I remember watching this game 23 years ago, just like it was yesterday. Baltimore didn’t have professional football for 13 years before the Ravens played their inaugural season. It was a special time to live in Baltimore and be a sports fan.
I'm so glad you uploaded this as this is the closest we have right now to the extended version of the 2001-02 NFL on CBS theme which premiered for this Super Bowl. It's the best NFL theme in my opinion as it had a great mix of the previous NFL on CBS themes and the NHL on ABC theme from the early 2000s.
It to me sounds like a cross between Frankie Vinci's "NFL on CBS" theme that debuted as Super Bowl 26 (at the end of the 1991 season) with ABC's NHL theme when they had the package in the early 2000s.
I remember during a 2012 Chargers preseason game on KCBS-TV, they played the 2001-02 NFL on CBS theme going into break and during the Halftime report (but they played Posthumus Zone as the game ended).
Greg Gumbel was way better than Jim Nantz to me. CBS has always done the Super Bowl best to me, and this theme was absolutely amazing. Might be the best theme in NFL history, this was the extended version being played too.
One thing I realized is that the Baltimore Colts and New York Giants met in the 1958 title game, otherwise known as the Greatest Game Ever Played, and 1959 title game. This Super Bowl pitted the Giants and Ravens, Baltimore's recent team.
No one knew at the time this would be the last time individual players would be introduced in a Super Bowl. The New England Patriots came out as a team the next year and started a new tradition in which the whole team came out instead of individuals after the St. Louis Rams’ offensive starters were introduced individually.
Little did one of those Giants fans in that stadium that night know that his life would spared 8 months later when he attended the Giants season opener in Denver and would not be going to work in one of the towers the next day.
No. I'm taking about that dude who was in Denver for the Monday night opener and gave the "I'm alive because I'm a Giants fan" speech a few days after 9/11.
As a Giant fan me and my boys all giants fans we was pumped up especially after we spanked the vikings right up until after peter boulware name was called . The moment we saw ray lewis do that dance we all sat and watched him do that dance and there was a silence in the room we all turnt and looked at each other and we all had the same thought yo we losing this game. Then the onlslaught began . We were only down 17-0 nothing and we like damn if we can score and make it a ten point game we gotta a chance then Dixon ran that ball back my supervisor called me like we back in the game and then bam they ran that thang right back i hung up the phone and my boy turned the tv off we all laughed and went and played ball around the corner we all was like the hell with this its over we aint coming back from that . That run back was like a pimp slap from a whore giving her pimp alot of lip like what you say bih 😂😂😂. Bad and funny memories of that game
According to America's Game ep. with the 2000 Ravens, he snuck out of the team hotel and called the cop. Mainly just to get the pre-game nervousness out!
Why can't the NFL go back to introducing the players individually for the Super Bowl? Ever since the New England Patriots elected to be introduced as a single unit the following year, the NFL decided to make it a permanent fixture. Had that been the case all along, then we wouldn't have gotten to see Ray Lewis do the "squirrel dance". 😆
