  • This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the drive motor on Maytag dryers. The most common reasons for replacing the drive motor are when the dryer makes a humming noise, stops turning during a cycle, trips the breaker, won’t start, or won’t turn at all, and more commonly-failing components are not at fault.

i like how he removes and installs the Motor holding clamps those are so hard sometimes to install if you just push them on... he hits the tool hard and it pops in... love it...

Repair Clinic - can you post how to wire the new motors? The old motor is color coded, the new one has numbers.

when getting the motor clamps off, I tried screwdrivering and beating for days, however, I was very successful after only a few minutes with a vice grip!!!!!!!!! Just clamp on and pull off. No pain, no strain.

It's 7 years later and yes, this is the best way to take the clamps off.

Repair Clinic - can you post how to wire the new motors? It is numbered instead of color coded. No instructions came with the motor, is there a schematic somewhere?

I'm having the same wiring issue. How did you figure it out or where did you find an appropriate wiring manual?

The motor drives in these dryers have changed the schematic of the starter switch of the motor. You still need to plug in the Blue wire as well towards the very left. I know the directions are quite sketchy about where to hook up the blue wire but it plugs directly to the starter switch as there is no tab up on the motor. I should have taken a picture of how I hooked the wires up but I've had no problems with the dryer since.

I know it's been 10 years since you posted this, but I'm trying to wire up the new motor on my dryer and your reply seems relevant. Changing over the wires to the new style switch w/o directions. I have one with touch screen type circuit boards on the front, a se1000. Your post gave me encouragement if not the picture. Thanks

I just bought this motor from Repair Clinic and the switch on the new motor looks nothing like the one on the replacement motor in the video. My quandary is that I have a white wire in the place of the grey one in the video and its unclear where to attach it to the new switch. My scenario does not fit with the supplied wiring instructions. Help Repair Clinic.

I have a 5KH26JJ064S that a got from a craigslist post from the side of
the road with metal and this was in it. Anyway I don't care for AC
motors much but I always have a hard time knowing how to wire them up. I
used my DC bench power supple and put the negative to black and the red
to the orange/blue and the motor resisted to turn so im thinking it
works but I am hesitant to hook it up to AC since AC is always more
    complicated (and dangerous). There is a switch with 1-9. 1, 3, 5 ,6, 7, 8
have tabs and blue is on the 8. Orange is on the 7 and black is on the
    6. How do I wire AC correctly. I think this motor is only AC as I do not
see any commutator. Please respond thanks

YOU FORGOT ONE IMPORTANT DETAIL IN YOUR VIDEO --- the Whirlpool so called "direct replacement motor" for the DG210 is not a direct replacement --- the electrical block on the motor has about 8 or 9 terminals and the wiring harness has to be modified (altered) --- wiring diagram is not included and nothing is color coded --- I guess the educated idiots and pencil necks at the corporate office didn't think that info was pertinent? --- I'm diy but I can guarantee you that an experienced repair technician wouldn't have a clue which spade lugs had to be replaced and where they plug in.
