Hi Robin, thank you so much for watching and being good enough to leave such generous feedback. I must admit I did quite like how the last one turned out even though I hadn't expected to be very usable in that light 😊👍
One of the very few welsh peaks that I have climbed....well I say climb, we got to your first composition 😁 Great watch as always mate, especially liked your letterbox crop of the Tryfan layers 👍
There are a number of walls like that, local stone built, with a pedestrian stile which takes a marked footpath over the wall, sometimes with a nearby gate like this one, in the Snowdonia area. One of them I know of, is in Nant Gwyrd, runs along a contour line from Capel Curig to a point behind, above Pant Y Gwyrd, where a 'Miners Track' extension, goes over it by way of a similar stile?
I love a rule breaker. I’m off over to Instagram to find the guy who says “sod leading lines, I want to shoot different. Show me the horizontal wall!” It’s the great thing about photography. Reminds me of a guy I know at Wimbledon got an award winning shot because he couldn’t be arsed with centre court like everyone else. But I do like the leading lines river shot, and thought the triangular stone was a great addition. Well done. Would’ve probably gone without the grad though I reckon. Nice shots, and well presented.
It felt nostalgic watching you at the beginning , and agree love the shot without the damn wall and the F , thinking back I’m possibly guilty 😂 very enjoyable as per usual .. loved the shots David .. excellent episode 👏
You're allowed to get away with it, mate. In much the same way as I bolloxed up pronouncing Cobh the first time I sailed in! Anyway, we need to resurrect our idea of me popping over some time, quick before they lock us all down again! 😊👍

Hello Jeff, thank you so much for watching and being good enough to subscribe. I really hope I'll be able to keep you entertained, but as far as the back catalogue goes I would most certainly avoid anything earlier than about number 60, because the early stuff was truly dreadful! 😂👍
Hello Charles, thank you so much for watching and being good enough to leave such generous feedback. I really appreciate it and I'm delighted that you enjoyed it 😊👍
Glad you mentioned Tryfan, just like the F in OF and 2 Fs like the English OFF. Glad you got the shot down into Cwm Idwal. And totally agree about the wall.
Cheers Iain. Yeah I was hoping for much better light for the Idwal shot, but I'll be back up there in a tent before the year's out and will wait it out if I have to! As for my gentle ribbing of someone who is entirely anonymous, seems not everyone commenting has any sort of a sense of humour! 😊👍
Thought I would catch up with Mr Mountain man before I retire to my bed.... an enjoyable episode as ever preseneted in your very knowledgable way. Nos da
I liked the care taken with the correct pronunciation of names. I certainly can't determine that from the spelling. More of this sort of thing as I am curious. Thank you
You're very welcome. As a native, it's natural for me, of course, and you're quite right, a lot of the spelling is complete gibberish and understandably and unnecessarily complicated! 😊👍
Great to see you back out and about in the hills David! I’ve made a mental note never to mispronounce Tryfan! 😆 Some lovely images, I like the haziness in these, I think it works really well. I think the image of the top of Devil’s Kitchen was my favourite. Sam
I like the slightly lower point from where you are shooting and you can still get the stream in the frame. Tryfan is the one and possibly only iconic view I want to shoot as I have a long history with it and the area with my father being from Bangor and climbing it over he years. The results from your visit, again with the light not being as good as it could have been, were excellent. I did make my first sortie into North Wales last week to our Mobile Home in Glan Conwy, armed with all my gear only to trip, lose my balance and spend the night in Glan Clwyd after having my dislocated shoulder sorted out. To rub salt in the wound, I wrecked my Fuji 18-55mm lens in the process, but it did save the camera !! I shall have to wait a few more weeks before hitting Tryfan but will enjoy your exploits in the meantime.
