, the chat can have its own thing going on and its actually fun to check in on the chat, and i haven’t found this much anywhere else.
i feel like phils chat is like its own thing in a way, the community is just so funny and welcoming and its not just “streamer streamer streamer” but its actually a conversation and jokes that are often fully removed from the streamer. at least to me, its a special sort of culture thats been built that i really appreciate

Now as an adult, a university student with a full time job and bills to pay, watching this video has healed something within me. I would watch streams in my zoom classes, rush through my school work, then hope on minecraft to practice parkour or draw fanart to post on twitter. And the twitter community was insane, especially with the artists. We *lived* on that app. I didn't get to the level of merging content creators with their characters, but a lot of people did. The DSMP was weird honestly. Like just the absolute hold it had on a good chunk of people. I mainly followed Tommy's timeline since he was the closest one to ke in age and that his character was really not mentally well.
But it was weird to me how the actual kids(under 18 participants) were treated like humanity's worst, while adults were blowing up countries and being dictators(quite literally in certain cases). But it seemed like a lot of the time the kids were mimicking what was around them and getting a backhand rather than a slap on the wrist.
    It was weird man.

I didn't go on the internet until I was 18. Despite all the pain it's brought me, it brought me so many friends and people who love me, and a better understanding of the world and myself. I think that the way internet spaces are managed needs some work, but it is such a wonderful tool for understanding each other and finding belonging.

Phil talking about life before the internet makes me feel old 😂 I'm Gen Z but my life was WILDY different than people born slightly after me
I remember how incredible it was to use walkie talkie "cell phones" with my family when I was playing down the street somewhere. There was a single, shared computer kept in a cabinet with a pull-out keyboard drawer that ALWAYS rolled out too fast and smacked you.
Bikes were EVERYTHING, with bikes and scooters you could hang out with anyone in town! Friends weren't always the best, but you would bond over tiny trivial things and keep them around because there literally wasn't anyone else.
I was lucky enough to have siblings, so we spent a lot of time together riding bikes, playing in the woods, and playing video games. We also read a lot of Archie comics, cuz they were cheap and in EVERY grocery store.
It was a rite of passage to have your own phone hooked up to the landline in your room. I called my friend for the first time and we were on the phone so long, not even talking, just excited to call. There was a chalkboard near the phone so you could write down any numbers to remember.
When I got older, I was in online public school, LONG before pandemic and it becane normal. People couldn't believe that I was "homeschooled" but also had teachers and classmates and a class schedule. I had a lot of discipline and responsibility, but I also had a lot of access to the internet unsupervised 😂 It's definitely a double edged sword.

As someone who's going into the space industry I can talk to regulations going on about space junk! 1) very small and short lifespan satellites are now legally required to deorbit (crash n burn(don't worry its very safe)) within 5 years of launch, and there's several projects I've seen working on how to retrieve larger satellites that are otherwise "stuck" by a net and catch system. There's also talk of requiring all satellites to have thrusters, which will allow them to either do a quicker deorbit, or cooperatively be caught, as well as just to help avoid mid-space collisions. The thrusters requirement is not official, and likely far from it, but it is a conversation I've been hearing for a few years now
