From Vedic astrology perspective, I love justice as number 8. In astrology number 8 is planet Saturn. Saturn is the planet of karma, cause and effect, restrictions, order and discipline. And number 8 highly spiritual, it is lucky and prosperous only if a person's action is ethical and spiritually aligned.
4:55 I believe the Pope is misunderstood. The thing about number 5, the Pope/Hierophant is not structure, but EXPERTISE: striving for advantage, leadership, deep knowledge thru study/observation/tests/exploration, and service to others. 5 is rearranging 4 into a better 6. 5 brakes thru the premature structure of 4 with a new +1 element that demands analysis/freedom of thought/movement/emotion. 5 is curious, adventurous, intelligent, unattached. One can only be an expert at anything by keeping up with the world thru study and experience. Stagnant 4 will never be an expert because he won't allow himself to fail (and hence will never grow). The Pope does not enforce structure/traditions/group-mentality over the individual, or tyranny of one individual upon the group. He calls onto RESPECTING the knowledge that has been acquired and the community/family/group we live in, but also finding our NICHE, our ADVANTAGE in that group, our personal CONTRIBUTION. If we don't agree with a certain point in the knowledge or community, the 5 Pope invites us to improve on it, so that EVERYONE may benefit. But doing so respectfully, taking time, and not aggressively. Because the emphasis is on the well-being of the community as a whole (which is only as strong as the weakest individual). The Pope also calls upon finding our leaders and following them (not blindly! but with intelligence), finding the experts and seeking counsel from them, when we ourselves don't have that particular expertise. If you ABSOLUTELY do not identify with the group you are in (not just out of a whim, ok?, but when you feel this group is a stagnant 4 in your life), find yourself a new group. Or form a new one. This is what gay people have done recently, for example. There is a whole supportive community of gay people (and some non) for other gays. See how the other 5s in the deck respond to this.
The way I think of the pope/hirophant is actually that he's a mediator between the material and spiritual worlds (makes sense as a 5, midway point right?) Yes... he is a filter vs the high priestess who is a direct experience, but he puts that spiritual experience into words, he expresses it in a linear, verbal way that allows our left brain to understand and communicate about it... he goes up the mountain, faces God *on our behalf* and writes down words that God says. Because honestly, most of us would be terrified to directly face God, especially when he is angry or displeased. He also protects us in a way. Instead of directly facing divinity with our "sins" and requests, he takes our prayers, advocates for us and cones back with a ruling.
Hands down my favorite video on UA-cam. Watching it yet again :) I have been contemplating about 8s for a long time and trying to make sense of it in TDM as well as alighting with RWS. I do see it as a suffocating structure almost saying “too much”. Swords - two much thinking, overthinking (notice how that flower is getting smaller and smaller as we progress), Cups - too much emotions to the point of isolation ( see how each cup has been isolated by vines), Wands - too much passion, too much on the go, closing us down in the prison like structure; Coins - too many things to take care of, too many material things, trapped in the organized routine, trapped in that workshop not seeing daylight, victim to the routine… thoughts 🤔 hmm
This is by far my favorite video of yours on NUMEROLOGY and how that is related to Tarot. I would like to add for NUMBER 4. The Emperor is about Stability and Structure. Death is about Staleness of that Concept and keeping only what is needed and getting rid of ideas that no longer serve us followed by The Fool (#22 which adds to 4) which is like the breadth of Fresh Air and starting new seeking you got it "Structure" (going back to Emperor). I really enjoyed how you see numerology in terms with Tarot as we may not agree with EVERYTHING but we do see the same pattern. I like to keep Justice as #11 because in my view they both SERVE the HUMANITY. High Priestess Serves Spirituality and Justice Serves Law followed by the Judgement (Resurrection) which in turn sets us free (thoughts and actions coming together making us integrated as Humans).
Really great tutorial. Much appreciated. I will be watching your other videos. Just moved back to the Marseilles deck myself after decades of Waite/Smith. Loving it.
