i love tearing them down to a bare frame. makes for a much better end result when your done. as i like to say, "its not a rebuild...its a resurrection!"
Good video as always. I have always found your videos interesting. Now your working on a Jeep, that’s even better. The music instead of grinder noise is much appreciated.
Thanks you for the kind words Steve! 😁👍 I greatly appreciate that. Kind viewers like you are the reason I even work on this stuff in the first place. I hope all is well with you and take care 🔧 Hope to talk to you next time
I think the reason that people don't like music in videos is most channels use really obnoxious music. Your music was really good and fit the tone of the video so it did not take away from the video at all. As always, great job.
Good video again my friend the frame looks pretty rough but when you get done with it it will look Real good Keep up the hard work and I appreciate them good words on the last comment I always appreciate seeing comments from you to you got a good good heart Can’t wait for more videos be safe
Thanks for the kind words Glenn! 😁👍 Always means a lot to me my friend! Oh yeah, the frame is *rough* but still fixable. Be safe and I'll talk to you later 🔧
Looks like you have a good start on a Jeep that has a long way to go. I like the approach of dealing with all of the frame issues. Stripping off the stack of patches and then plating it with 1/4" steel is a sound plan in my opinion. Should be a great series to follow!
Thanks for the kind words Tim 😁👍 Yeah, it's got a looong way to go. Just glad it's not as rough as others I've seen. Take care and happy wrenching on your projects! 🙂🔧
Great video, Zane! Enjoyed this very much. I don't know much about the old jeep axle there but it looked ok to me LOL!! Take care of yourself. Peace and love my friend!!
Hey, hanks Brian! 😁👍 Yeah, I'm not 100% sure what's wrong with it either. At least I can move on with the build and figure it out later. Peace and love your way my friend! Take care 🙂🔧
A little hard to see, but at around 5:25, it looks like the left side spider gear (as seen on the screen) is stationary, and the right side one is turning at twice the speed. The stationary one is likely connected, the moving one is your problem area. The joints are a common problem area, but usually you get clunking along with a bad joint. Could be a broken axle, or a joint problem caused them to remove the axle. The drive hubs are pretty durable, most likely they aren't the problem. Some exploratory surgery is needed!
Thanks for the view and suggestion James! 😀👍 I really appreciate that. I will probably take another look soon to see what's going on. Stay safe and happy wrenching on your projects. 🔧🔩
I believe on that front axle that they’ve taken the pucks Out where most vehicles have lockers they should have pucks which keep it engaged full-time keep up the good contact
What you have on there are Warn summer hubs. A factory flange has spline and would transfer the axles torque to the wheel. These have no spline in them and basically allow the front axle to spin freely. This was to give better fuel economy and less wear on the front end. You should either get stock flanges or a set of locking hubs. Or just leave it, though you won't have 4x4.
Thanks for the view and kind comment. I had another viewer suggest the "summer hubs." I will have to look into that. Take care Quentin. Have a great evening 🔧🔩
Hey Zane, I really enjoyed this video! I think it was the perfect balance of getting work done and talking. I may be in the minority, but I really enjoy the timelapses with music. I also think the codes are an interesting idea. You keep posting jeep videos and I'll keep watching them! Thanks!
Thank you for the kind words John! 🙂👍 I always appreciate and use the input from viewers like you to influence the editing and way the videos are filmed. I'm glad you enjoy how the process is done my friend. Take care 😁
some nice progress, front end might be a broken axle shaft or a broken joint or something like that probably reasonably repairable. i literally laughed out loud when you pulled the screw driver with "oil" on it out of the rear diff. that "oil" has most defiantly passed the expiration date...lol
LOL 😂 Oh yeah Ezra, it's waay past the expiration date! I'm hoping to find out what's wrong with the axle soon. I may pull it apart before winter. If not, it luckily still rolls so I can figure it out later on in the build. I appreciate you stopping by my friend. Stay safe on the road and take care 🙂👍
Enjoyed as always. There are not many good used front frame sections out there because they were not very stoutly built; age and abuse has not been kind to them. Fabricating your own heavy duty replacements is a much better idea. While at it, boxing the frame section where the factory steering box was is a good idea too because its a common problem area as well.
