These titles are great. They really do feel like a set of individual songs. (I don't get the title "Combination". For me it really doesn't quite capture the enormity of the sound he is creating for that song, but I'm curious to hear your reasoning for that name.)
I really, really wish you would make an entire album with this instrument. I am utterly fascinated by this piece of macabre art and think a whole album would be a massive hit.
I love how quite a bit of the music made on the Apprehension Engine sounds like Trent Reznor's work. You guys should totally collaborate on a soundtrack for a horror film, or even an album. That would be absolutely amazing
When I first saw Cube back in the day I remember sitting during the end credits and being struck by the genius of your soundtrack. I thought to myself I've never heard anything so rich in atmosphere. So glad to stumble upon this randomly many years later and see my intuition was right and you went on to do things like this. And I think I'll keep getting back to Cube soundtrack forever...
god I have been listening to this for the past hour. My heart rate is up, goosebumps all over my skin and greatest of all, -I'm in the darkness of the night-. great stuff! got me into horror now.
I heard that Jesper Kyd (pretty well known video game composer) used this in the soundtrack of Warhammer End Times Vermintide (particularly the track The Skaven Come to Play) and what a fascinating intrument

I absolutely adore this. I love creepy shit, and this is like... Horror ASMR. This should be a thing. The ingenuity of this machine is just... I adore it. I won't pretend to know all the technical stuff that goes into it, but the WAY it's played is clever as hell.
I am so very glad I have discovered this amazing channel with all of your music and creations! I am currently creating a non commercial unmonitized stop motion film for my UA-cam channel and I was just wondering if I would be able to sample some of the sounds you have created? Fully Credited in the credits of course! Please please answer.
You're Mike Fucking Korven! I just realized, I've been looking for your channel for some time. Huge fan! I would love to hear the Nighmare Machine in person.
+INDIE FILM MAKER Awesome job! I subscribed after hearing the first video! Just curious what processing and recording equipment/software/effects you're using on this. It sounds fantastic!
A little off topic but do you read sheet music. I’m an aspiring composer and I don’t and I wondered if you did and how useful or necessary you think it is in your field of work.
Hi Zachary. I do a lot of horror scores these days, and reading is not really necessary for me at all, because of my chaotic style. That said, I do read, and can orchestrate, etc, and this was very useful to me in my earlier, more melodic days of my career! Good luck.
hey mister Korven, I just saw the lighthouse recently and wanted to thank you for another phenomenal soundtrack! I absolutely adore the sound design of it all. I have a few questions regarding the use of the apprehension engine: when you use it, is there a certain type of music theory or key in mind before it's utilized, or do you apply all that after you've accomplished the type of sound scape with it? a lot of the sounds produced definitely seem atonal, but I know you're a multi instrumentalist, so I'm sure that there's a greater amount of detail at hand that I can't pinpoint.
Hi! Glad you enjoyed The Lighthouse. The apprehension engine is a playground for me, so I essentially turn off the music theory side of my brain. There's probably subliminal stuff going on in my head, but mostly I'm just having fun inventing.
@@indiefilmandmusic Interesting! Another quick question or two, if you don't mind humoring me. The score to The Lighthouse feels very driven by brass, so was that actual brass being played or was it the noise of that special mallet against the wood with certain tweaks to make it sound like brass but unique on its own? and if you were the one that was behind that constant foghorn sound during the movie, how did the creation of that sound come about? I'm a big fan of experimental sound design in music and make music myself, so I'm keen to soak up all the knowledge I can get/ Thanks for your time, sir!
You've managed to create something truly unique and experimental! As a filmmaker, I am curious if you would allow the use of this / sampling the sounds in a non commercial short film?
May I use some of the sound of this machine in my music? I only do non profit stuff and I'm fine with some youtube quality samples. Even tho I would really love to have something like this awesome instrument to do some high quality recordings myself.
@@indiefilmandmusic oh okay, I love the effect it has with the engine...thank you for the quick response... this really gives me more inspiration for a script I'm working on...
so alien tried abducting you but satan remembers you stole that one lollipop from the candy store, as you are ascending to the bright spaceship you notice a ravine forming from the ground under you. You see flames and lava emerge from the ground with a giant red hand reaching out to grab you, instead of grabbing you it grabs the space ship and throws it 100 miles from the current location. You drop down 18 ft and survive, crippled you watch as satan climbs up the ravine and onto the earths surface. You hear what sounds like an airplane but what you actually see was the mothership that controlled the little spaceship. A space capsule launched from the side of the mothership and crash landed right next to you. The door of the space capsule opened and you see a giant green space monster climb out of the capsule. The space monster had green goo pouring from its mouth that almost hit you, satan rushes toward the space monster and a collosal battle happened right before your eyes. All of a sudden you see light coming from the clouds and you try to cover it with your hands to shield your eyes, a sword drops down from the heavens and lands next to you. A note came with the sword saying this, ¨this is the excalibur for i trust you with it to slay the gods in front of you -love god." The second you grab the sword wings of angel sprouted from your back and armor appeared onto your body that was light as a feather, The scene ends with the 2 giants in the background while you are the small body under them ready to become a godslayer.