27:04 Dear Kelly I could help you with the numbers and the suits.. I don't know the numbers well, but you have to combine a positive or negative aspect of the number , with the suit. The suits for Marseille are: Wands:Social interactions, Growth, Work, Try Cups:Feelings, Love, Healing, Satisfaction Pentacles: Money, Power. Security, Success Swords: Struggle, Obstacles, Difficulties, Desisions So if we take No 4 as stability and combine it with the suit of wands...it could be a formed social interaction with someone, or a formed work Now if we combine it with the swords that are presenting obstacles, we have the idea of the negative side of the number 4...limitation or instability..
Kelly, you're an absolute STAR. This video has transformed my opinion of the Marseille and now I find myself wanting to dig my old dusty copy out of the bottom of the draw and give it a chance. Thank you so much :-)
I am so excited to see this series. I've been reading about this method for years, and have the Open Reading book, but you're visual approach is a huge help! Thank you!
Thank you so much for making your videos! You dive down all the best rabbit holes and share the most useful information! I've looked into Marseille style decks in the past but never found the pips explained as well as you've explained them here. I finally understand them! And I definitely consider 'hodgepodgery' to be a word. Thanks again!
I enjoyed this very much! Watching the number concepts weave and connect themselves through your open, discovering mind was also fascinating. Number is not a simple dimension in Tarot, but a structure floating in a multidimensional sort of merkabah, tying everything together. To the degree you can see it, it's a true illumination. Good job exploring this in the video.
I have been watching your videos for quite some time and this is the first time I am watching this video and I have learned so much!! You have such an easy way of explaining such complicated information. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world and being such a positive influence♥
Kelly! I am SO happy to hear you talk about the glomming of different systems onto tarot. Because . . . sheesh! And now people so often just take all of that as tarot gospel!
+Jamie Morris I don't mind the different layers on tarot cards, but I think we need a reminder (ME including) that those were additions from a specific esoteric ideology and not the core of tarot itself, it's all very interesting!
I also think, with the Pope, another interesting 5 energy for him is breaking up the stability of the mundane/earthly existence by interjecting the Spiritual and starting you down that new path...
I interpreted your reading at the end, where you didn't ask a question as being sort of like a deck interview, or a message to you about your path of learning the Marseille.
3 is growth and the 3 of swords to me is like growing pains or birthing pains.... necessary pain, harsh love, being kicked out of the nest, etc. It's not done to harm you, but it does hurt.
Hi Kelly! This is just fabulous! Your work with the Marseille, and your VR to Kelly Bear's "5 Deck" challenge, got me thinking... and I posted my own VR... You are such an inspiring teacher.
Brilliant. Thank you. I’m going to binge watch your videos..I’m starting to use the TdM as I kind of get frustrated with the Rider Waite for my intuition says one thing and I feel constricted sometimes with the pictures .
Kelly, thank you for putting out such informative content. This video is fantastic! I’m beginning to really get serious about marseille, and videos like this are incredibly valuable to me. Thank you for sharing these things! 💜
I sooooo agree with you Kelly about the Golden Dawn laying on the symbolism with a trowel. Even so, I think there is a genius in Pixie's illustrations of the pips that covers the whole gamut of human experiences, especially if you throw in reading reversals. So I guess I'd give her a pass on some of the numerology mismatches. Looking forward to this series!
+jiva65 I completely agree about Pixie's work and I didn't mean to downplay the RWS but simply to make it clear that there was a system in place BEFORE those layers that is work looking at :D
What a fabulous lesson/chat, thank you. I am interested in this system but was unsure if it would be for me. Your explanation has deffo made me more interested 👍
Thank you so much, Kelly! I just ordered my first Marseille deck, so this intro is very helpful. And, I am also appreciative of the resources that you have suggested AND provided! 😊🙌
I ordered the deck by Jodorowsky/Camoin. . . Just got it in yesterday. 😊 It's fascinating to contemplate/interpret the pip cards from this new perspective, and to consider the many layers of the people (which way they're looking, if they're looking at each other, their posture, etc.). So many different layers.
