I read that since Annie was very pregnant when this video was made, she didn't want to be the sole focus of it so she didn't have to put in as much work, so they decided to get a bunch of people to impersonate her different looks. Many of those who auditioned were drag queens. She was laughing so hard she had to duck under the seats in the theater so as not to offend the performers.
It was a nationwide competition - I forget the magazine or programme through which it was run - the challenge was to audition as an Annie Lennox look-alike.
I LOVE that she included a performer in her Freddie Mercury Tribute dress and make up. I think more than any other performer at that concert, she paid homage to Freddie’s love of theatricality. As far as the lyrics I see it as a person feeling trapped the bird in the sky is free, she needs to let go of what is holding her back, she is afraid and the big city doesn't make it easier, she needs to lay her burden down and free herself, she needs the courage "We reap what we so" in this case she is doing it to herself. Falling out of the nest, maybe fired, and now is the time to see if she can fly free like the bird in the sky.
I'd love to see you react to Cold from Diva. It's one of Annie's favourites and the lyrics are amazing. The other Annie's in this video were partly there because she was heavily pregnant with her second Daughter and was trying not to overdo things.

I found a wonderful interview with MSNBC that Annie had not too long ago. I highly recommend it to everyone that discovered Annie Lennox though these wonderful reaction videos that Anton does such an in depth job on his reaction videos which must take a lot of time. We appreciate it ARC. It will be fascinating for all the newer Annie fans and the ones like myself that are so long in the tooth I remember "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)" hit the radios in the US and that became a last quarter anthem for those of us in Middle School following right into Summer break. I have caught it on the radio at least once every year since 1984. Their other things might not have the long-term airplay of Sweet Dreams but all of their work was worthy of the same rotation on the radio. Thank Goodness they are finally being inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame; I think Annie will become the second woman inducted into the RRHOF twice, folowing in the footprints of the original Diva that needed time away from her band, Fleetwood Mac which was inducted many moons ago, their lead sorceress, Stevie Nicks was inducted as the first woman to be inducted twice into the Hall of Fame, but I cannot imagine them leaving her solo work as non-hall worthy, the lyrical twists that went into her songs was phenomenal solo career. It's Alright to ke is one of her best songs (with Dave) and also one of her most underappreciated. The video is very minimalist and very late 80s but her voice is simply amazing. Even if you don't review it on the channel, I suggest you watch it.
The Eurythmics released their final album in the 90s called “Peace”. “Feels Like I’m 17 Again,” is another nostalgic song from Annie. The best from that album IMO x
Also in the interview she explained the Little Bird video, I assume she was nursing her first born, LoLa; and was about to drop Sia, so she said the video was done in her home so she didn't want to go very far from home and she thought all the characters just made the video so much fun, closing with I think "Little Bird"being her favorite video. i'm sure i will be repeating things others have already written, but wanted to add my take as a fan of her from day one. she was very much pregnant when this video was made. the director and her worked together on this to keep her work to a minimum. the decision was to bring in impersonators to do most of the work, and place her in a black outfit to try to hide her stomach. while auditioning performers, they didn't know she was there watching. unfortunately, she was having such a good time that she would almost give herself away and need to hide from view. many of those auditioning were drag kings and queens. the characters of her that appear in this video are from the videos for the songs "sweet dreams", "there must be an angel", "thorn in my side", "beethoven", "i need a man", "why", "walking on broken glass", & the freddie mercury tribute.
