If the Oilers play like they can play, they can beat anyone including the eastern teams. Why? Because they have the two best players in the world in Draisaitl and McDavid. But they have to play well for 60 minutes, as if they don't and the Rangers, Panthers or Stars bring their game then Oilers will lose. It's as simple as that. Oilers are a lot deeper than most non-Oiler fans realize, and Skinner is a lot better of a Goalie that most non-Oiler fans think too.
It changes nothing for Edmonton. They have to be consistent. It changes everything for Dallas handling the pressure of the Oilers attack. Tanev is an ELITE Defensive Defenceman and a huge loss for the Stars.

I mean he's been held to a measly 2 goals and 5 assists in 4 games. There was one game he was held to no points, but the other 3 were multi-point games.
The stars get praised for how many shots they block a game, which is absolutely part of a great defence. However more shots blocked means more damage to your team that all adds up every game of every round. There will be attrition to your roster if your team is blocking 30 shots a game, so you better have a deep enough bench to compensate. Unfortunately for the stars they really have no depth on the defensive end of the bench and Tanev being out for a couple games could cost them the series.
The stars arent deep in defense. The Oilers were exploiting that all series. Suter and Petrovic are targeted. Oilers have played against an injured Tanev in Calgary and it wasnt good for
Apparently it is okay to check a defencemen in the numbers if you have the 7th man on the ice. Dallas gets to play playoff hockey while the Oilers have to play preseason level of officiating.
The Oilers definitely got away with a few that would have been called in October. But it would definitely be better to have everything called consistently all season.
Tanev is a huge loss but Dallas was already a top team without him for most of the season. So losing him for a few games shouldn't mean Dallas is at a huge disadvantage.

All this talk about the Stars being this big powerhouse of a team and I just don’t see it. Ot looks normal and beatable Skinner matches up well with him. Dallas played a good game 2 I’ll give them that but game 3 the Oilers lost that themselves. If the Oilers stay focused they will win this series.
There's the narrative about Dallas "depth " then there's the reality. I don't care how good your lineup is, losing one of your best d-man is huge. He'll probably play and play good, he's a grinder/warrior. The oilers are probably assuming he'll be in the lineup.
The Oilers time is Now. McDavid is starting to get in the advanced years of his career. The opportunity is there for them to win, Now. Take advantage of it. The opportunity is there. The Oilers are capable.

while i picked DAL to win the series , i'm not going to use tanev as an excuse in the event EDM were to wipe out DAL. wouldn't want any EDM guys getting hurt intentionally either. unfortunately in the p-off's, guys get hurt and you gotta go with what you got. EDM played great after the first 6-7 minutes , for the entire game. they def have some confidence and hopes that they can compete well. buckle up folks, we got a serious steel-cage match coming ahead, for a minimum of friday and sunday night.