Great choice! From what I understand they stayed true to the original colors and cleaned up all the shading and lines which can also "say something" :D Yet another layer!
Good to hear, since I know the colors are also really important. (And I do feel like the clean lines are visually helpful.) Looking forward to digging in and learning more about these different layers! 😄
I actually think of the 7s as blockages. 7 of cups I see as a distraction of too many choices or fantasies, 7 of pentacles is sort of the blockage of fatigue or impatience, 7 of wands is a blockage of needing to defend what you've won or achieved and 7 of swords is maybe someone blocking you through sabotage. Whereas the 5's are breaking out, like you said, disrupting the established order, opening a new dimension. And 3s are creation, which also have a forward movement, but also create a possibility of triangulation or a "third wheel" type of energy. 3 I think also can represent the idea of "more than the sum of it's parts"
To state it somewhat briefly. The swords are not blocking her, they are open for her to walk through. And we often think of her being blindfolded as meaning she can't see the way out, but what if the blindfold is actually preventing her from seeing the *obstacles* often when the eyes are covered, it's a call to use spiritual senses instead, especially combined with water (the subsconscious). This card has a bit of a feel to it for me, like an initiation or some other type of ritual where the person is expected to not rely on their ordinary senses. Where the binding merely is symbolic (hence why she is not tied *to* anything or even bound tightly.) I think her eyes are covered, preventing her from seeing the swords of the conscious mind that are saying "give up. You can't, it's too scary," etc... [the ego protecting itself via the conscious mind, finally killed off in the 10 of words. But in the 9, the blindfold is gone and the fears have taken over, especially the fears of breaking out of the comfort zone, and moving onto the level of the next suit/elemental energy. [Which to me is water because air condenses to water and falls to the ground]
Thank you for this, Kelly. I found it fascinating. I'm trying to dive into the numerology a little more as it relates to tarot. Many happy returns of the day. ^_^
That is a wonderful thing to dive into, I think it can really open things up in the minors especially :D And, many happy returs of the day to you as well :D
this was fabulous! I loved this video (even though I admit I was a little intimidated at the length when I first started it). I really enjoy doing exercises like this myself when I spend time with the tarot, and loved to see that you are interested in the same (and I could experience your thoughts and conversation as you explored the different numerological associations). It was very helpful, and lots of fun! thanks!
The hierophant *breaks through* the material plane, to the spiritual, he is a conduit between the realms, can take our prayers to diety and take dettie's commands down to us... (Basically I got this insight while watching your video... which really just happens non stop on this one.) And he does so by following a specific structure and tradition. 🤨
I am so grateful for this video! I bought the Mary El recently and sacred seed has a nice series of understanding the Mary El, and she mentions that this deck is basically an marseille deck, so I was feeling overwelmed, I don't have a clue how to read marseille, and now ..YOU, my favourite tarot person on youtube has a video on this, soooooooooo grateful for you doing this, thank you so much, the way you explain makes it accessible for me. Can not thank enough! Also to sacred seed, she explains also really nicely! You two are my heroes! Hahahah ...much love fo blackforrest, Germany! 😙😙😙
I am reading a book "The Secret of the Tarot; How the story of the Cathars was concealed in the tarot. So far its interesting! I was thinking of getting another Marseille deck.I think I will just study with The Dame's Fortune Wheel deck I have.
I am very much into deep learning the golden dawn system, both on its own Merritt and also to clearly be able to see (and separate) the GD influence. (And then just as I finished typing this you basically said the same, lol)
Thank you for sharing,i just bought maseille tarot card and this is by far the best explanation for the swords. And would love to see the video how you dk reading using this particular card and looking forward to watch your next marseille card video. Thank you.
