Also to clear this up, for a game to qualify, Both punters had to have good games, not just one. I'm sure I'll still get flooded with comments of insane individual performances and that video is coming too! But it's not the same as this one.
The title is a bit misleading to me. I think a better title would include the term punting duels, a term which should be regularly used for exciting games were we get to watch the real athletes play
I don't even watch football anymore, lost interest. Its been probably 10 years since I'd turn on the occasional game on the weekend. But this stuff... this is fun.
@@The787Dreamlinerit truly is extremely fucking hard. You’re just kicking a weirdly shaped ball with weirdly heaped human feet and trying to not only place it in a particular spot, but also make it difficult to catch and easy to cover. At least with field goals the rotation of the ball is parallel to its path of trajectory. While kicking field goals is not easy, it is pretty simple. You hit it exactly the same way every single time and there are only a few points of motion Punting is absolutely wack, you field the snap, drop the ball in space and then just kick it as hard as possible and try and land it where you are supposed to.
The Colquitt family are good people, I am a former college punter and reached out to a Colquitt (I forget which brother it was) in college for tips and guidance when he also was in college and this guy gave me an hour to help the best he could. Punters and kickers, we got each others backs!
@stevekuzenski1651 lots of these younger creators say names wrong because they didn't grow up hearing them said. They need to actually watch the clips instead of compiling them unseen and they'd hear the announcers pronounce the correctly.
If you are interested... Colquit's firt couple of games he played he caused a ton of muffs because of being left footed and having the ball spin different into returners
Dustin Colquitt could have been the team MVP for Kansas City in several different seasons, and I'm really not exaggerating that much. Those were *lean* times to be a Chiefs fan...
Super Bowl LVIII was an underrated punting duel. The 49ers' Mitch Wishnowsky and the Chiefs' Tommy Townsend each punted 5 times for 254 net yards (50.8 avg). What's even more surprising is that not only did neither of those guys go to Iowa, they didn't even play in the Big 10 at all
I played DT, C, and 2nd string punter. My favorite play although counted as a huge loss was when the starting punter was in the locker room at a punt point, put me in and the long snapper hit it above my head, fumbled, jumped on it, TOD. Most thrill I ever had on the field tho, way more than my sacks or TFL
Hey Isaac, longtime viewer here. Quick question, why are punts measured from the line of scrimmage, but kicks are measured from where the kick happens? That NY Giant kicked it from the 1, and it went in the opposite end zone, was that not a 99 yard kick, net of 79?
The idea of a punt isn't about pure distance necessarily but how far back the other team is pushed back from the LOS than they otherwise would have under a turnover on downs. On kicking, it is about pure distance because that's physically how far the kicker has to kick it and also on a missed FG, the other team gets the ball back where it was kicked not where the LOS originally was on the missed kick.

You would think you'd know how to say Scifres name. It's pronounced cy-furs. Mispronouncing names is way too common in sports videos. If your job is to make youtube videos make sure name pronunciation is right because it shows laziness and lack of caring. Especially in baseball where every player will play no matter how bad because they'll have at bats, it's not hard to look up the pronunciation on pro sports reference or find a clip with an announcer saying their name.
I believe the NFL would be 1000000 times better if they got rid of kickers... 4th down only choice are go for it or punt... Kickers ain't even football players... They are what happens when the actual football players fail to do their jobs
Good job on selecting Broncos/Giants from Week 1, 2001 at the top spot. How good were these two on the first ever game at the New Mile ? They literally changed America and created an entirely new era of American history. I was there that Monday night, September 10, 2001. 12 hours later, 20 terrorists got together and said, "We have to stop these infidel American punters from launching more of these ICBMs into the stratosphere. Call Bin Laden and tell him Manhatten must pay for this! I'm going to push my sexiest goat through the fence one more time. Tomorrow, we dine with 76 virgins."