The “dig” at a certain photographer’s pronunciations had me and my wife laughing. Seemed a bit saltier than we’re used to from you. I see now it was in jest. At the time I thought, “Well, there goes any chance of a collab video now.” 😀 That last shot of the top of (the mountain that shall remain nameless) was beautiful! It and the one just before it were my favorites. As always, love the videos! 🍻
Wow. The first image of Truvan, hope I spelt it right. Stunning David, in fact I'd go as far as saying its probable the best image for me you've taken. Just love the composition and lighting. Great narrative to the vlog as ever. Thank you for sharing.👌
Super vlog Dave. Did laugh with the “Tru-van” lesson, brill. I’m afraid I’m guilty of my Welsh pronunciation in some of my vlogs too🙈 Great set of images👍🏻 Really enjoyed it👌🏻
Cheers Mark. It was pretty poor punchline after a laboured build up, but I thought, why not?! 😂👍Although judging by the high and mighty reactions of some people here you'd think I'd insulted royalty! 😊👍
Very nice Derek, have climbed Tryfan many times, definetly hand,s out the pocket and you never go up the same way twice, quite hairy in higher reaches, but that,s the attraction, bottled out the Adam and Eve leap.
Yeah, the Adam and Eve thing is going kill somebody one of these days. No way I'd contemplate it! Although I do have a Tryfan trip planned for the channel this year 😊👍
Diolch Dafydd. Of course I have no idea who you're talking about, but I'm sure that whoever it is will have a great sense of humour for a gentle ribbing and let me get away with the terrible build up to a poor punchline of there being "no F in Tryfan!" 😂👍 Although there are other commenters here from the taste and decency squad who've got their knickers in a twist about it! 😊👍
Quite enjoyed that one as always Dave. I have done that same hike and took the cliche shot of Ogwen, but not as well composed as yours. I must admit that I am guilty of inserting the "f" in Tryfan, but I hope I get a pass as I am not from around those parts. 😉 The letterbox crop is a cracker. Great to see you out in your happy place again. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers, Jeff
Hello Bo, thanks so much for watching. It's quite a common discussion amongst vloggers whether to show settings. It's a lot of work to set up the graphics in editing and I put all my images on Flickr which shows you all the EXIF data. 😊👍
As soon as I seen pen yr ole wen I jumped on your vlog as I do anyway. And yes that annoys me about Tri fan too. Beaut of a vlog Mr G images weren't too bad either 😃.
As I sit here half asleep at some God earthly hour, getting ready to set off for a mountain hike/photography day, I feel somewhat excited even more after watching this and the opportunities of what lie ahead. Excellent video combining some very detailed b roll of the landscape matched with a good choice of music. I won’t comment on the topic of pronunciation but just to say your delivery was excellent and if anyone gets upset over that then brilliant, please do it again. Sure the said person in question would also see the funny side of it. Lovely shots but that final image of the layers with ‘truck van’ was for me the one that stood out. All good, great job matey 👍👍
Cheers mate! Guessing from the weather that you had a very enjoyable time hiking yesterday, but that the photography was probably quite challenging. Look forward to the full report in due course 😊👍
Have you ever thought about focal zoom blending. Gary McIntyre has an enjoyable video just released. Something I’m considering. Lovely video and images again, thanks for sharing!
Hello Ian, as I have freely admitted both on this channel and in other forums, as far as I'm concerned my photography is very much about creating artwork. And so, I will quite happily use any method I choose to create my images. I'm guessing you're referring to the image with Tryfan as my background? This image would lend itself to that technique as there is a natural mid ground area which can be obfuscated in post to bring 2 perspectives together. Indeed, it is a technique very well suited to this sort of composition. And it is absolutely possible that I will use that location to demonstrate the technique in a future video ! On this occasion, I wanted to make the point about composition from the standpoint of not needing to deploy any advanced post processing techniques, as a lot of my audience find that to be a challenge. The technique is better known as "focal length blending", and a search for that phrase on UA-cam will provide a good selection of very well-made videos which demonstrate it. Many thanks for your very kind feedback, though, I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to make contact. 😊👍
I note that you took a shoot at 85mm with you 70-300mm lens. How would this have compared, quality wise, using your 12-100 pro lens instead? Great video, as usual.
That's such a good question Derek. It almost begs another trip up there with both to make comparison video! If pressed, I'd have to say that one of the reasons the Pro lens is being left at home so much at the moment, is because I'm finding that by being careful I can get images that I'm happy with using much more portable gear. So I think there'd be very little in it. I'm sure the Pro lens would win out, but it would be a close run thing! 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery Thanks Griff, interesting. I’ve recently built up an Olympus mft kit around a M5iii which I’m using more now than my Pentax K-1 system. This is a massive weight saving. You are down to shaving off grams! I started off with a 12-45 f4 pro lens and a 40-150 lens but recently invested in a 12-100 f4 pro lens. However, if Olympus had a 45-150 f4 pro to complement the 12-45, I’d have gone that route. The 2 would likely be slightly lighter than the 12-100, which may, I suspect, be heavier having to contain a lot of lens elements to cover the range as well as the in-lens stabilisation mechanism.
