Hello David, love the lessons, that goes without saying. I just wanted to say that I find it really cool that you tweak your background to go with the theme of the lesson. Thank you for the effort you put into everything. I've been playing for over 30 years and there is so much information here. Thank you again!
Thanks for sharing! I’ve been using this technique for years to cycle through the chords of each key. It definitely helps familiarize yourself with the fretboard!
Great lesson, Dave. I've used this a little bit, but your sequencing ideas are definitely newer interesting approaches for me, going to work on that this week. Keep rockin' it, man!
PG is such a great accessible and fun teacher of so many rock, techniques and ideas ,never boring ,and always enjoys himself ,too, the octave ideas [re,arpeggios] is good ,too,to realise hes inspired some top players ,like JP too, says a lot about his approach, good one Dave ,Paul,is so inventive and no eltist attitude either ,just makes it enjoyable, you almost forget youre being taught such good info.
David when you said Harmonic Minor I immediately thought Uli Roth it would be so cool if you did something on him he's definitely in my top 10. Not that I play at all like him mind you. His solos are so well composed so many little melodies.
How good are you?Your lessons are great and they've helped me a lot.Are there any videos of you playing in a band thing?I have many magazines with you in them but haven't seen you actually play.I'm interested in checking them out if they're out there
He did a string skipping arpeggio vid a while back that goes into more detail about using this shape. I'd have a watch at that one. If not, go check out some of Gilberts early vids. He illustrates his outside picking technique he uses for this sort of thing. Keep in mind a technique does not always translate so well to another persons body. I have much shorter fingers, so my technique for this is closer to Marty Friedmans, sort of. Anyone struggling with this for either or both hands, I suggest trying this one first by eliminating the notes on the D string, just to get that skip under your fingers. Then add the lowest root note back in after your fingers have the skip memorized.
@@aylbdrmadison1051 I watched all of Dave’s videos (I’m a subscriber for more than one year, and a Patreon too, so I get the transcriptions), and I noticed he very rarely explains his right hand pattern. I don’t need full details, just need to know whether he goes away from standard alternate picking (starting with an upstroke, using economy picking, that sort of things). That would be a great addition to an already excellent lesson.
Yeah he really changed his style a lot in recent years but still he plays that style extremely well and I like his newer music. He still does some crazy alternate picking and shredding. I saw a video where he basically said he felt like he missed out on being able to play blues and decided to dedicate himself to learning that style. Honestly though he’s even better than guys like Bonamassa.
@@jb_50w78 He is. Paul is a wizard. He can do any style he wants to, at the highest level. He is a master. Blues is all about bends and feelz. Stevie Ray had it. BB King had it. Paul has it too.
Back in the day Saturdays and Sundays were when I could add another 8 hours to music. So in the mornings I'd spend time learning to read and write in standard notation and transcribe violin solos for the guitar or read theory books. This also kept me from playing 16 hours instead of the 8 I normally played each day. Too much can be too much, gotta do other things sometimes, lols (seriously, you can injure yourself though).
although Paul Gilbert isn't "my thing"...i'llbe getting these arpeggios "under my belt".....very classical themes....great lesson....:-) much appreciated by your pupil the "guitar owner".....:-)
Question for you. So you're basically staying in the key of D major, but making the D major chord - the one chord - D minor and then your five would still be the A. Because in the key of D major you have two accidentals - f# and c# sharp. A is the five chord. We're not taking the 6th step of F major, which is D Aeolian?
Hay Brewster, came across a band and I don't even know how I never came across them but there called Dr feel-good, don't know much about them. Check them out,I think you'll like them pre curser to punk. Lost to dj pay ola!
Without Paul we wouldn't have our Lord and savior, Buckethead, and where would we be without Disintegration Mirrors? Dealing with the Ghosts of Broken Eggs that's where.
So happy to see the 3 tone burst Strat back in rotation!
PAUL GILBERT is so influential to this type of playing, among many others - I love PG !!!
Great lesson BREWSTER & thank you!

Woo-Hoo! Plenty of Schenker, Bettencourt and Gilbert. Dave, you are my spirit animal. ;-)
Another reason why I play guitar. Thank you Mr Brewster!
You're that best guitar player buddy that everyone dreams of. Thanks for the great insight and easy to follow format.
This was great! It really simplified and turned the "light on".
This album blew me away in my youth! Awesome lesson 🍺’ski!
Seriously your best lesson yet. Dave, you are a bona fide guitar GOD.
You keep knocking these lessons completely out of the park, thank you David!

There’s something interesting about his genuineness … and PG’s too !!! 😎

Congrats! PG is a fantastic player! Thanks!
I know this is gonna be a great lesson. Thanks for another awesome video, dude.
Another GREAT lesson. Well, what can you expect?? Is Dave Brewster.
Wow great video. What I really get is that I can use the "string" skipped arpeggios as a scale shape for improvising cool licks and sequences!
Dude, I love your insights and your lessons!!! 👍🤘😎
Great lesson, Dave. I've used this a little bit, but your sequencing ideas are definitely newer interesting approaches for me, going to work on that this week. Keep rockin' it, man!

Loved the video. I'd like you to explain the picking pattern (right hand) at least once, though.

I you're work is REALLy inspiring, i wonder if you could do a lesson on Rocky George 's style. from suicidal tendencies era. THANKS AGAIN
Guitar Wizardry. Feeling inspired and defeated simultaneously. 😂
Paul is a total wizard. He's a super nice guy. And now, he dresses like Elvis Costello and he plays blues. Who woulda thunk it.

There goes my Sunday.

That arpeggio is also reminiscent of Wolf Hoffmans playing as well.
Whoa!!! This dude got a haircut!!!🤯
His girl must have told him to get it cut 😉

Nice ! : )
can you do a chordplay for chuck berry?
Great video, be cool if u had some tabs.
I use the string skipping arpeggios a lot. Totally Gilbert inspired. Luckily the punk community doesn’t know who he is.
Yea..
I bookmarked *this* one. lols
Tony MacAlpine Maximum Security Autumn Lords Teach me all you can how to play the hard parts. ;-)
