    I’m so thankful for this tutorial. I’m a beginning beginner. I know nothing about art but I have a burning desire to learn. So I’m forcing myself to take in as much beginning information as I can. I have WAY more supplies than I need according to you, but I’m secretly glad I do. They’re so pretty. And I bought good quality supplies After watch these three exercises I am going to get some student grade paper and save my good stuff for later. Thank you for the instructions!

    Thank you for posting these. My daughter (6 yo) loves visual arts, and I know very little about them besides really crummy sketches that can impress any toddler, but don't know anyone in our area who does art lessons, so we'll be watching these and learning together. Thank you so much!!

    Oh, THANKYOU at last a real beginners instructional video on how to begin to paint then to begin using waterclours. I never painted at primary school, and i only knew that you add water and paint together....this was about 50 yrs ago. My chldren painted at school and did quite well...i always believed it was too hard to do...plus i was too scared to start because id make a lot of mistakes, didnt know how to fix it and didnt think i could paint because it took a lot of natural talent. Ive loved you videos 1. Amt of water to use, 2. Part 1, 2 and 3 beginning techniques basics watercolour. The comments sbove cover the videos already watched.
    Please ontinue

    The wet on wet does work with acrylics as well. It is a technique I use often, with very similar results as your watercolour example.
    Great tutorial. I will be revisiting some of them.
    Thank you.

    I would love to see you continue this series! I'm an absolute beginner, and this has been more helpful than you can imagine. I've been walking away from my paintings so discouraged. Clearly, I have poor quality paints & brushes....I didn't realize that until these videos. But, Lordy...I've priced out the decent stuff and that's just never going to happen. So, I need to have better techniques! More beginner videos please😁.

      Don’t despair. Sonnet watercolors (full pans) are made by the same company as White Nights in Russia. They’re under $30 for a set of 24 on Amazon.

    The tip right at the end about pre-mixing your colors is super useful. I'm used to painting miniatures with acrylic, where allowing the surface to dry is one of the benefits of mixing your colors as your need them.

    Please do a video on 'not knowing what to paint at first'; lack of confidence; 'your mind is blank slate and empty of ideas' , 'copying is better because you have an idea or what you like/see'.
    I hope this helps, i have slight brain damage due to domestic violence re ex and i find it difficult to know or design something in my head ie sketching a dress design on paper.
    Keep up the good work it is giving me confidence to start.
    Id like one on different types of brushes, the extras use with watercolour eg gouche and paint on tape for branches etc.
    Thankyou so much. Video clear, bright and great examples they arent

    For all of you who are SUPER GREEN to art in general (like I am). A Wash=A semi-transparent layer of colour. Thus a "Flat Wash" is a technique used by artists to cover a large area with colour (usually ink, or paint). Hope this is helpful!

    My question is when you have puddles of water, how do you know when to let an area stay with that color puddle?
    I seem to always want to be smooth a certain area and not let it dry with the most colored area. Thanks

    • @kathleenbaugh5869
      @kathleenbaugh5869 7 років тому

      You can use the corner of a paper towel, dry brush and dip lightly into puddle until you are happy with the color. You can also use a better quality of paper that can handle the water better. I have watched a lot of videos and that seems to be the common problem solver. I hope that helps. I'm a beginner too.

    When you made the wet on wet (#3), was the paper wet first or was it that the you applied the blue paint with a lot of water (making it wet), and then the magenta wet paint?

  • @ivanrappaport585
    @ivanrappaport585 5 років тому

    Thanks for clear and useful information. You start with water for your first wash, but don't mention this for the other examples. The 'dual colour' is often used for a blue sky melting into a pinkish sunset. The blue sky has a gradient from thick to thin, so it seems that the dual colour can be an example of a gradient.

    I have been learning watercolor for 2 months. In a few cases, I have stopped working on a painting part way through. In going back to an area to add another layer of color to parts of it, how do I avoid hard edges on the new area as it transitions to the other, dry part of that area? In the present case, it's the main subject - a donkey in a field.

    Hmmm, so does she pre-moisten the paper before she employs the Dry on Wet technique? It’s not clear...Furthermore, I got more of a hard edge with the dual colors technique. Did I not use enough water for the first color?
