    Two questions… I noticed the dual transfer switches. with so much room in the bay, do you ever consider upgrading to the Quattro-II which has all that built in? Also, on a system this size would you not ever consider stepping up to 48v batteries to reduce size and weight?

  • @dfiantii64

    How much weight did this add to the rv overall. Especially on the front compartment.

      Thanks for watching. This is definitely a larger and more expensive system. However we do all sorts of jobs, our website has our pricing for packages, but we build custom quotes all the time. Safe travels!

    How much solar do you need to fully run off grid indefinitely

    • @GreatOutdoorsSolar
      @GreatOutdoorsSolar  Рік тому +2

      100% depends on your consumption (how many people, time in rig, things you're powering, etc)

    When you say go offgrid a "long long time" - can you give an estimate? 😉 (a couple of days, a week.... longer???)

    • @GreatOutdoorsSolar
      @GreatOutdoorsSolar  Рік тому +2

      With good weather they will more than likely run out of grey tank space. Atleast that was my experience when living off grid as I traveled. My personal record is 89 days with only needing water and dumping tanks.

      10-15 days is about the right time before you need food, water, etc again. Plus lots of camping is only 14 day stays. So it works out well. Following 60-65F weather really helps. Keeping up with a roof top unit is practically impossible. So going with a mini-split A/C or simply following the weather work great. I've done both ✌️ Happy camping!!!

    How strong and durable are the panels to resist high wind and hail?
    Are they designed to not create drag when going down the road?
    How much do these set ups add to your insurance when on a plan for full time living?
    Thank you.

    • @GreatOutdoorsSolar
      @GreatOutdoorsSolar  Рік тому +2

      Panels hold up very well. I had a friend with a Tiffin need a $35k roof after hail so big it punched holes through the slides and damaged the entire roof. Only place the roof wasn't damaged was where the 4 solar panels were. One panel had a small crack and still worked. After the roof was replaced I added more panels for them to add more protection and power production. The insurance company covered the cracked panel and the labor to replace it as well.
      The panels are not designed for being aerodynamic. However there are lots of things on an RV roof.. like a 36" wide "12" tall A/C for example.. usually 2 or 3 of them. So a 1.5" tall panel doesn't effect much. I personally never noticed a difference.
      Insurance has to do with the value of the item and vary extremely state to state. I tell my clients to notify their insurance they of the cost and that it was permanently and professionally installed. When I added $10k worth of coverage to my 2005 Class C for the "customizations" as they labeled it. It was like a $70 increase per year here in Florida.
      Have a great day.

    I know you wouldn't be able to fit all that kit in the existing solar bay, curious if that bay was gutted to reclaim storage space?

    • @GreatOutdoorsSolar
      @GreatOutdoorsSolar  6 місяців тому +1

      The entire system is clearly shown in the video. The orginal "solar bay" was freed up, but of course.. anytime you add stuff to an area.. you're gonna get less space. -Tom

    I've seen several solar system, the majority with Victron. Is Victron the only option? Why are all in one unit with 5KW battery not being used?

    • @GreatOutdoorsSolar
      @GreatOutdoorsSolar  4 місяці тому +3

      Nobody else offers the networking Victron offers, plus they have well known quality, and they have a 5 years warranty. The typical all in ones don't typically fit well in lots of different RVs, they don't typically have good warrantees, and the price for what you get isn't usually great. We've done over 150+ installs with lots of different brands and learned from experience what the best route was. My very first system in 2017 was AGM batteries and a AIMS inverter for example. -Tom

  • @lindsaywhite4502
    @lindsaywhite4502 Місяць тому +1

    That system although pretty is very weak for a Brinkley.
    Using two converters it should be a 24 volt system. You are also overcharging the customer for the solar controllers, could have went cheaper Victron solar controllers. Using series / parallel connections.
    Those batteries are old chemistry with weak BMS's.
    There are many more more powerful batteries.
    Like for instance, four Epoch 460 amp hour batteries would be a system‼️

    • @GreatOutdoorsSolar
      @GreatOutdoorsSolar  6 місяців тому +2

      Why? A RV is 80% 12v DC powered and with a 24v system.. you need one (or two) 24 to 12v converter.. which tend to be 80-90% efficient. So you're adding inefficiencies by going 24v. A 12v and 24v inverter are 92 or 93% efficient, so not enoguh gain there, same with the MPPT. We've done 12, 24, and 48v systems. Ive also designed ~150+ systems, thanks for taking the time to comment -Tom
