- PCLinuxOS was once a very popular desktop Linux distribution in the early 2000s, but you never hear it mentioned nowadays. I think that is a shame so today I'm doing an installation and first look at the latest PCLinuxOS KDE (released about 3 months ago).

Love that you gave PCLinuxOS some well deserved love. I am still in contact with Texstar, the founder, and some other members from the old guard. I was never disappointed with PCLinuxOS. It just worked. It still does. Also the magazine is still alive and kicking with some dedicated members working hard for a monthly edition. Probably the best Linux community I ever had the pleasure to be part of. I know Texstar has some health issues lately and others jump in and help out. They had lovely wallpapers back in the days. Hopefully somebody jumps in and creates some future ones. I had to rub my eyes and look twice....

Man, I remember that Mandrake was THE #1 distro everyone was running from about 1999-early 2000s, back when Red Hat went commercial-only after the original Redhat 9(not enterprise) as their final community version. Mandrake Linux was originally a respin of the community Red Hat Linux.
PCLinuxOS is a modern day Mandrake. Yes it is a good desktop OS.
This one gives me some cozy Windows Vista vibes 💪😁
I used PCLinuxOS for many years and still recommend it to newbies looking for something easy to use. While KDE is supposed to be the flagship version, I always found it a bit buggy and preferred the MATE (or XFCE) versions for stability. I even got my hand in my pocket and donated a small monthly amount to show my faith in it. Happy days but I jumped ship to MX Linux over 3 years ago now, but still have a soft spot for PCLinuxOS.
I've been using PCLOS for more years than i like to think about. I started Linux with Mandrake and moved to Texstar when he started making better packages that Mandrake did. Get irritated occasionly with it and try something else, but right back to it.
PCLinuxOS has been my daily driver since 2006. Love it, it just works for what I do. The forum and magazine are fantastic support. "Radically Simple" as the slogan says!
The Russian ROSA took over Mandrake/Mandriva when it went bankrupt and had its own tools for managing the system. That used to be a big player back in the day but now this distribution is overshadowed by Ubuntu and Fedora.
Greetings. I am an user of PCLinuxOS for about two years, Xfce of course. It is a very flexible and robust distro. I installed it in a HP laptop I had trouble with driver compatibility for internet connection. I used all sorts of distros (Xubuntu, Fedora, Garuda, Debian, Arch and others), all of them would crash. Only PCLinux worked and I was impressed with this distro. Every single bit of the distro worked straight out of the box. It is a rolling distro, almost everyday there are updates. I suggest the Synaptic for the updates.
I was Ubuntu guy back in high school in 2007, but PCLinuxOS was the first distro I've ever installed on my PC in 2006-ish. I remember it using GNOME 2 desktop and everything just works even without need to installing multimedia codecs from repo.
There is elegance in the barebone aspects of PClinuxOS.
I had Mandriva, it was absolutely great, even for todays standards. They devlivered a very beautiful KDE-Desktop + fantastic (graphical) system tools. I was very happy with Mandriva.
Thankful that we have people like you still on here making videos. I think we share the same opinions on many things both Linux and every day life in 2023. I don't get notifications like I use to so I search for it. Still here watching.
Looks like some of the best software Linux has to offer is installed right out of the gate and I love the simple menu.
I used and loved PCLinuxOS for years before moving to Arch (btw). I even made a respin called MythTVOS back in 2008. Good times :)
Oh i got started on mandrake in 2000 -2001 that was the good ole days when if you wanted a 3d accelerated graphics card drivers installed you had to be ready to compile that kernel and gods help you if your cat ran across your keyboard while you were doing it LOL

this was the first distro I used and I ran it for years. I recently came across my install CD from 2007. I again ran it on my old Macbook from 2016 - 2020 ish.
