Really nice explanation Eru, about Pakeha Nzers place and belonging here in Aotearoa. Te Tiriti tautokos that belonging.
This universal pov or democratic stick waving by Seymour is a ruse specifically used by him to create a new narrative of division which fans the flames of discontent for those who err on the side of racism or disenfranchised. The reality is Te Tiriti was not a democratic process. It was an agreement between the representatives of two peoples. Te Tiriti is unique in that it was created not as a resulting document of war but of peace. Personally I feel that the wrong word was used when creating this agreement - rather than a Treaty it is more a Kawenata a Covenant between people's.
Ceding our Sovereignty is another created narrative by the government - a gas lighting. Keeping in mind, the assignees of Te Tiriti and the people they represented and the world they lived in. No Rangatira would give up their Sovereignty because that concept contradicts Tikanga - the laws the rangatira abided by at this time.