I enjoyed the walk and the pictures and your commentary on them. Looks like you had some company up there and I noticed the A5 roadside car parking looked pretty full. Just one negative comment, personally, I am not keen on the grey halo with white background, it seemed to make the images look faded for me. I thought dark background and sharp edges would set them off better. They are good images though! Thanks for sharing.
Cheers Keith. That's an interesting thought and I'll certainly have a look at it as an option. Although it's fair to say my processing was muted tonally this time as the light was quite flat and I played around with forcing in contrast but it wasn't sitting right with me. So I wonder if the faded look would have still been apparent with different 'mounts'. I'll definitely check it out though 😊👍
This was a very good video about photography. TBPH, I don't care much about gear talk, van talk, running talk, why this or that or the other talk and all the other irrelevant clap trap just to fill the time. Photography video should be about how to get the best from a scene on to a photograph. I enjoyed this one.Thanks.
2:18 the first Snowdonian mountain I ever climbed, on a cold, rainy November afternoon in '84. Must have been well ard. Or daft. Dafydd, our local guide said, in his thick Gwynedd brogue 'it doesn't matter if you look a right tit, as long as you're warm and dry'. Those words have stayed with me, and I've been warm and dry ever since :)
Hello Craig, yes, that is exactly right from a phonetic standpoint! Spot on! 😁 Do you mean the park at Pwllheli? If so, that will put you in easy range of some fabulous locations. 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery yeah i believe thats the one so snowdon is something i have to do aswell as the lighthouses at holyhead, any others places i could try nearer to hafan?
Nice one David. I don't think James really cares what you call it lol . Interested to know more of the route you took up. I presume there is a well worn unofficial path up or is it purely off piste after Bryn Mawr?
James who? No idea who you're talking about! 😂 Anyway, yeah there's sort of a path and their in the process of building it out as they've drops quite a few bags of rocks ready for us volunteers to break our backs with! But for the most part it's pretty indistinct, especially the scrambling section about 2/3 of the way up 😊👍
Excellent again Dave, thanks very much. At last I can stop calling Tryfan 'that great big pointy thing'. Suggest from now on, each video contains a lesson on Welsh pronunciation..... repeat after me.....
Hi yeah it's sort of hidden on mobile. There's a little down arrow under bottom right of the video to the right hand end of the 'row' where the video title appears. If you click on that it shows the video notes and the link is there. Really hope this is helpful, and thanks a lot for watching! 😊👍
Cheers John, you're quite right, this area does have hints of the Highlands, but to be fair, there's far far more wild and rugged areas in Scotland - I wouldn't know where to start! So in my little patch it's much easier to get to know all the good spots 😊👍
Hi Colin, I must say since I acquired it it has proved to be considerably be more useful than I'd originally anticipated. I gave my first impressions, and outlined my original use case for it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/tjUgWFF5Dpo/v-deo.html which, if you haven't seen you might find useful. However, since then I have used it for bird photography, and far more frequently than I had expected to. In every case I have found it to produce excellent results any situations where it perform badly were entirely down to how badly I performed! So I can firmly recommend it from the standpoint of a lens which will not break the budget, but by dint of it not being considered "pro glass" is compact and lightweight. And yet, without some rather intensive pixel peeping, is utterly indistinguishable from far more expensive and heavyweight options. 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery thank you for a very interesting reply, i have been using canon equipment but i am finding it heavy on long walks in the hills so i purchased an olympus om d e10 mk 3 and a couple of cheap lenses to try, now the canon stays at home and the olympus is used on walks,so i am now looking at an olympus 5 mark 3 and a longer zoom than the 40-150 either the oly 75-300 mk 2 or the panasonic 100-300mm mk 2 for landscape and wildlife i enjoy your videos

As a Welsh language speaker I appreciate people trying to speak it. Who is the target of your sneering next time? Stammerers or those with a lisp?
I totally agree with you. It's not the first time I've seen him take a swipe at another creator. The last time, I stopped watching his videos. This time, I'm unsubscribing, as he just comes across as a nasty little man.