Very true Mark! 🙂👍 Yeah, I'm gunna plate that steering box location on the frame. These frames do seem pretty thin. Thanks for swinging by my friend. Take care and be safe 🔧
Thank you *Very much* for the suggestion! 😁 I mean really! I contacted them and I believe they are going to sponsor parts for another video! Can't thank you enough my friend! 🔧
Quick release shocks! New favorite for off roaders! Just like quick release sway bars! haha great video brother! I watch Low Buck Garage too, hes got some interesting projects!
LOL good one Alex! 😂 Yeah, that way you get more flex! For sure, James has a bunch of cool projects on his channel. I'm envious of those half tracks lol. I hope you're doing well my friend. Take care and talk to you later 🙂👍
I wonder if the hubs have a ratcheting mechanism where they only engage when the differential is spinning the axles at a higher rpm? Forward progress! Nice work Zane! 👍😁
Hey Andy!! 😁 I thought the same thing at first but I believe the axle splines are stripped. A few kind Jeep people have confirmed this 😣 But we'll see. Thanks for stopping by my friend!
Great video, farmer trick to put grease in an axle because it leaks. Appreciate you taking us along for the ride. I love the content man. Stay safe and I'm going to go get outside and work on something.
Splines gone on one of the front axle shafts? Or one of the hubs? Stripped hub would be an easy fix. That heavier oil/ grease in the rear might have been to quiet something down. You may have more trouble back there. Great progress Zane!
Yeah, I think both axles may be worn out! 😣 Hopefully not, But we'll see. I appreciate you stopping by Jason! 🙂👍 Hopefully things aren't as hectic for you so you have some time to yourself. Miss seeing uploads my friend. I hope all is well. Keep in touch 🔧
Great video ! I would guess a hub is stripped out or maybe broken axle ! I would say they put grease in the rear because they couldn't keep oil in it or to dampen some noise !
Yeah, That seems likely they were trying to keep it from leaking! 😣 Not really looking forward to tearing it apart lol! Thanks for the view and kind words Chris! 🙂👍
MAN that front frame rail has seen better days. The rest is looking good though, I don't know much about those Jeeps but they sure are cool. PS Cool idea with the codes!
Thanks for the kind words Bill 🙂👍 I just got caught back up on your videos as well. Always enjoy them but got behind doing editing on these. Hope you and Debbie are doing well. Take care and be safe 🔧
Great video Zane. Working on Old Vehicles is a lot like being an archaeologist. You remove stuff one layer at a time to reveal what they had to fix or the parts they had access to. I have a set of axles here if you're interested in them shoot me a message. As far as the music goes I think it's a good touch. Good luck stay safe and look forward to your next video.
Thank you for the kind words Chris! 😁👍 I will definitely keep you in mind for the axles. I hope I can fix these but only time will tell. Really appreciate it 🙂 I hands-down have the best subscribers on here. Take care and I'll talk at ya later🔧🔩
At this point Zane with all the nails to hold shocks on and frame patch jobs it wouldn’t surprise me if the previous owners actually used brownie mix in the differential🤣! Bit by bit man it’s coming together. Sure is going to be a fun Jeep when you’re through with it😀👍
LOL!!! 😂🤣 You've got a great point there Cody! Now that you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised either! 😂 This thing is a "soup-sandwitch" for sure! It needs more work than I'm sure it's worth! Thanks for stopping by my friend 🙂👍
Hey Zane..Before Lock Out Hubs were invented for the Front Axle they had what we called Flanges…We had splined ones that we put on when we were going to use 4WD and non-splined (Smooth) ones for everyday driving. Looks like grease in the rear diff. Any chance the hubs have something hidden or mechanical to lock the front diff? Neat idea for the codes, it went by and had to back up and pause to see what it was. 😄 Keep the videos coming!

I hope you get off lucky with those differentials! Hunting for parts is a killer. At least those jeeps have good support though. As for the music over the fast shots, I don't mind that at all. Probably broken axle shafts in the front. With the front axle being closed knuckle, it's probably a rezepa (ball & socket) style axle shafts.
Thanks for the view Wesley! 😁👍 Yeah, I'm hoping it's still salvageable 🤞
