- Belizean Dukunu is sweet tamales type dish made by grating corn on the cob and adding a few more ingredients like coconut milk, shortening, salt, black pepper and corn meal. In this video I'll show you an easy way you can make the dukunu by blending kernel corn in the can.

It’s been a looong time since I’ve eaten dukunu. There was a lady that would walk around my neighborhood(Bze.) selling both dukunu and tamales, when I was a kid. I can still remember the sound of her voice when she yelled ‘Tamales and Dukunuuuu’, lol. Great vid!❤️❤️❤️
It's our tradition. We don't complain as belizean. It's our way, and we love. We are not lazy people.
My friends mom just made this for us the other week, first time I've heard of it. Cool to see how its made!
Chris and I are making these to go with our Thanksgiving dinner mmm mmm!!!
Will make sure to order my cookbook directly from you 😊😊😊
I'm making this right now for new year's dinner with roast pork. Thank you for the recipes. Happy, healthy New Year to you and your family.
I absolutely love your family. ❤
I like it sweet, I need the sugar lol. So I should do all sweet can is that the cream can? Love the show
one time I made ducunu from watching u, it came out so good. I am ready to try again.
I love that my mom learned the method of blending the kernel corn in the can. I hate grating stuff.
Can you do video on how to make them with stew chicken inside PLEASE?
I CANT FIND the recipe no matter how hard I try. Restaurants don't make them for sale. Grandmother in Belize made and sold and I have not had in over 20 years now.
I loved the sweet and savory taste of both together.
I don't like tamales. I love Dukunu with stew chicken inside.
Thanks
I've never made them that way. Do you remember if the chicken was picked from the bone?
Thank you, yes work smart not hard. Who has time to buy, wash, cut corn
Were do I go to purchase your book again.
Barbara, I still open my cans with a knife 😆 and it's much faster and easier, lol.
Yum!
Mrs. Barbara can you use coconut oil instead of shortening.
I believe the coconut oil would work too.
I will like to purchase your book .how is the best way to send u message not public. My name is patty from belize live in La
Great vid! My mother used to add bacon bits to hers and it was sweet somehow. She is no longer with us so I can't ask but do you think she added sugar or she used the sweet corn? It was a subtle sweetness...
I’ve recently learned that some people use evaporated milk. You can definitely put meat in it. People put beef or pork.
Corn mean doesn't exist here in Taiwan
Can i use corn starch?
No cornmeal has the texture as if we used grated corn 🌽 on the cob. If you have a food processor that allows you to blend the corn without the water from the can of corn, I’d try it that way.
If you do not mind, could you describe the way it should taste for us non Belizean folks? How do we know if we have got it right, or wrong?
And do you feel using just the foil changes the taste? I am only guessing, but I would expect the husks to add an earthiness...
Can I use almond milk instead of coconut milk?
How come you don't make money from your first book, that's sad
when u just use the foil it takes away from the flavor.
Wrong way to use a can opener. You should try cutting top surface inside edges down not outsides across, cutting everything top surface all the way around except a 1/2 inch piece, then fold lid into can. That in my opinion is the safest way to discard a sharp possibly dangerous object that can Injure a person or an animal..
I've tried your way, but can't make it work. My daughter, however has it down pat. She gets it to work every time.
@@TheBarePantryShow Its all good, as long as you are comfortable with your process. Love your show and love your Fam. Thanks for Highlighting Belize and its great Culture & Cuisine.