@@desgardner7169 if that is the case Des then listen to him pronounce Tryfan correctly. You would not have to listen to him criticise another person's way of saying it or is that the best way for you personally to learn names? One of them I know of, is in Nant Gwyrd, runs along a contour line from Capel Curig to a point behind, above Pant Y Gwyrd, where a 'Miners Track' extension, goes over it by way of a similar stile?
Yes Duncan, you're quite right, they're very common around here. And make nice rustic landmarks in keeping with the area. 😊👍
I love a rule breaker.
I’m off over to Instagram to find the guy who says “sod leading lines, I want to shoot different. Show me the horizontal wall!”
It’s the great thing about photography.
Cheers Chris, too lazy to muck about blending in post 😂 and fair comment about the rules. BTW big fan of your channel 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery ah no way, thank you sir.
Look forward to getting back to Try-van soon
It felt nostalgic watching you at the beginning , and agree love the shot without the damn wall and the F , thinking back I’m possibly guilty 😂 very enjoyable as per usual .. loved the shots David .. excellent episode 👏
You're allowed to get away with it, mate. In much the same way as I bolloxed up pronouncing Cobh the first time I sailed in! Anyway, we need to resurrect our idea of me popping over some time, quick before they lock us all down again! 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery haha .. indeed .. get your chops around this one .. Togher :-)
No opens here yet I’m afraid .. you would need to mandatory hotel quarantine for 14 days before even stepping outside the door at the mo 🤯🤯
Great videos, only just found your channel & subscribed so have a few to catch up on.....
Hello Jeff, thank you so much for watching and being good enough to subscribe. I really hope I'll be able to keep you entertained, but as far as the back catalogue goes I would most certainly avoid anything earlier than about number 60, because the early stuff was truly dreadful! 😂👍
great vlog dave - thanks
Hello Charles, thank you so much for watching and being good enough to leave such generous feedback. I really appreciate it and I'm delighted that you enjoyed it 😊👍
Very nice vlog. Please go on this way.
I'll always do my best to keep my viewers entertained! 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery Wild camp, the only way, beats walking up in the dark.
Loved the "panoramic" of Tryfan. I did the "Carnedd horseshoe" back in '83 and saw nothing but mist. Had no idea it was such a good vantage point.
Cheers Alan. Sounds like you need to revisit it! 😊👍
Love your comment ... "There's no F in Tryfan" ... oh yes there is, it's there on the left as you drive notrth ... lol 😎
Hahaha well-spotted. It was a very laborious build up to a pretty weak punchline, I have to admit! 😂👍
Thought I would catch up with Mr Mountain man before I retire to my bed.... an enjoyable episode as ever preseneted in your very knowledgable way. Nos da
Cheers Butt! 😊👍
Great work as usual Dave God Bless Alan from Brum
Many thanks Alan, really appreciate you tuning in. So glad you enjoyed it 😊👍
I liked the care taken with the correct pronunciation of names.
Sam
Many thanks Sam. Hope your re-planning last year's visit for some time this year? 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery yes, definitely! I think we might give it a bit more time, but I’ll let you know when we’re heading over! 👍
Oh so sorry to hear about your accident. really hope you be back out and about before too long. Can you make an insurance claim for the lens?
The “dig” at a certain photographer’s pronunciations had me and my wife laughing. Seemed a bit saltier than we’re used to from you. I see now it was in jest. At the time I thought, “Well, there goes any chance of a collab video now.” 😀
That last shot of the top of (the mountain that shall remain nameless) was beautiful! It and the one just before it were my favorites.
As always, love the videos! 🍻
Hahaha yes, he had asked me about collaboration, and I had turned him down! 😂👍
Wow. The first image of Truvan, hope I spelt it right. Stunning David, in fact I'd go as far as saying its probable the best image for me you've taken. Just love the composition and lighting.
Great narrative to the vlog as ever.
Thank you for sharing.👌
Your spelling is spot on mate, from a phonetic perspective! So that'll do just fine. And thanks a lot for tuning in, much appreciated 😊👍
Although I do have a Tryfan trip planned for the channel this year 😊👍
Wonderful vistas as usual. Also diolch for the pronunciation of Tryfan. Detail: My preference for running streams is towards me rather than away.