1+1=3 is like 1 (mom)+1(dad) create the third energy (child) and the family becomes 3. 2 coming together to make a third thing. Another way is if you are in a relationship, he three entities that exist are each of you as an individual and the relationship itself. (Again 2things come together to create a third)
From what I'm learning of Marseille now, 2 is "attraction" and 3 is more about the relationship. It's also creation and birth I think... I think of the harsher aspects of 3 of swords as the pain associate with birth, the rupture of the membranes, and the harshness of shoving the child out of the warm dark safe womb onto the harsh bright world.... it seems cruel, but it is actually maternal love because the being can no longer stay in the safe dark "comfort zone".... it would literally die and so would the mother. So it's like, the wisdom to know that the pain is necessary, and the "harsh cruelty" is necessary. It's neither of those things but it's interpreted that way because it's uncomfortable and feels unpleasant. And this also makes me think of the devil and the tower, in the devil we are trapped by our complacency and the tower feels harsh and horrible but it's breaking us free.
39:51 oh WOW!! thinking of 3 as creation and even birth, and especially the 3 of swords as labor pains.... then you put up the hanged man and that's how a baby comes out!! Head first (upside down) and even with a cord holding him attached (like the rope....) I just...my mind just went 🤯 Birth, rebirth, death... Not as separate phases of a cycle but as all parts/perspectives of the same
This has been so helpful! I can't wait until your next Marseilles video. I took so many notes! I was gifted a Marseilles deck from a friend, but there was no book. I have been struggling to find good resources about the deck so as to give the deck it's proper respect and not just read it as R/W. I love the bit about color! My swords are different color than yours as well as different color for different number within the suit, so I wonder if that has any influence on reading. I'm not sure which deck I have. It looks very similar to yours, though the flower patterns are much simpler, and there is no green. Love your channel, thanks again!
Number 5 Hierophant is almost now a representation of a new religion (Christianity) that came to Europe (and other places later) that broke down all the previously established society structures and traditions.
I love this video! Thank you very much for all the information shared with us here and the effort you have taken to present it to us. Watching the 3s I had one thought: Empress as mother figure giving birth to the "Hanged Man", which looks to me like a baby coming out upside down. He / her is released via the Empress "portal" ( her v****a), which is symbolized in the "World" card.
Thank you, great video. I have his (CBD) book and deck. I love the deck you have here. I like your comment on The Pope. Something about it has never sat right with me. The Tarot De Ambiguites deck has antlers like the devil coming out of his head dress. Can't find the app on playstore for Android, unfortunately.
I love what you said about the Hermit and the Moon.. not sure if you remember, but when I did that tag talking about 'which tarot card you identify with now?' and I spoke about the Hermit, it could have easily been the Moon, too. But I decided that I was the Hermit exploring the terrain of the Moon. I didn't even think about their numerological association! :)
This looks fabulous! I'm going to come back to this series later. I've got so many new decks to learn at the moment. But I'd really like to learn the Marseilles system xx
Getting back into the TdM system directly due to last year's Tattoo Tarot: Ink & Intuition. Thx for all the great info, Kelly! 🍀🔮👐♑🇨🇮 12:00 The Way of the Tarot's the name of the book youre thinking of, I bet! 😉👊😎
Oh I relate so hard to trying to read tarot after being a playing card reader, and I still love reading pips, trying to get more into tarot and I have a vaguely marseille style deck (Tattoo Tarot by Megamuden), Im excited
@@TheTruthinStory it really is, especially with the 4s like you said, and the numbers in general just feel a little less important in tarot than the suit where it's a bit the other way around for me with playing cards
Thank you so much!!!! This made so much sence😅 I lovebhow you explained things, you did it again!😜 But.... facinating is just another word for interesting😜😂 jk! Thank you🥰
And the marseille pips have nothing to do with the rider waite's illustarted pip cards...don't combine them...a card is good or bad placed if the next card suppots it or not....With the marseille is better doing line spreads..:)
Think about when 2 swords come together, it's usually a clash (a sword fight) where they are each doing each other-- but when two cups chime together, it's normally because someone is making a toast, so there is a union, a coming together. While in yet another case, two comes about because a cell is divided (we see that in the two paths of the wands) or two can be the addition of another thing which doubles the amount of responsibility (2 of coins, might be an example of going from one child to two, where the addition of just one more then doubles the workload) Two is created in different ways- by coming together, by splitting, dividing, by addition into the mix. That's why 2 energy has different types of meanings. And depending on the element/suit it can mean different things as well. If fire doubles, its usually a bigger fire, if earth doubles its going to be two distinct things. Water can be poured into two separate glasses and the same water takes the form of two, Hope this makes sense.
