  • We're repairing the masonry of the chimney wall, and the passage with the construction of a vault, before the placement of a beam... 👇
    With the pulling movements of the outside walls, the shear wall has suffered quite a bit in the corners. So we're repairing the stone masonry of these.
    And in the opening, as a lintel, a low-arched vault is built. This allows us to place the beam as a wall joist.

    Note on the vault lexicon illustration:
    * From what we understood, as the elements of the vault are bricks, rectangular, they are not really segments (or archstones) which have a wedge shape.
    It's the joint, of variable thickness, thicker on the extrados, and thinner on the intrados, which compensates for this.
    Similarly, in the case of a brick vault, the central segment named as "keystone", is not technically correct, even though the function is the same.