Yes Huw, running water is definitely better that way, as rule. Totally agree with you there 😊👍
Great Content as always 👌. Did have a Laugh about the Tryfan pronunciation we all know who that is and it's been stressing me out for weeks 😂😂
Loved the detailed explanation of the Tri-fan shot ; )) and the pointy rock! Will you get to 8k subs for the next one? Fingers crossed.
Cheers mate. Doesn't look like it, because the growth rate in subs is glacially slow at the moment! 😂👍
Just putting a video together photographing Tryfan just hope I pronounce it correctly 🤞. Fantastic video as always 👍
Hahahaha go for it, anyway if you mangle it I won't care because I always enjoy your photography!! 😂👍
Now that makes me happy, it’s out tomorrow at 5 so let me know what you think 👍
Quite enjoyed that one as always Dave. I have done that same hike and took the cliche shot of Ogwen, but not as well composed as yours. I must admit that I am guilty of inserting the "f" in Tryfan, but I hope I get a pass as I am not from around those parts. 😉 The letterbox crop is a cracker. Great to see you out in your happy place again. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers, Jeff
Hahahaha I'll let you off then. 😂👍
Lovely to watch. How would you feel about showing the camera settings next to the final images for learners?
Hello Bo, thanks so much for watching. It's quite a common discussion amongst vloggers whether to show settings. It's a lot of work to set up the graphics in editing and I put all my images on Flickr which shows you all the EXIF data. 😊👍
excellent matey
Many thanks 😊👍
Thanks for the pronunciation 😊👍
My pleasure 😊
As soon as I seen pen yr ole wen I jumped on your vlog as I do anyway. And yes that annoys me about Tri fan too. Beaut of a vlog Mr G images weren't too bad either 😃.
Cheers, it's one of my favourites, but tough climbing and needed better light. Probably take a tent up there before the year's out! 😊👍
@@DGriffGallery now your talking
@@DGriffGallery Spot on. Great for hiking which will do for me... full report to follow
@@DGriffGallery Thanks - they are still superb images.
Wish there was a laugh button on here!!! PMSL 🤣 🤣 🤣 #tryfan
Seem to have caused one or two correspondents to get their knickers in a twist, though! 😂👍
Many thanks for watching, and being good enough to take the time to leave such generous feedback 😊👍
Hahaha dependable wise mountain advice! 😊👍
i think im going to have to go to truvan (is that right ;) im going to hafan y mor for a week beginning of may and no idea where to visit yet :)
Hahaha cheers Dave - now, repeat after me: Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogery .... etc 😂👍
There is no 'link below' in your description for the skillshare offer and only 640 views... I wanted to try it! I'm watching on my phone. Is that why?
Hi yeah it's sort of hidden on mobile. There's a little down arrow under bottom right of the video to the right hand end of the 'row' where the video title appears. If you click on that it shows the video notes and the link is there. Really hope this is helpful, and thanks a lot for watching! 😊👍
Wonderful video David, thanks for sharing, looks so much like Glencoe.... I miss the UK so much for scenes like this.Beautiful images.
Cheers John, you're quite right, this area does have hints of the Highlands, but to be fair, there's far far more wild and rugged areas in Scotland - I wouldn't know where to start! So in my little patch it's much easier to get to know all the good spots 😊👍
hi what do you think of the 75 -300mm lens !
@@DGriffGallery thank you for a very interesting reply, i have been using canon equipment but i am finding it heavy
on long walks in the hills so i purchased an olympus om d e10 mk 3 and a couple of cheap lenses to try, now the canon stays at home and the olympus is used on walks,so i am now looking at an olympus 5 mark 3 and a longer zoom than the 40-150 either the oly 75-300 mk 2 or the panasonic 100-300mm mk 2 for landscape and wildlife i

I have no idea why you have decided to criticise people's attempts at using the Welsh language. Very poor. I hope the vlogger in question doesn't criticise the quality of this vlog. As a Welsh language speaker I appreciate people trying to speak it. Who is the target of your sneering next time? Stammerers or those with a lisp?
I appreciate knowing the correct pronunciations as it's all a mystery to me, and some of my ancestors came from Wales. You may be over reacting...
Its very important to get names right! instead of spending thousands of pounds on a camera to take picture in a place that does not exist!