I feel like most RWS books "suffer" from.... just focusing so much on individual cards. There is often barely anything on the suits or the numerology or even the repeating symbolism, the progression, the patterns, directionally, etc... Wayyyy to much "learn each of these cards individually" and then maybe you'll magically know how to read them!
16:40 When she starts explaining how to read the cards
I just want to say that this video seriously never gets old!!
See how the other 5s in the deck respond to this.
I like this. Thanks for sharing!!!

Le Pape is a male spiritual figure who may also unify the Lovers through marriage.
No need to shout.

Really great tutorial. Much appreciated. I will be watching your other videos. Just moved back to the Marseilles deck myself after decades of Waite/Smith. Loving it.
27:04 Dear Kelly
I could help you with the numbers and the suits..
I don't know the numbers well, but you have to combine a positive or negative aspect of the number , with the suit.
The suits for Marseille are:
Wands:Social interactions, Growth, Work, Try
Cups:Feelings, Love, Healing, Satisfaction
Pentacles: Money, Power. Security, Success
Swords: Struggle, Obstacles, Difficulties, Desisions
So if we take No 4 as stability and combine it with the suit of wands...it could be a formed social interaction with someone, or a formed work
Now if we combine it with the swords that are presenting obstacles, we have the idea of the negative side of the number 4...limitation or instability..
Thank you very much for that explanation!!!
Kelly, you're an absolute STAR. This video has transformed my opinion of the Marseille and now I find myself wanting to dig my old dusty copy out of the bottom of the draw and give it a chance. Thank you so much :-)

Love to learn more on the Geomancy side - and how that relates to Tarot/Numerology
this was fabulous! I loved this video (even though I admit I was a little intimidated at the length when I first started it). I really enjoy doing exercises like this myself when I spend time with the tarot, and loved to see that you are interested in the same (and I could experience your thoughts and conversation as you explored the different numerological associations). It was very helpful, and lots of fun! thanks!
I'm glad you enjoyed it!! I know that my videos can be daunting time wise lol, it's just the way it goes :D
The hierophant *breaks through* the material plane, to the spiritual, he is a conduit between the realms, can take our prayers to diety and take dettie's commands down to us...
(Basically I got this insight while watching your video... which really just happens non stop on this one.)
And he does so by following a specific structure and tradition. 🤨
This is fantastic Kelly, there are so many pip decks I would love to work with more, this series is going to be great! 💗🐺💗🐺💗
+foxfire forest I'm looking forward to spending some time with this series :D
I've loved your videos for years. Thank you for the Dropbox links! Xoxo from Cape Town, South Africa
This has helped me a lot. I know a simple thank you cannot suffice, but still... thank you!
Totally enjoyed this. Thank you Kelly 🙏🏻
Perfect! Thank you so much ❤
This video is gold. Thank you.
Such great teaching - thank you for a timeless resource, Kelly!
I am very much into deep learning the golden dawn system, both on its own Merritt and also to clearly be able to see (and separate) the GD influence. (And then just as I finished typing this you basically said the same, lol)
Can you give more info on the cbd tarot app? I can't find it either in Android nor in IOS.
Kelly please please PLEASE 🙏 Put chapters in videos this long!
I'm not sure if I could do it back then, but I will look into it for future ones, thank you for the suggestion!
39:51 oh WOW!! thinking of 3 as creation and even birth, and especially the 3 of swords as labor pains.... then you put up the hanged man and that's how a baby comes out!! Head first (upside down) and even with a cord holding him attached (like the rope....) I just...my mind just went 🤯
Birth, rebirth, death...
+sherribug d :D I'm glad you found it helpful, I hope to have one out a week on the Marseille for the next month!
I can't wait! :)
Number 5 Hierophant is almost now a representation of a new religion (Christianity) that came to Europe (and other places later) that broke down all the previously established society structures and traditions.
Great video, thanks! I've just used it for some notes on lesson 1 of Tom's book ! 😀 Very helpful Kelly 🙏🏼💜
thank u for this. it was really helpful!
You are very welcome, I am glad you found it helpful!!
Thank you for another outstanding video with excellent content!
the deck is from Italy
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing :)
+aitzie olaechea You are very welcome, Ms. Marseille Godmother :D
This was AWESOME Sooo Helpful!!! Thank you
I love what you said about the Hermit and the Moon.. not sure if you remember, but when I did that tag talking about 'which tarot card you identify with now?' and I spoke about the Hermit, it could have easily been the Moon, too. But I decided that I was the Hermit exploring the terrain of the Moon. I didn't even think about their numerological association! :)
+Katey Flowers I DO remember your video on that and how cool is that to see their connections! :D
Thank you so much for this, will you be uploading more videos? Xxx
Kelly, how can I find the next videos to this series. Loved this introduction. I really want to learn this system.
Thank you for sharing! 💞
Hugs & Sunshine N🎆
+Sunshine Crystal Thank YOU for watching :D ::HUGS::
12:12 what an a.azing resource!!!
Love this video! Great information! 💕
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!! ::HUGS::
omg I love this video ! thanks a lot. so helpful
This looks fabulous! I'm going to come back to this series later. I've got so many new decks to learn at the moment. But I'd really like to learn the Marseilles system xx
+Karen Grace Aung :D It's not going anywhere, I'll keep them all in a Marseille playlist!
...And they'll be easy to find as your playlists are so well organised! xx
Thank you!!!
I think a lot of people go the opposite way, from tarot to playing cards, but it is definitely a different experience to go the other way!
@@TheTruthinStory it really is, especially with the 4s like you said, and the numbers in general just feel a little less important in tarot than the suit where it's a bit the other way around for me with playing cards
Great video! 😃
+thejuliajune Thank you ma'am :D
How's your Marseille study going? Missing your TdM/pips videos.
Nice video !
Thank you!
Thank you so much this video it was so informative!!!
You are very vey welcome :)
Thank you so much!!!! This made so much sence😅 I lovebhow you explained things, you did it again!😜
But.... facinating is just another word for interesting😜😂 jk!
Thank you🥰
Fascinating
Just YES! love it. 😁
And the marseille pips have nothing to do with the rider waite's illustarted pip cards...don't combine them...a card is good or bad placed if the next card suppots it or not....With the marseille is better doing line spreads..:)
24:10 so number 2 hasn't to say much as a stalemate...how it is partnership then?
Think about when 2 swords come together, it's usually a clash (a sword fight) where they are each doing each other-- but when two cups chime together, it's normally because someone is making a toast, so there is a union, a coming together. While in yet another case, two comes about because a cell is divided (we see that in the two paths of the wands) or two can be the addition of another thing which doubles the amount of responsibility (2 of coins, might be an example of going from one child to two, where the addition of just one more then doubles the workload)
Two is created in different ways- by coming together, by splitting, dividing, by addition into the mix.
BTW: the App might not be available on all android devices _ I have the Galaxy note 8 and it's not. :(
Ot just kind of occurred to me that Marseille is much more *divinatory* and the thoth is much more *spirituality* and RWS is sort of a combination.
RWS 3 of swords= creation can be painful
1 + 1 = 3 hahaha Brilliant!
Unfortunately Yoav Ben Dov passed away in 2016....
I know :( that was a loss to the community!
It's not a good feeling, having to rely on the illustrations on the minor arcana.
I have the JJSwiss edition. I love not having the pictures. It is the deck I read for me and sometimes others.
Ah yes I have that one as well!
